Hey buddy. I hope you are keeping well.

In fairness, I've only recently started my Hagler education. He was never a fighter that appealed to me when I first started getting into the sport but I have to admit to being very impressed. He's a lot cuter with his work than I had previously thought, but he didn't mind throwing caution to the wind if that is what the assignment called for. Probably my favourite of the fab four.

He's my first boxing hero, actually. "Marvinhaglerfan" just doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely.

Manny Pacquiao vs Marco Antonio Barrera I

    Rounds Won/Even
    Pacquiao - 2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10
    Barrera - 1
    Even - 8

    Notes
    - The ref called a clear slip from Pacquiao a KD. I gave Barrera the round, but only by a point.
    - Pacquiao scores the first legit KD in the 3rd & dominates the round. 10-8 Pacquiao
    - Barrera is cut above the left eye after an accidental clash of heads.
Barrera goes down in the 11th. His corner thrown in the towel soon after as he takes too much punishment.
    - Pacquiao wins via TKO in the 11th.
    - A point is taken from Barrera for hitting on the break in the 9th. 10-8 Pacquiao
    - I scored it eight rounds to one & one even for Pacquiao at the time of the stoppage.

    Scorecard
    (P)99 - 90(B)
    Winner: Pacquiao via TKO 11

    Review
A dominant performance by Pacquiao from the 2nd round onwards. He systematically broke Barrera down with ease - making an enormous statement to the boxing world that a star was born. Barrera was tough & showed heart (as well as desperation with his fouls) but that was all he showed. An outstanding showcase performance from Pacquiao that entered him into a realm of greatness that we'd witness unfold for years.

Manny Pacquiao vs Marco Antonio Barrera II

    Rounds Won/Even

    Pacquiao - 1,4,6,7,9,10
    Barrera - 2,3,5,8
    Even - 10,12

    Notes
    - After a flurry from Pacquiao in the 11th, Barrera hit Pacquiao on the break causing a point deduction. 10-8.
    - Somewhere in that flurry, Pacquiao cut Barrera on his right eye
    - I had it 6-4-2 to Pacquiao

    Scorecard

    (P)116 - 113(B)
    Winner: Pacquiao via UD

    Review
A slow paced, methodical bout with flashes of action. Pacquiao was busier while still responsible, while Barrera was more patient in playing the counter-puncher. Pacquiao's flurries & activity won him the bout. Barrera fought with a better and more strategic gameplay this time round - but it wasn't enough to get him the win.

Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez III

    Pacquiao - 1,4,6,9,12
    Marquez - 2,5,7,8,10,11
    Even - 3

    Notes
    - Pacquiao is cut above the right eye seemingly from headbutt in the 10th round.
    - I scored it 6-5-1 for Marquez.

    Scorecard
    (M)115-114(P)
    Winner: Marquez
    Actual Winner: Pacquiao via MD

A very thrilling, tactical bout between 2 of the best fighters of their generation. Both guys were tactical in their approach early, but started to let their hands fly by the 4th round. Pacquiao (like the 2 previous fights) was the aggressor, but took a much more disciplined approach. Pacquiao was able to steal rounds & impress the judges when the rounds were fought at a quicker pace & he was able to land quick flurries. However, the fight was fought mostly at a slower pace which favoured Marquez - which is why I think he won the bout. Harold Lederman was extremely biased towards Manny & gave him rounds which he clearly lost (like 8 & 10). Not a robbery, but I think a draw or a Marquez victory is the most reasonable outcome in this fight.

Berrios had his life saved by the referee lol if I were him, whenever Sanchez was in Fajardo, i'd driven to Cabo Rojo (which is like saying Portland, Maine and San Diego, California, but in Puerto Rico)

Eusebio Pedroza v Rocky Lockridge II (featherweight title)

    Round 1: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 3: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 6: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 7: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 8: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 9: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 10: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 11: 10-10 Even
    Round 12: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 13: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 14: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 15: 10-9 Pedroza

Total: 145-143 Pedroza (actual scores: 147-146, 146-145 and 147-142 all for Pedroza)

D, checked this out today and a bit different than the first time I saw it. Back then I thought Lockridge was doing well, but now, pen to paper, I had the same score as their first fight. 145-143 for Pedroza. But man, this was a tight fight to score. And as you said, D, not the greatest film quality. Just a real toughie and I think it would be like this no matter how many times they fought.

    Miguel Cotto vs Shane Mosley

    Rounds Won/Even
    Cotto - 1,4,6,8,11,12
    Mosley - 3,5,7,9,10
    Even - 2

    Notes
    - Mosley's left eye began to swell from the 2nd round
    - A cut is opened on the left eye of Cotto from an accidental headbutt in the 12th.
    - I scored it 6-5-1 for Cotto.

    Scorecard
    (C)115 - 114(M)
    Winner: Cotto via UD

    Review
This was a very good fight with a lot of action. Both guys came to fight and landed big shots that would have slept many others in their division. Cotto was the more accurate puncher, while Mosley was more busy. Cotto's jab & left hook were his best weapons and he landed them frequently, while Mosley's chopping overhand right was a threat throughout the bout, & landed occasionally. There were a lot of close rounds (2,5 & 12 specifically). Ledermen & the judges scorecards were pretty fair (even though I had it a bit closer) as the fight was close, but slightly in Cotto's favour.

Sugar Ray Robinson v Denny Moyer II (NY rounds scoring)

    Round 1: Even
    Round 2: Moyer
    Round 3: Moyer
    Round 4: Robinson
    Round 5: Moyer
    Round 6: Moyer
    Round 7: Even
    Round 8: Moyer
    Round 9: Robinson
    Round 10: Moyer

Total: 6-2-2 Moyer (actual scores: 7-2-1, 7-3 and another 7-3 all for Moyer)

Loved this fight. Tactical as well as getting their hands dirty. Moyer was not awed at all by who he was facing and despite lacking a punch, he remained the aggressor throughout the fight, boxing and roughing up Ray where he could. His shots - although not heavy - were very clean. Sugar Ray, on the other hand, was already 41 and his fast hands could only lash out with a left-right. But that just wasn't enough anymore. A good decision and a good fight.

Rivera is one of my favorite non-champions, too bad he has had bad luck in life.

    Kevin Kelley v Troy Dorsey

It’s back! Someone uploaded this fight on YouTube a week or so ago. I’ve been looking to rewatch it for ages so managed to watch it last night, even though I was dog tired.

Definitely one of the unsung great fights of the 1990s and a contender for FOTY for 1992 in a year that had some great ones, including McKinney-Ncita 1 (my personal choice), Moorer-Cooper and, of course, Holyfield-Bowe 1.

I scored this a draw before but didn’t score it last night but Dorsey can consider himself unlucky not to get something from this fight. He was relentless and it took an impressive rear guard action from Kelley to hold him off, even when he looked like he might be overwhelmed. It Dorsey had a bit more power he might have stopped Kelley.
