Live on TV, I'm sure in person it would of been wild. But watching the action unfold as it happened was crazy enough, you got yo remember Bowe was before the Golota fights the #1 or 2 guy in the division and Golota had basically came out of nowhere as this possible real player in the division after the first fight. That and the riot that happened before it was a must see type of fight that IMO surpassed the hype.

Officially (in as much as I can make things around here "official") this is the best thread ever over here!

Just rewatched The Fight of the Century.

A good candidate for greatest fight of all time in my estimation. An almost supernatural display of will on the part of both men. Staggering.

Also, Burt Lancaster was a complete natural on the mic wasn't he? He could have continued to call fights in his sleep.

Wallace 'Bud' Smith v Joe 'Old Bones' Brown I (non-title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Brown
    Round 2: 10-9 Brown
    Round 3: 10-9 Brown
    Round 4: 10-9 Brown
    Round 5: 10-9 Smith
    Round 6: 10-10 Even
    Round 7: 10-9 Brown
    Round 8: 10-9 Brown
    Round 9: 10-9 Brown
    Round 10: 10-9 Brown

Total: 99-92 Brown (actual scores: 99-92, 98-92 and 100-88 all for Brown)

Lightweight champ Bud Smith did himself a disservice coming in at 143 1/2. He lacked the pace and pressure he showed in the second Carter fight. Standing back boxing Brown wasn't going to cut it. But when he got aggressive with Brown in the 5th and 6th, attacking him, he performed quite well. But Brown was a revelation here. He was like a lightweight Willie Pep the way he was bouncing in and out, jabbing, pot-shotting and countering. Fantastic performance from Brown.

If someone wants to call it the greatest fight of all time, I don’t think they’d be wrong. It’s probably as close as you could ever get to a consensus choice on something that is so subjective.

There's a few different canidates in my mind, but this one just had everything. Two undefeated ATGs landing almost at will on eachother for 15 of the toughest rounds you could ever hope to see. I remember looking at Ali by round 7 and thinking 'dude, you've got another 8 rounds of this'. Even Frazier, the close but clear winner, looked like a swollen mess by the end.

A fantastic exhibition fight between two hotties, (yes Im transgender but I like women) this fight was everything I could ask for in as far as the two not being seasoned pros and it was a barnburner in an exhibition that actually had a winner. I recommend you watch it!

I think it’s the combination of ingredients that makes it so compelling: both unbeaten, both heavyweight champion claimants (not in the split title way of Fury and Usyk but in the truest sense) set against a backdrop of political unrest with both fighters seeming to represent different sides of the coin, watched by the entire world because it mattered that much. Those were the stakes and the fight itself managed to match them. Listening to the guys on here who were around at the time, you can tell there’s never been a fight quite like it before or since.

Great fight between Whitaker and a very humble man I met in person days after the bout, Luis Ortiz.

Ortiz gave it all and he hit Whitaker with a few good ones, but Whitaker displayed the mastery he was eventually known for in the pros.

    Thanks for that Jel.

I would love to hear the thoughts of those who were lucky enough to be around to witness it in real time.

Oba Carr v Yori Boy Campas

    Round 1: 10-9 Carr
    Round 2: 10-9 Carr
Round 3: 10-8 Carr (scores a dubious knockdown)
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Campas
Round 6: 9-8 Carr (Carr's round but Campas docked a point for elbowing and then Carr himself docked a point for hitting on the break)
    Round 7: 10-9 Carr
    Round 8: 10-9 Carr
Bout stopped between rounds 8 and 9 in favor of Carr due to a heavily swollen right eye by Campas

Total through 8 completed rounds: 78-72 Carr (actual scores not known)

Y'know I always wanted to see this fight and had been looking for it for sometime before finally seeing it out there. This is not Carr at his boxing best. This devolved into an old-fashioned club fight. Less on skill and they got dirty. But Carr's frequent slashing left hook really did a job on Campas' eye. One more thing I should mention is that 3rd round knockdown. I wouldn't have counted this as it was a clear - IMO - push by Carr. But the ref made it official.

I loved Oba as a ‘house fighter’ on USA Network’s Tuesday Night Fights. Felt like we watched him grow up on those regular cards.

Him and a fellow Detroit guy who had an overlapping career, Anthony ‘Baby’ Jones, were two I always looked forward to seeing. Baby and Oba fought to a draw, fittingly, in 1997.
