Total dominance by Arguello and total courage by Watt.

I had it 149-135, Arguello. Watt went down in the seventh.

    Good fight!

its easy to forget now that at one point, Alexis Arguello and not a certain boxer form Panama was considered the best current fighter from Central America!!

Not a fight, but it has Carlos Palomino, Alexis Arguello, Danny Lopez, Ruben Castillo, Mando Muniz and former judge Lou Tabat.

And I had to fight to stay awake!

Edit: I guess its age restricted because its an action film?

Interesting fight between two highly skilled boxers, one a Hall of Famer.

I had never seen this bout before. I had read on Ring: Boxing in the 20th Century book that it was a highly controversial ending.

My take is: I had Muniz ahead but not by much, 115-113. The controversy to me more than anything was that he was coming on at the moment of the stoppage and he would have probably stopped Napoles in rounds 13 to 15, and in fact it could have been stopped in his favor in round ten.

As far as the scoring, I think it could have gone either way.

    I feel bad for Mando.

Zab Judah v Reggie Green (jr. welterweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Judah
    Round 2: 10-9 Judah
    Round 3: 10-9 Green
    Round 4: 10-9 Judah
    Round 5: 10-10 Even
    Round 6: 10-9 Judah
    Round 7: 10-9 Green
    Round 8: 10-9 Judah
    Round 9: 10-9 Judah
Round 10: Judah drops Green twice before it is stopped

Total through 9 completed rounds: 88-84 Judah (actual scores: 88-83, 86-85 and 87-84 all for Judah)

After watching Reggie Green recently I wanted to see another bout of his and alighted on his title challenge. This bout is not must-see by any means but I wanted to check it out. Judah fights with a sort of Gavilan-ish style but lacking the flamboyance and excitement. By that I mean lacking the big punch but his sharp assortment garners results. Green stuck to his plan, which was obviously setting Zab up for that lead right to the southpaw stance. He did experience some success, but Zab took over as he pleased. One thing to note was the old school orders from Arthur Mercante to "Come on guys, mix it up!" I rarely see that anymore. The refs of bygone days would act on the behalf of the promoter/audience to draw a fight from the contestants. They never forgot that it was the punters filling the seats that were expected to be entertained. Today the refs seem content to allow 2 fighters to waltz through 10 rounds of booing because they don't wish to offend or upset the fighters plans. I know I'm adding a bit of hyperbole to that but that's how it seems to me anyhow.

John Conteh v Chris Finnegan II (British, Commonwealth & Euro light heavyweight titles)

    Round 1: Even
    Round 2: Finnegan
    Round 3: Even
    Round 4: Conteh
    Round 5: Conteh
Round 6: Finnegan stopped on cuts

Total through 5 completed rounds: 49 1/2 - 49 for Conteh on British scoring (actual score not known)

I had seen their first fight and saw this out there and needed a good look see. Finnegan's herky-jerk southpaw style caused Conteh some problems here. In fact, it reminded me of the first time I fought a southpaw and could do nothing with my opponent until i took the bull by the horns and just started slinging punches on the inside. The only solution I could come up with to negate being hit with the southpaw jab. In Chris' case, he was hitting Conteh with a good assortment of combos as well until Conteh really started banging on the inside in the 4th. Whether it was head or punches involved, Chris was cut to pieces over both eyes when it was called in the 6th. The crowd booed, which the announcer deemed was due to head use. I felt it might have been because Conteh kept hitting Chris as he was turning away. I don't know. Perhaps anyone here closer to the situation can shed some light on the subject of the crowd. But a decent contest while it lasted.

Action packed fight here between Danny Lopez and Art Hafey! Thought Lopez won every round except round 1, zero clinching at all!

Will definitely have to look into this Hafey more as he seemed like an exciting little guy for sure.

A nip and tuck affair with lots of hard punches landed.

    I had Thomas ahead 115-112.

Moggy, checked this out twice in my lifetime. When it happened (on tape delay) and again a few months back. This is what I wrote:

    Danny Lopez v Art Hafey

    Round 1: 10-10 Even (1st minute missing)
    Round 2: 10-9 Lopez
    Round 3: 10-9 Lopez
    Round 4: 10-9 Lopez
    Round 5: 10-9 Lopez
    Round 6: 10-8 Lopez (scores a knockdown)
Round 7: Referee stops contest mid-way through the round

Total through 6 completed rounds: 60-54 Lopez (actual scores not known)

Man, this fight takes me back. Never knew it was out there. This is what I loved about west coast boxing. They were never afraid to make matches with other hot prospects and everyone was rewarded for it. The fighters, the promoters and mostly the fans. I remember when I first watched this back in '76. I had already heard the result, which I was not expecting (I thought it would be a knock-down-drag-out fight, not a dominated fight) and it was as reported. Although Hafey did land some bombs on Lopez, Danny really controlled the action. Great seeing this again.

Danny on the way up was fighting at the Olympic or Forum against the likes of (then 13-0) Arturo Pineda, Bobby Chacon, young Sean O’Grady, Shig Fukuyama, Chucho Castillo (albeit a declining version), Ruben Olivares … damn, those were the days!

    Terence Crawford vs Israil Madrimov

    1 Even
    2 Crawford
    3 Madrimov
    4 Crawford
    5 Madrimov
    6 Crawford
    7 Crawford
    8 Madrimov
    9 Madrimov
    10 Crawford
    11 Crawford
    12 Crawford

    116-113 Crawford

The fight was up for grabs after 9 rounds but Crawford won the last 3 rounds for me the last 2 especially were very decisive IMO to earn Crawford the nod.

Intriguing fight but quite dull aswell Madrimov was coming forward but didn't throw enough punches, i felt like there was too most wasted movement and feints without enough punching to be quite frank.

Crawford himself wasn't a whirling dervish either but i felt he stole some rounds with his jab and eye catching body punches, and as i alluded to earlier the last 3 rounds were the key and that's what won Crawford the fight.

Not alot in it a very nip and tuck kind of fight but the later rounds won it for Crawford.

Cleveland Williams bloodied Sonny Liston's nose in round one, then Sonny said "I gotta hurry up", stepped up his game and stoppd WIlliams in round three.

When I was 12, i had a good friend, William, (we are still friend s on Facebook we almost talk every day) and I thought he resembled Williams lol.
