Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez I
    Rounds Won/Even
    Pacquiao - 1,2,8,10,12
    Marquez - 3,4,5,6,7,11
    Even - 9

    Notes
    - Pacquiao floors Marquez 3x in the 1st round. I scored it 10-6.
    - Marquez nose is broken/fractured in the 1st round.
    - I scored it 6-5-1 for Marquez, but the 3 KD's has him losing a 2 point margin.

    Scorecard
    (P)114 - 112(M)
    Winner: Pacquiao

    Review
What a great way to kick-off a legendary rivalry. Pacquiao started fast, dropping Marquez 3x in the opening round & dominated him. It looked like it'd be an early night for Pacquiao. However, Marquez had other plans. From the 3rd round he started to time Pacquiao's rhythm, then effectively counter with crisp combinations. He outboxed Pacquiao for most of the bout, while Pacquiao was still dangerous and landing his left hand occasionally. The scorecards were divided, but I would have given Marquez the nod if not for the KD's.

James Scott vs. Bunny Johnson, light heavyweights scheduled for 10 rounds at Rahway state prison in New Jersey on July 1, 1979.

Scott, 14-0-1, is on the rise after beating Eddie Mustafa Muhammad (Gregory at the time) in an HBO-televised prison fight when Muhammad was the No. 1-ranked contender. This fight takes place outdoors at the prison, with prisoners kept behind a wire fence a good many feet away from the ring. He weighs 175 pounds and is ranked No. 5 by the WBA.

Bunny, 52-11-1, is the British light heavyweight champ as well as a former BBBofC and Commonwealth light heavy and heavyweight champ. Johnson, 175 1/2, took the fight on 10 days notice but was reportedly in training for another fight and has George Benton in his corner. He’s the fifth opponent for this date for Scott, with Yaqui Lopez withdrawing with a training injury and Vonzell Johnson, Jesse Burnett and Gary Summerhays all pulling out for various reasons.

As noted below, some rounds are incomplete but doesn’t seem like we missed anything that would change any of my scoring given how officials scored it. I knew this fight was out there but it had been missing from the internet for a while … I’ve searched for it randomly and it showed up on YouTube so I decided to watch/score it.

Scoring on the New Jersey rounds system (five-point must supplemental in case of a draw):

    1. Scott — James finds a home for his left hook early and often, also working behind a strong jab but not displaying his trademark body attack yet.

    2. Scott — And here comes the blistering body assault. You can hear them landing with a thud. Ouch.

    3. Scott —More of the same. Bunny times him with a couple of clean rights but Scott is just inevitable here as he works non-stop and every punch thrown with ill intent.

    4. Scott — I’d have scored this 5-3. Early on, Bunny puts Scott on the ropes after landing a good hook, but James storms back and absolutely batters him for the final 2 minutes of the round. Johnson is bleeding in his mouth by the end.

    5. Scott — A minute of this round is missing, but it seems to be more of the same.

    6. Scott — James boxes more at a distance but outworks Johnson.

    7. Scott — Half this round is missing, but James really beats Bunny up late in the round and is doing serious damage.

Johnson quits on his stool between rounds.

My score: 7-0. Official scores 6-0-1 twice and 7-0.

    Floyd Mayweather vs Philip Ndou

    Rounds Won/Even
    Mayweather - 1,3,4,5,6
    Ndou - 2
    Even - /

    Notes
    - Floyd wins via TKO in 7.
    - I had Floyd ahead by 4 points at the time of the stoppage.

    Scorecard
    (M)59-55(N)
    Winner: Mayweather via TKO7

    Review
An excellent, action-packed fight from start to finish. Mayweather showed an awesome offensive display (an area he gets severely overlooked in) - putting on a masterclass performance. Ndou was tough as nails - showing tremendous courage & will to win throughout the bout. He made Mayweather work and fight at a faster pace than usual. However, that still turned out in Floyd's favour.

    Chan-Hee Park TKO2 Guty Espades

    A nice short firefight.

First time I’d ever actually watched this.

Park down early from a solid left hook which silenced the crowd but roars back to drop Espades twice himself in a wild first round.

2nd round Espades stalking and working the body, Park doing a better job of keeping the fight on the outside where he does his best work. Park then rocks Guty Sr with a right and drops him face first with a wicked left hook. Fight probably got waved a bit early but down 3 times in 4 or so mins Guty couldn’t complain to much.

Park had astonishing couple of wins in a short career. He was really was a talented and clever boxer. Must have lacked the internal fortitude to keep at it after losing to Oguma.

Sal, I've been wanting to give this one a go for some time (when I think about it, probably 40 years). I saw Murata's challenge against Pintor and loved it so one can't go wrong against Jeff. Right? Wrong!!! What a horrible fight. Outside of the 1st round where Jeff got rocked, it was a mess of clinching, mauling and tugging. After pushing myself to the 11th round, "I could takes no more!" and suspended it right there. Not ready to give up though. I will check out II and III. It has to be better!!!

I had Pac winning a close decision, but Bradley was doing good work for much of the contest that wasn't being acknowledged by the announcers-or apparently by a number of fans.

He was landing consistently to the body and with the jab, and nullifying a lot of Pac's incoming. Plus, Bradley was rolling a lot of shots, so a lot of the work that Pac appreared to do he didn't actually do. And, as has already been established, a lot of Bradley's punches were completely ignored by observers during the course of the contest.

There were multiple where Bradley controlled about two minutes of the frame, and then Pac would come back, mount a reasonably (though never completely) effective attack. On my card, that would swing the round ever so slightly in his direction but honestly there were really only a couple of rounds where Pac was truly dominant. Pity that he didn't bother to capitalize on that dominance. Instead, he simply coasted and allowed Bradly to outwork him and outhustle him to make the vast majority of rounds far closer than they needed to be.

John Tate v Roy 'Cookie' Wallace

I saw this fight out there and I had never seen it before. Ergo, a must-watch as I've always liked Big John. At this stage of the game Tate was somewhat of an arm-puncher, like a '70s version of Bob Baker. Sharp combination puncher but no real snap on them. Coming off this fight, had you told me he would stop Bobick in one round a few months later, I would have been stunned. In the few months between, they really taught him to set down on his punches. As for this fight, I won't run a card, Tate won every round from the tough Cookie for an 80-72 score going into the 9th where Tate finally stopped Cookie, but still could not drop him. Like I said, within a few months they really sharpened John.

A little trivia here as well. The referee Mark Tessman had something individual in common with both fighters. With Cookie, they had both been KO'd by Bob Foster and with Tate, they had both beaten Cookie Wallace, of all people.

    Adrien Broner vs Paulie Malignaggi
    Rounds Won/Even
    Broner - 3,5,6,7,9,12
    Malignaggi - 1,2,8,10,11
    Even - 4

    Notes
    - I scored it 6-5-1 (115-114)for Broner

    Scorecard
    (B)115 - 114(M)
    Winner: Broner

    Review
A pretty good & funny scrap for the 147lb WBA title. Paulie was very active throwing a lot of punches, but Broner was more accurate & landed the harder shots. It was funny seeing whenever Paulie would throw a combination of pitter-pat punches, people in the crowd were laughing (even women). Paulie tried his hardest, but his best punch couldn't crack an egg. Broner started to walk him down after 4th round and landed sharp counters & lead rights. The only setback for Broner was that he wouldn't let his hands go enough (a problem that still plagues him today). That's probably why one of the judges gave it to Paulie. However, he did enough to earn the victory

Round 1; Hopkins, he was more active and his offense was better, landed a good clean right middle round, he was also really slick and didn't let Wright hit him with anything that could win him the round

Round 2; Wright, this round felt close but I'd still give it to Wright, landed more and felt more in control than Hopkins

Round 3; Hopkins, Hopkins was pretty dirty this round but since reff didn't take a point of I'll give the round to him, he also landed some good shots in this round

Round 4; Wright, landed better, was in control the whole round

Round 5; Wright, Hopkins was better in this round than he was in the 4th but Wright blocked everything correctly and came back with some good punches

Round 6; Hopkins, he colroled the clinch and threw some good combos

Round 7; Hopkins, a close round, but I think that Hopkins got better of the excanges, he was also slick evading a lot of punches from Wright but Wright himself landed a lot of good shots, this round could've went either way

Round 8; Wright, felt like a smarter agressor this round

Round 9; Hopkins, this fight is too hard to score, giving it to Hopkins regardless

Round 10; Wright, I think he landed more cleanly than Hopkinks, pretty even as litteraly every other round

Round 11; Hopkins, covered effectively, was slick and landed some threw some good shots

Round 12; Hopkins, he really went at this this round with activity and fast paced movement

115 - 113 in favour of Hopkins, this one was tough to score, I can picture Wright winning as well, or at least ending the fight as a draw, I think that the official judges gave too much of an edge to Hopkins

I’ve been trying for some time to find James Scott vs. Ennio Cometti, the Italian light heavyweight champ. I feel certain that I saw this fight on NBC of a weekend afternoon, but the mind sometimes plays tricks on us. It is nowhere to be found as near as I can tell.

I don’t think it was particularly competitive, but apart from most of the rounds of the Richie Kates fight (I think it’s 1, 2 and 10 that are out there) it would be the only televised Scott fights of which I’m aware out there that aren’t readily available. I found the Bunny Johnson fight (scored above) after it seemed to disappear from the internet for quite a while and I’m hoping someday that the full Kates fight and Cometti may yet appear.

Agreed this wasn't the 119-109 type fight that Lederman and Dan Rafael thought it was

Pacquiao certainly took his foot off the gas in the second half especially 9-12.
