    The magnificent Joe Brown..

And did you notice at the end they said they were going to have a fight between 22 bout veteran Johnny Palmer and a 1 fight "veteran"? ...geez, no wonder so many fighters died back in the day!

Myung Woo Yuh v Leo Gamez II (jr. flyweight title)

    Round 1: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-9 Yuh
    Round 3: 10-9 Yuh
    Round 4: 10-9 Yuh
    Round 5: 10-9 Yuh
    Round 6: 10-9 Yuh
    Round 7: 10-9 Yuh
    Round 8: 10-9 Gamez
    Round 9: 10-9 Even
    Round 10: 10-9 Even
    Round 11: 10-9 Gamez
    Round 12: 10-9 Yuh

Total: 118-113 Yuh (actual scores: 118-112, 117-111 and 116-112 all for Yuh)

This was fought at a brilliant pace for the first 7 rounds with them neck and neck except for the fact that Yuh's power was taking the rounds, but really fought very tightly until the 8th when it became a bit mauling from there on when it appeared that Yuh tired a bit and Gamez picked it up during the infighting. In contrast to their first fight - where I was very impressed with Gamez' footwork - Leo fought an inside fight this time rather than his in and out type of strategy from the first time around. I scored their first fight a draw, but with him fighting Yuh's kind of a fight, he did himself no favors this time. I won't say a good fight. I enjoyed it for the first 7, but like I said, from the 8th on it was a bit mauling.

    Oba Carr v Alfred Ankamah

Have to admit that Oba Carr fights are a guilty pleasure of mine. Loved his speedy, sharp combos. Here he fought Alfred Ankamah, who fought out of California under the guidance of Randy Shields. Ankamah was the big banger here and he really could only hope to catch Carr throughout the fight with one big shot, while getting pelted with every combo Carr could muster. Not a great fight but gave me a chance to see Carr in action again. Won't run a card here as I gave Ankamah only the 4th round with the rest to Carr for a score of 99-91 (actual scores: 99-91, 100-90 and 98-92 all for Carr). Again, nothing I would recommend here for excitement.

I felt like we got to watch Oba grow up before our eyes on USA Network’s Tuesday Night Fights. I became very invested in following his career and rooting for him.

He was always pleasing to the eye and turned out to be grittier than I originally thought. Class fighter.

When I find time, I want to revisit his fight with Baby Jones (I presume it’s available on YouTube). I liked Anthony equally and that they fought to a draw was somehow fitting and satisfying.

Myung Woo Yuh v Oh Kong Son

    Round 1: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-7 Yuh (scores 2 standing 8-counts)
    Round 3: 10-9 Yuh
    Round 4: 10-9 Yuh
    Round 5: 10-9 Yuh
    Round 6: 10-9 Yuh
Round 7: Yuh drops and stops Son

Total through 6 completed rounds: 60-53 Yuh (actual cards not known)

Wow! If you guys are in the mood for phone-booth warfare, then go no further. I don't know if you guys already knew about this fight or if I'm just slow in getting to it, but these two went at it hammer and tong. This was Yuh's last bout before he challenged Joey Olivo for the title and it was a good opponent in the 19-1 Son. Son was a face-first slugger who threw wide arcing shots, whereas Yuh's were more precise and straight up the middle. Son came back after that disastrous but exciting 2nd round to give as good as he got in rounds 4, 5 and 6. The facial damage these two were inflicting was harsh but far moreso on Son. I thought the fight would be stopped on the facial damage alone but it was a final left hook to the liver that done Son in. Great fight and check it out if you can. Film quality was also excellent for a 40 year old fight.

@roughdiamond and @George Crowcroft , just checked the history on this fight and both you guys had already checked it out, which I'm not surprised at. I see you both enjoyed it as I did.
