Oba had bad luck, look who he went against: Felix Trinidad, Ike Quartey and Oscar De La Hoya...he dropped Tito, went 12 with heavy handed Quartey and gave Oscar all he could handle before losing in 11.

Bad luck in that he came along when his weight class was pretty stacked, but also just levels: He wasn’t quite top tier but he was good enough to mix it up with the very best and be competitive.

Mayweather v Castillo I - first time watching in 10+ years and have never scored it.
    10-9 Mayweather
    10-9 (20-18 Mayweather)
    10-9 (30-27 Mayweather)
    10-9 (40-36 Mayweather)
    10-9 close (50-45 Mayweather)
    9-10 (59-55 Mayweather)
    9-10 (68-65 Mayweather)
    9-9 (77-74 Mayweather)
10-9 close (87-84 Mayweather) mayweather punch after the bell should have been a point, no worse than Castillo's on the break in round 8.
    8-10 (95-94 Mayweather)
    10-9 close(105-103 Mayweather)
    9-10 (114-113 Mayweather)

Should have been 113-113 a draw if the additional point deducted from Mayweather.

NB: Watched it again immediately afterwards more closely and the three rounds I thought were close - rounds 5, 9 and 11. Still gave 5 Floyd, 9 is a flip a coin round for me and round 11 to Castillo (a lot of bodywork that didn't seem to bother Floyd and was likely missed by the judges).

In the days of multiple titles/divisions, do you know how rare it is to see an outstanding contender who 'didn't' win a world title? It was very common to talk about great contenders like Kenny Lane, Charley Burley, Tyrone Everett, Armando Muniz, etc., because of only one or maybe two world champs either holding them at bay or like a Burley and Harry Wills, just denied a shot. Today, if you have fair to middlin' skills, there's something wrong with you if you don't have a strap by your 20th fight. The last time I can legitimately say there was an outstanding challenger who didn't win a world title was Oba Carr and David Tua.

Here's the way I scored it.

Jose Luis Castillo v Floyd Mayweather I (lightweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Mayweather
    Round 2: 10-10 Even
    Round 3: 10-9 Mayweather
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Mayweather
    Round 6: 10-9 Castillo
    Round 7: 10-9 Castillo
Round 8: 9-9 Even (Scored it for Castillo but the ref deducted one point from Castillo for hitting on the break)
    Round 9: 10-9 Castillo
Round 10: 10-8 Castillo (the ref deducted one point from Floyd for use of his elbow)
    Round 11: 10-9 Castillo
    Round 12: 10-9 Castillo

    Total: 116-112 Castillo

I really felt Castillo simply exerted his strength over Mayweather throughout the second half of the fight. Pretty solid on my card. I did feel Floyd deserved their second fight, though.

“I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am, let's face it.”
When being a contender was being a somebody.

James Toney vs Prince Charles Williams

    Rounds Won/Even
    Toney - 2,3,4,6,7,9,10,11
    Williams - 1,5
    Even - 8

    Notes
    - Joe Cortez deducts apoint from Toney after he hit Williams after the bell.
    - Toney's left eye began to swell in the 5th Round
    - Toney scores at 12th Round KO with only 30 seconds left.

    My Scorecard
    (T) 108-102 (W)
Winner: Toney by KO in 12

    Review
A good, but scrappy fight fought primarily on the inside. Williams was pressing the action & putting Toney on the ropes, but Toney was picking him a part & landing the more accurate punches. Toney's left eye had a moderate swelling, but he otherwise was in full control of the fight & went on to end it with a stunning 12th Round KO.

    Round 1 10-9 Iriarte
    Round 2 10-9 Iriarte
    Round 3 10-9 Chandler
    Round 4 10-9 Chandler
    Round 5 10-9 Chandler
    Round 6 10-9 Iriarte
    Round 7 10-9 Chandler
    Round 8 10-9 Chandler
Round 9 Chandler wins by tko

Good fight, Iriarte gave Chandler all Iriarte was capable of giving. Chandler's words afterwards diminished the fact he was in for a workout! I had it 77-75, Chandler/

Great flick, but the remake with TV funnyman Bobby Bittman in his first dramatic role was better than Brando’s version.

What was Chandler's best most dominant performance? I've never really been overly impressed myself.

    Fury vs Wilder 1:

    R1: 10-9 Fury
    R2: 10-9 Wilder
    R3: 10-9 Fury
    R4: 10-9 Fury
    R5: 10-9 Fury
    R6: 10-9 Fury
    R7: 10-9 Fury
    R8: 10-9 Fury
    R9: 10-8 Wilder
    R10: 10-9 Fury
    R11: 10-9 Fury
    R12: 10-8 Wilder

    Total: 115-111 for Fury

Still maintain this was a robbery and the 115-111 scorecard for Wilder was down to pure corruption/incompetence.

You should check out his title defense against Gaby Canizales. I had been following Canizales and felt Gaby was going to steamroll Jeff, but Jeff contained him over 15 rounds. I always said I have no idea how Jeff coped with those body shots from Gaby for 15 rounds. No disputing the verdict, it was a sound decision. I also enjoyed his title defenses against Johnny Carter and the rematch with Oscar Muniz (the first fight, which was a non-title 10-rounder with Oscar was also a good fight, although Oscar won).
