Marvin Hagler vs Roberto Duràn(Undisputed Middleweight Championship, first 12 rounds)
    Rounds 1-4: Duràn 40-36
    Rounds 5-6: Marvin 68-66
    Round 7: Duràn 78-75
    Round 8: draw 88-85
    Round 9: Marvin 97-95
Round 10: Marvin 105-105(Duràn low blows a ton.)
    Rounds 11-12: Duràn 125-123
Overall review:close fight, and before you guys scream that I'm a dumb, big Duràn fan that's biased,I already thought about the shot counts and such, also while I still love him,I'm not really that much of a big fan of Duràn anymore,I still accepted this man prob loses to Paz in the first fight and loses to Robbie despite a close decision, but this fight... Duràn did good on a 12 rounder.

Definitely the right call here. Jerry must have still been woozy enough not to pick up the count and beat it.

But it reminds me of a ref from my area way back in the day named Henry Brown. If you’ve watched enough boxing, you’ve seen cases of guys taking the countout and jumping back up right after the 10 and argue — I’m not talking about Quarry here as this is legit, but sometimes a guy is surrendering but wants to keep some dignity and act like he got robbed, takes the easy way out but thinks he can save face by saying ‘you know I beat that count, the ref cheated me.’ Seen it I can’t count how many times, from the club level all the way to championship fights.

Well, when Henry had a sense that a guy was not hurt — or not that badly hurt — but was poising himself to get up just in time to get counted out to pull this act, he would go 7 … 8 … 9 … … and hesitate just a bit before giving the 10th count. Sure enough, a guy would jump up on the cadence of when he thought he’d just miss the 10 and Henry would wipe his gloves and wave them to continue on, haha. Sometimes the guy would give him a stare, sometimes he’d find a way out soon after … and sometimes he’d kind of shrug and hunker down and start fighting and at least go the distance, haha.

Pernell Whitaker vs Wilfredo Rivera 2

    1 Whitaker
    2 Rivera
    3 Even
    4 Rivera
    5 Rivera 10-8 knockdown
6 Whitaker 10-7 a knockdown and point deduction
    7 Whitaker
    8 Whitaker
    9 Whitaker
    10 Whitaker
    11 Rivera
    12 Whitaker

    115-111 Whitaker

@scartissue i caught up on the 2nd fight and this is how i had it.

The difference in this fight is Whitaker was punching which much more intent this time, and was able to stun Rivera a few times and land eye catching straight left hands which ultimately won him the fight based on the cleaner hard shots.

Rivera was still very game and gave Whitaker another competitive fight and had some good success landing to the body. Aswell as giving Whitaker some problems yet again with his awkward style and workrate.

But i don't think there was any doubt this time around regarding who won the fight and in my eyes Whitaker clearly won but it was still a hard nights work for him.

Before i finish this write up i would like to talk about rounds 5 and 6, so the 5th round a knockdown was ruled against Whitaker that was clearly a slip. And i was on the verge of scoring it a 10-9 round like Larry Merchant but i thought Rivera may of shaded the round anyway so i just scored it 10-8.

The 6th round Whitaker did score a legit knockdown with a good counter straight left hand, and Rivera also had a point deducted for low blows which was fair since he had been warned previously. What is strange though is that after Whitaker knocked down Rivera and went after him. It appeared to me Whitaker walked into a counter shot and was legitimately knocked down but no one seemed to take much notice of it strangely enough not even a replay of it.

Not that it made much of difference anyway as Rivera already got a free 2 point round that he didn't deserve. But i guess the 6th round technically could've been scored 8-7 ? if the knockdown had counted in the 6th round if i'm correct on this ?

I reckon I could rescore it and come up with a different outcome or RBR at least - I was quite tired when I was scoring it so don’t feel that confident in my card.

I watched the beterbiev versus bivol fight on my phone while at an event so I couldn't properly score it. From about round 8 on I was able to watch it closer and felt like beterbiev got the better of the closing rounds sweeping 10-12

Even when bivol was doing better I felt like his work was slightly less effective and that Artur had the harder punches so he could get hit with a flurry and undo it with one power punch I just felt his punches were so much more effective that it edged him out in closer rounds but I want to rewatch The Fight on the TV without distractions and see what I think

I took a long sabbatical from boxing. The sport isn't the same anymore to me now that it's barely on TV. And while it's great that it is a global sport and arguably #2 or 3 in popularity behind association football, I dont remember the names of many champions or former champions except Alvarez, Garcia, Usik, Berteviev, Bivol, Joshua and Gervonta Davis. I cannot remember many Russian or Ukrainian last names.

Plus my work on the porn page keeps me busy too.

That said, this was a good fight, Martin was a good fighter but just out of his dept. I had Qawi ahead, 50-43. It could have been stopped in the second.

D, we couldn't have seen this fight clearer. Even down to the controversial knockdowns. This is what I wrote when scoring it:

Pernell Whitaker v Wilfredo Rivera II

    Round 1: 10-9 Whitaker
    Round 2: 10-9 Rivera
    Round 3: 10-10 Even
    Round 4: 10-9 Rivera
Round 5: 10-8 Rivera (scores a knockdown. It's a BS knockdown. Whitaker tripped over Rivera's left foot, but it counts)
Round 6: 10-7 Whitaker (scores a knockdown and Rivera loses a point for a low blow - also Rivera scores a KD but it's ruled a slip)
    Round 7: 10-10 Even
    Round 8: 10-9 Whitaker
    Round 9: 10-10 Even
    Round 10: 10-9 Whitaker
    Round 11: 10-9 Rivera
    Round 12: 10-9 Whitaker

Total: 115-113 Whitaker (actual scores: 115-113, 115-111 and 113-112 all for Whitaker)

It at times was going decent but also bogged down with sloppiness and clinching. But I should mention about rounds 5 & 6. Ref Santore ruled a KD on Whitaker but one could see that Whitaker tripped over Rivera's left boot. He had no place to go but down. The announcing team really missed this thinking it was a slip or legit. But round 6 was really whacky. Whitaker scores a solid KD and the ref compounds it by deducting a point from Rivera. But hold on a second. Rivera then has his back to the ropes and lashes out with a beauty of a straight left and down goes Whitaker. As solid a knockdown as one could see, but the ref rules it a slip. He misses it, Lampley, Merchant, Foreman and Harold misses it and the only replays from the HBO truck is Whitaker's knockdown of Rivera. Oh, well, the KD in the 5th was BS so I guess this is payback for a bad call. But if anyone wants to check it out you'll see what I mean.

FT, this is how I had it and what I wrote:

Sot Chitalada v Jung Koo Chang II

    Round 1: 10-9 Sot
    Round 2: 10-9 Sot
    Round 3: 10-9 Chang
    Round 4: 10-9 Sot
    Round 5: 10-9 Sot
    Round 6: 10-10 Even
    Round 7: 10-9 Sot
    Round 8: 10-9 Chang
    Round 9: 10-9 Sot
    Round 10: 10-9 Sot
    Round 11: 10-9 Chang
Round 12: 9-9 Even (scored it for Sot but was deducted one point for throwing Chang to the canvas)

Total: 116-112 Sot (actual scores: 115-114 and 114-113 both for Sot and a 114-114 Draw for a majority win for Sot Chitalada)

Some observations first. 1) Clearly this is a Korean production because the announcers and crowd screamed at everything Chang did and between rounds would only show highlights of Chang. 2) Carlos Padilla never ceases to amaze me with his ineptness. This is why he is my least favorite referee of all time. Not one word to Chang for his 12 rounds of grappling, yet, several cautions to Sot throughout and when he is trying to free himself in the 12th round of Chang's squid-like tentacles and Chang falls to the canvas, it costs Sot a point. 3) I checked a bit of our history on this fight and actually found a few that scored this for Chang. Maybe Chang's style just doesn't gel with me.

As for the fight, Sot amazed me because he went through his entire career cutting gobs of weight for a fight. His trainer Charles Atkinson said he would walk around at 135 and be able to trim down to 114, but that last 2 pounds was murder because he had nowhere to lose it. Yet, he was as strong as an ox on the inside. I like the way he would pick his shots since he wasn't going to match Chang's workrate and thump the body when Chang would grapple. I was very solid on my scorecard, so I am a bit surprised there was any controversy on it. However, like I said before, maybe Chang's style doesn't gel with me.
