Thanks, Jel. That's great to know about Watson's recovery. Didn't know any of that.

I think it's probably because of what happened in the fight, that people may not want to revisit it and score it even if it is a great fight.

Yeah there are far too many fights I have no interest in revisiting: Mancini-Kim, Pintor-Owens, Benn-McClellan and this one among them.

Well I really didn't have the same issue with this fight because I was aware he not only survived but was walking again. Jel threw in a couple of more facts that I didn't know such as completing the London Marathon and been on chat shows, which is tremendous. But I'm not without emotion either. I have never watched the 3rd Griffith-Paret fight, the Ramos-Moore fight or re-watched the Benn-McClellan fight since its live airing. I just can't do it.

I made a point of watching all but Pintor-Owen. I've seen the KO sequence for that one before, and Owen was gone before he hit the floor. You could tell. It was sickening to watch, and I can't bring myself to watch the whole thing even though I would do it for the same reason I watched the others; to acknowledge the sacrifice, though their families would never know or care that I did it.

Exactly that, D. I watched it back in ‘91 and haven’t been able to rewatch it in full since.

Ken Norton Vs Muhammad Ali 2 (1973) Result split decision in favour of Ali

I scored it 6-5 and 1 round draw the last round Ali edged it a exciting contest with good exchanges

Ken Norton Vs Muhammad Ali 3 (1976) Ali wins unanimously

    5-5 even from round 10

    Round 11 Ali
    Round 12 Norton
    Round 13 Norton
    Round 14 Norton
    Round 15 Ali

To really score this fight properly the first ten rounds require more analysis in my opinion because I felt this may have been reason the judges gave it to Ali because there were a few there that were very close and difficult to score. What's everyone's views on the first ten rounds I may have to re watch it again :bump

    Kevin Kelley v Gregorio Vargas

Very good fight in which Kelly started the stronger and built a lead over the first half before Vargas got going and outmuscled Kelley down the stretch.

This was a close fight and while I don’t have an issue with Kelley winning, I felt 116-111 (as one judge had it) was wider than he deserved.

Regardless, Kelley was an exciting fighter - this fight, along with his fights with Troy Dorsey, Alejandro Gonzalez, Derek Gainer and Naseem Hamed made him, win or lose, the action featherweight of the 90s.

    1 10-9 (close)
    2 10-9
    3 9-10 (close)
    4 10-9 (good round)
    5 9-10 (close)
6 10-9 (very good round; I thought Kelley edged it)
    7 9-10 (cracking round)
    8 10-9
9 8-10 (Vargas puts Kelley down)
    10 9-10 (close)
11 10-9 (close. Kelley needed that round)
    12 9-10 (fantastic final round)

    Kelley 113-114 Vargas

I don't know if it's on YT but one of Kevin Kelley's lesser known/exciting fights, and I forget the fighter he fought. But Kelley was floored twice and dominated throughout the fight, only to comeback and score a KO in 7th or 8th round ? If you ever find that one it's worth a watch.

I can’t remember how I scored it exactly but from memory your card is closer (in total margin and with Larry dominating early) to mine than the judges’ cards were. I thought Larry clearly won.

@Jel this is the Kevin Kelley fight i was on about, i'd recommend watching it if you enjoy watching his fights. Like i said i never see anyone talk about this fight, but this is one of the great comebacks and a very entertaining fight as i remember it.

Pinklon Thomas v Alfonso Ratliff (NJ rounds scoring)

    Round 1: Thomas
    Round 2: Thomas
    Round 3: Thomas
    Round 4: Thomas
    Round 5: Thomas
    Round 6: Ratliff
Round 7: Ratliff (scored for Thomas but docked for thumbing - NJ rules takes round from the offender and gives to the recipient)
    Round 8: Thomas
    Round 9: Thomas
    Round 10: Thomas stops Ratliff

Total through 9 completed rounds: 7-2 Thomas (actual scores unknown)

I wouldn't call this highly competitive, but I was riveted at the same time. Ratliff, when he would let loose, would remind you of a poor man's Cleveland Williams. Pink wasn't much of a counter-puncher, so when Ratliff would let loose, he would just take it. It was a pretty good recipe for victory but Ratliff's attacks were so sparse that Pink just controlled the show. The 6th round, which I scored for Ratliff, sort of felt like a pity round. Man, I wavered over that. An Even round would probably be more accurate. Ratliff began that round bombarding Pink, who offered little in return. Until Ratliff just stopped his attack again and Pink took over with that great equalizer of his, the jab. That jab carried the freight through most of that round (and the fight itself). Again, Ratliff had his moments - Pink was marked up on both of his prominent cheeks by fights end - but Pink really dominated the fight.
