    Gennady Golovkin v Ryota Murata

    1 Golovkin
    2 Murata
    3 Murata
    4 Murata
    5 Murata
    6 Golovkin
    7 Golovkin
    8 Golovkin
9 Golovkin drops Murata corner throws in the towel

    76-76 even

So i just caught up on this fight myself, i actually had Murata 4-1 ahead after 5 rounds. I really liked the way Murata was coming forward backing up Golovkin and hurting him to the body. Golovkin seemed bothered by the body shots, and all i was thinking of is what if that was Alvarez hitting him with them body shots.

The turning point for me was the 6th round, Golovkin knocked Murata's mouthpiece out with a hard right hand. And then the fight from that one punch changed the whole momentum of the fight, Murata stopping going to the body for some reason. And Golovkin just started to pick him apart.

Funnily enough when Golovkin was pounding away at Murata in the 9th round, at one point Golovkin looked gassed. And Murata had a brief spell for 10-15 seconds where he started to put the pressure on, but a right hand from Golovkin sent him to the canvas and that was that.

I don't want to see a 3rd Golovkin/Alvarez fight, for me Golovkin has already been unfairly hard done by against Alvarez. I mean Adelaide Bird's 118-110 for Alvarez in the first fight is disgraceful, and a member on here tried to convince me that the 3 judges were "professional". Yeah right if that isn't corrupt scoring i don't know what is.

There just setting up Golovkin, so Alvarez can finally get a convincing win over Golovkin. But the real fans will see past the BS.

    Merqui Sosa vs Tyrone Frazier

    1 Sosa
    2 Sosa
    3 Sosa
    4 Sosa
    5 Frazier
    6 Frazier
    7 Sosa
    8 Sosa
    9 Sosa
    10 Sosa wins by TKO

    88-83 Sosa

This was a pretty entertaining fight Frazier was always the aggressor, and Sosa was the man fighting off the ropes. But surprisingly in this fight it was man fighting off the ropes "Sosa". That was getting the better of action, landing the heavier more cleaner blows. A key weapon was the uppercut for Sosa, as he bloodied Frazier's nose and appeared to have broken it aswell.

The fight was competitive though 6 rounds, but after that it was becoming more and more one sided. Despite Frazier always being the aggressor he was actually taking most of the punishment, and in the final round Frazier's glove touched the canvas with the first knockdown in the fight, and shortly after another barrage from Sosa Joe Cortez rightly stopped the fight.

Overall alot of heart shown by both men, and an entertaining fight worth watching. But Sosa had the better of it despite being on the ropes most of the fight.

Roy Jr, James Toney and Frankie Liles all said Sosa was the hardest puncher they ever faced.

Toney said Sosa hit him high on the head and for three rounds he was seeing triple.

High praise. Man could flat thump.

I checked this out a few months back. Totally enjoyed it. Here is what I wrote:

    Merqui Sosa v Tyrone Frazier

I saw this fight out there and I was hoping it would be a decent fight and it was. A good old-fashioned 10 round club-fight.

    Round 1: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-9 Sosa
    Round 3: 10-9 Sosa
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Frazier
    Round 6: 10-9 Sosa
    Round 7: 10-9 Sosa
    Round 8: 10-9 Sosa
    Round 9: 10-9 Sosa
Round 10: Sosa drops and stops Frazier

Total through 9 completed rounds: 89-84 Sosa (actual scores: 90-83, 88-83 and another 88-83 all for Sosa)

I was never a huge fan of Sosa's. I always thought he was awkward and threw awkward punches, but he was effective here. Frazier, of the Philadelphia Fraziers, did not have Uncle Joe's punch, but I will say he threw an excellent left hook to the body. But Sosa was really chopping away those last couple of rounds with his ungainly punches and did some damage to Frazier's nose before it was quite rightly stopped in the 10th. A memory I've always had of Sosa was when my Dad would come over for the fights and ask who was fighting. I recall telling him Merqui Sosa was fighting and him asking me, "Isn't that the fella with the funny legs?" Yep! That's him. Good times.

Everything about Sosa was awkward. Starting with that knock-kneed stance. I don’t know if that contributed to his power or not but watching him … let’s just say he had a unique approach.

I also remember someone got interviewed on the Howard Stern Show — maybe it was Roy Jr or James Toney, they seem most likely — and mentioned their fight with Sosa and kind of slurred/mumbled the first name.

Howard interrupted and said: “Wait. You fought a guy named ****** Sosa?” It was pretty funny.

EDIT: So the filters don’t like that word. It’s a word for simian. It wasn’t used in any racial context, he just misunderstood the name.

That fight is another good example of how overrated Sosa is as a puncher he hit Frazier with everything (more than 300 punches landed) and couldnt even drop Frazier.

Good puncher but not the murderous puncher some here claim him to be.

    Donald Curry vs Mike McCallum

    1 McCallum
    2 McCallum
    3 Curry
    4 McCallum
    5 McCallum KO

I just watched this fight again because of the discussion about the scoring of this fight in the McCallum vs Duran thread. And i was actually surprised watching it again, i thought Curry was ahead and was out boxing McCallum. Watching it again now it's not quite how i remember it, the fight was evenly fought. I thought McCallum edged a few of the rounds, because he was the busier fighter on the inside and i liked his body work, the one right hand that wobbled McCallum in the 2nd round, for me wasn't enough to win the round. As McCallum was winning the round handily in my book up until last 10 seconds.

Overall for me it was evenly fought up until the KO, not quite as i remember it.

    Merqui Sosa vs Thomas Tate

    1 Sosa
    2 Sosa
    3 Sosa
    4 Tate
    5 Sosa
    6 Tate 10-8 knockdown
    7 Tate 10-8 knockdown
    8 Sosa
    9 Sosa
    10 Tate wins by KO

    85-84 Sosa

Great fight this should of won the FOTY over Ayala vs Tapia 1.

Sosa won a majority of the rounds, because he was the constant aggressor outworking and taking it to Tate all the time, but anytime Tate opened up with a barrage he seemed to hurt Sosa. And the rounds he won were pretty big especially the 4th round, where he came very close to stopping Sosa, and i have to credit the referee for not stopping the fight too early in the 4th round. I thought that was great judgment on his part. And it's pity he wasn't the referee for Jones vs Sosa as we could of seen a longer more entertaining fight.

Despite Sosa being floored twice, i felt like he was starting to really get to Tate in the 9th round. And i felt like that was Sosa's best round of the fight. And it appeared he may of overcome them two knockdowns, and might rally late and maybe stop Tate late on. But credit to Tate for coming out in the 10 round, and finishing the job with a right hand to the temple to flatten Sosa and win by KO

Overall though an amazing fight with a great ending, the fight had so many momentum swings watching it live must of been so exciting.

Indeed it was i don't know if you agree, but for me this was a much better fight than Ayala vs Tapia 1, and it should of won FOTY over that fight.

    Round 1: 10-8 Khan (scores a knockdown)
    Round 2: 10-9 Khan
    Round 3: 10-9 Maidana

Round 5: 10-8 Khan (Maidana is docked a point for use of the elbow)
    Round 6: 10-9 Maidana
    Round 7: 10-9 Maidana
    Round 8: 10-9 Khan
    Round 9: 10-9 Khan
    Round 10: 10-8 Maidana (a battering)

    Wilfredo Vazquez vs Antonio Avelar

    1 Vazquez
    2 Vazquez
    3 Vazquez
    4 Vasquez
    5 Vasquez 10-9 1 knockdown each, best 5th round i've ever seen.
    6 Avelar
    7 Avelar
    8 Avelar wins by TKO

    68-65 Vazquez

Vazquez had the better of it early on in this brutal battle, although the fight was always very competitive in most rounds. But Vazquez would always land the eye catching punches, especially the right hand and i feel like he was edging the rounds based on that.

The 5th round which for me is better than Morales/Barrera 1 5th round, that round was stupidly good and might be in my top 10 best rounds of all time. It seemed like Vazquez got the better of the 5th round, but it also seemed to take more out of him. As the momentum of the fight changed after that, as Avelar was the one now landing the better punches and coming forward. And Vazquez was now dropping his hands moving backwards.

The 8th round Avelar drops Vazquez with a right hand, Vazquez gets up visibly shaken. The referee takes a good look at him, and stops the fight right there and then. At first i thought it was a little premature, but Vazquez didn't complain at all so maybe it was the right stoppage. As i'm not feeling what Vazquez was, and i couldn't see into his eyes like the referee.

    Overall though amazing little battle.
