    Alvarez: 4,5,6,10,ko
    Plant: 1,2,3,7,8,9

The first half of this fight was a fight of two halves. First 3 rounds Plant fought almost entirely single handed, but his feet were quick enough for it to work for him. He danced and jabbed and Canelo got nowhere near him.

The next 3 saw Canelo close the gap and you could be forgiven for thinking he'd turned Mexican pressure fighter, but of course we know that's not how he fights. He walks forward, paws the jab and then counters what comes back at him. So glorious to watch aggressive counter punching.

And you have to wonder if he could have fought this style, would Floyd have still shut him out. Difference there of course is Floyd committed to the straight right, he never danced behind a jab.

Next 3 rounds Plant takes over again. Shoulder rolls brilliantly, countered well with the straight right hand. And at times walked Canelo back against the ropes himself.

Round 10 Canelo closes the distance again and really works the body, Plant is noticeably slowing down. Round 11 the finish is sudden. Canelo catches up to him and smashes him to bits. Great victory. 4 belt unification. Full credit.

Wow, we really differed on this one, Luf. But then again, we're not all in lock-step with one another, which is what makes our views interesting. Here is how I saw it:

Canelo Alvarez v Caleb Plant (unification)

    Round 1: 10-9 Plant
    Round 2: 10-9 Canelo
    Round 3: 10-9 Plant
    Round 4: 10-9 Canelo
    Round 5: 10-9 Canelo
    Round 6: 10-9 Canelo
    Round 7: 10-9 Canelo
    Round 8: 10-9 Canelo
    Round 9: 10-10 Even
    Round 10: 10-9 Canelo
Round 11: Canelo drops Plant twice and stops him.

Total through 10 completed rounds: 98-93 Canelo (actual scores: 96-94, 97-93 and 98-92 all for Canelo)

Plant started out like he was going to fight a cagey fight - and he was - but you also have to fight. I felt he could have showed a bit more aggression out there, but then he was the one sampling Canelo's punches. I thought it was headed towards the one-sided decision, but Canelo showed he is something when he gets a man hurt. The commentators were asking him afterwards if he is going to light heavy. At 5'7 1/2" I think it would be a mistake, but who knows?

Jose Luis Ramirez W12 Terrance Alli

I had to miss this at the time it aired, supporting myself through junior college in '87-'88. I missed a very good and never-discussed bout, with Ramirez winning the WBC belt a second time.

First, I had a dissenting vote; Alli was hard done by here. Ramirez was the WBC's favorite son though, and by then fought for the Acaries brothers of France. This bout was held in St. Tropez, so draw your own conclusion about the influences at work there.

Anyway, I didn't write this down so before I forget.....

    1. Alli
    2. Ramirez
    3. Alli
    4. Alli
    5. Alli
    6. Even
    7. Alli
    8. Alli
    9. Ramirez
    10. Ramirez
    11. Ramirez
    12. Ramirez

115-114 Alli. Alli put it all on the line and I felt did more to earn it but God, it was so close. I can't call this a robbery, not when it's decided only by one point.

Ramirez here in 1987 had slipped a bit since his earlt-80's heyday. He's still stoic and patient and tough and all those things, but he's slower now and can't cut the ring. He's patient to a fault and allows Alli to build a sizable lead though the Guyanan has to work far harder than the Mexican. Alli has no power at all, and has to throw three shots to Ramirez's one to stay relevant.

Round nine is terrific action for three solid minutes, with Ramirez finally showing some initiative, and from there on out Alli unravels at a steady pace. By the twelfth, he's barely able to hang on but he battles courageously. Had there been a 13th it would probably have been the end but as it was his valiant effort went for naught.

@scartissue , @Jel , @George Crowcroft , @Dynamicpuncher , I'd love to see your cards for this. What a good fight this was, and a tough scoring assignment.

Fres Oquendo v David Tua (for Oquendo's NABF title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Tua
    Round 2: 10-10 Even
    Round 3: 10-9 Oquendo
    Round 4: 10-9 Oquendo
    Round 5: 10-10 Even
    Round 6: 10-9 Oquendo
    Round 7: 10-9 Oquendo
    Round 8: 10-9 Oquendo
    Round 9: Tua stops Oquendo

Total: 79-75 Oquendo (actual scores: 78-74, 78-74 and 80-72 all for Oquendo)

This fight along with Tua's bouts with David Izon, Oleg Maskaev and Hasim Rahman were carbon copies of getting out to a fast lead before a desperate Tua finishes late with a marauding flourish. Unlike the Maskaev bout where Oleg used footwork neatly to keep Tua at bay, Oquendo used the ring to his benefit. No less effective. The stoppage was just. See Oquendo's body language along the ropes after the bout is stopped.

Oh my God, you and @lufcrazy disagreed on how a fight was scored but you didn't call each other names or exclaim that the other one DKSAB. Are you sure you're on the right forum? I didn't realize adult behavior was allowed in these situations. Obviously, I am being facetious but it is very nice to see. Good job guys.

Yeah very different scores. Particularly the 7,8,9 rounds which I thought Plant won!

    Thomas Tate v Merqui Sosa

Someone mentioned this fight recently so I thought I’d check it out.

As @scartissue has mentioned about Sosa, he has an awkward style and is awkward to watch as well. He throws punches like he’s in a drunken bar room brawl. They’re not clean and I wouldn’t pay much attention to the punch stats in this fight. Tate may have been officially landing less but his were the cleaner executed punches.

I didn’t keep a scorecard for this but had I done, I’d have had Tate in front on cleaner punching and the KDs. Teddy Atlas had Sosa up, as did one of the judges but I don’t see it.

Still, this was a scrappy fight and despite the drama of the KDs, there wasn’t a lot of quality on display. This felt very much like two fighters, past their best, going to the well one more time and it was Sosa who came up empty, while Tate earned a title shot against Sven Ottke with this win.

Watched a few rounds of this the other night. One or two early ones and the last three. So I can’t share any scoring but JLR was raking him over the coals late (with some very nice exchanges — Alli hung in there pretty good but was getting overwhelmed late).

I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. Much like McCrory-Jones 1, very much a fight of two halves.

    Merqui Sosa vs Thomas Tate

    1 Sosa
    2 Sosa
    3 Sosa
    4 Tate
    5 Sosa
    6 Tate 10-8 knockdown
    7 Tate 10-8 knockdown
    8 Sosa
    9 Sosa
    10 Tate wins by KO

    85-84 Sosa

This is how i had it when i watched this fight last week.

I have to say i do disagree with your analysis slightly, but that's beauty of boxing as we all see it differently. I thought quite clearly that Sosa outworked Tate in a majority of the rounds, and although Tate did win his rounds bigger with the big 4th round and the 2 knockdowns. I still felt Sosa won more rounds being the aggressor and just throwing and landing way more than Tate, it seemed like anytime Tate would open up he would hurt Sosa, but the problem is he wasn't doing it consistently. And he allowed Sosa to outhuslte and outwork him in a majorty of the rounds.

    Cheers, D.

I didn’t score the fight so I can’t vouch for having Tate in front. I think that Tate was more sparing in his output but Sosa’s punches are so sloppy that, in comparison, Tate’s punches seemed more telling (and obviously were in rounds 6, 7 and 10) but I may have had Sosa ahead if I’d done a RBR.

Ultimately, it was a moot point but yeah, it’s possible I could have had Sosa ahead had I scored it.

Jose Luis Ramirez VS Terrence Alli

    1 Ramirez
    2 Ramirez
    3 Alli
    4 Alli
    5 Alli
    6 Alli
    7 Alli
    8 Alli
    9 Ramirez
    10 Ramirez
    11 Ramirez
    12 Ramirez

    114-114 Draw

So watching this fight after it being recommended to me by @salsanchezfan

This fight had atleast 3 momentum swings in my opinion, the first 2 rounds i thought Ramirez clearly won with his hard left hands to the body and head. And i was on my way to giving Ramirez the 3rd round, but then Alli landed about a dozen right hands over and over, and he stole the round with that late barrage for me.

From then on the fight basically turned into Leonard vs Hagler part 2, with the flashier fighter Alli staying on the outside. Outboxing and outhustling the plodding aggressive Southpaw Ramirez.

The fight then once again turned around in round 9, and the fight turned into a war for remaining 4 rounds. With the 9th round being a standout round and the best round of the fight, and the 12th round being the worst round of the fight for Alli. As he was almost dropped and stopped but managed to just hang on and see out the round. I have to admit i was somewhat close to scoring the last round 10-8 for Ramirez, but i didn't feel the round was quite dominant enough for a 10-8 round.

It this fight had been 15 rounds Ramirez certainly would of won by stoppage.

Overall an exciting and intriguing fight with alot of twists and turned, and a few different styles of fighting aswell. Thanks to @salsanchezfan for the recommendation.
