Roberto Duràn vs Robbie Sims(Middleweight Bout)
    Round 1: Duràn 10-9
    Round 2: draw 20-19
    Round 3: Sims 29-29
    Round 4: Duràn 39-38
    Round 5: draw 49-48
    Round 6: Duràn 59-57
    Round 7: Duràn 69-66
    Round 8: Sims 77-76
    Round 9: draw 87-86
    Round 10: Sims 96-96
Opinion:I thought Duràn had a good lead here and could've win had if he didn't low blow a ton,I remember what scartissue said that low blows definitely could happen much inside the pocket so well..I don't have many issue,I don't complain for those thinking Robbie won or Duràn won, both fighters did very good here and showed good sportsmanship, Duràn was graceful for this loss and Sims wholeheartedly accepts the split decision, also giving shouts to Duràn for being a tuff lil squirt.

Carlos Palomino vs Armando Muniz 1

    1 Muniz 10-8 knockdown
    2 Muniz
    3 Muniz
    4 Muniz
    5 Palomino
    6 Palomino
    7 Palomino
    8 Palomino
    9 Palomino
    10 Muniz
    11 Muniz
    12 Palomino
    13 Palomino
    14 Palomino
    15 Palomino wins by TKO

    133-132 Palomino

Great battle this a classic Welterweight fight that isn't talked about enough, i feel for Muniz he's had some great performances and came up short so many times it's a crime he never won any world title.

Muniz got off to a great start scoring a flash knockdown in the 1st round a left hook and his aggression seemed to trouble Palomino who got stunned a few times early on and couldn't get off with his punches. But as we all know Palomino is a bit of a slow starter and despite losing the first 4 rounds i thought Palomino started to change the momentum by the 5th round as he started landing the more eye catching punches for me. And whilst Muniz remained competitive and won some rounds in the 2nd half of the fight, i do feel like Palomino was clearly the better man in the 2nd half of the fight outboxing Muniz landing the better punches and in the last few rounds you could see Muniz was starting to fade.

Sensing the fight was down to the wire Palomino came out very strongly in the last round dropping Muniz heavily who had nothing left. To Muniz's credit he managed to get up but he took more punishment and the referee made a good call stopping the fight and Palomino won by TKO with 30 seconds left in the fight.

Before i finish this write up i would like to bring up the judges scorecards they all had pretty reasonable scorecards IMO one judge had it 133-132 to Muniz, 2nd judge had it 133-133, and the final judge it 135-133. All in all it was a very close fight going into the 15th round and Palomino definitely needed a strong finish and he certainly delivered saving his title in a fight he could've lost on the scorecards.

Great fight but De La Hoya was just too much. I had him by 40-35.

    Gatti again very courageous.

Hi D, I scored this one a couple of years back and had it similarly close and thought the judges’ scorecards were all reasonable too. Definitely a title-saving final round from Palomino.

Carlos Palomino v Armando Muniz 1

1 8-10 (technically a two point round but didn’t look like a legit KD)
    2 9-10
    3 10-9
    4 9-10
    5 9-10
    6 10-9
    7 9-10 (good action)
    8 10-9
    9 10-9
    10 9-10
    11 9-10
    12 10-9 (close)
    13 10-9 (close)
    14 10-9
    (132-133)
    15 Palomino TKO Muniz

Russell, scored this previously. Fantastic! Here is what i wrote:

    Ramos v Ramos

California scoring in effect. 1 point for a winner of the round, an additional point if a knockdown is scored and no points for an even round.

    Round 1: Mando
    Round 2: Mando
    Round 3: Even
    Round 4: Sugar
    Round 5: Mando
    Round 6: Mando
    Round 7: Sugar
    Round 8: Sugar
    Round 9: Sugar
    Round 10: Mando

Total: 5-4 Mando Ramos (actual scores: 5-4 Mando, 5-4 Sugar and 6-5 for Mando - that last score was by Dick Young and how it was announced from the ring by Jimmy Lennon and reported in the papers. somewhere along the line boxrec now has it as 7-6 for Mando - I don't know how that got into the mix)

From rounds 3 to the end there is only minimal commentary due to the west coast TV station having to switch to the news and they would comment only sporadically. Love this war!

Russell, checked this out today on your recommendation. You didn't steer us wrong. Never knew this was out there. Here we go...

Bazooka Limon v Chung Il Choi (jr. lightweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Choi
    Round 2: 10-9 Choi
    Round 3: 10-9 Choi
    Round 4: 10-9 Choi
    Round 5: 10-10 Even
    Round 6: 10-9 Choi
Round 7: Limon drops Choi twice with body shots and Richard Steele intervenes with Limon all over Choi

Total through 6 completed rounds: 60-55 Choi (actual scores: 60-55. 60-55 and 60-54 all for Choi)

Brilliant little game plan from Choi's team and he enacted it perfectly, keeping the southpaw Limon at bay with lead rights and followup combos, while never staying put for any amount of time. Things changed in the 6th when an accidental butt-induced cut appeared high in Limon's scalp and the blood was running freely. The urgency was apparent and Limon went at it hard in the 7th and took Choi out with body shots. I'm sure there was a sigh of relief from Limon's camp as they were looking at a big money match with Boza Edwards after this. But let's look at Choi for a moment. I know I gripe about the politics of the day and deserving challengers and what not, but Choi had talent and was simply in too much of a hurry. Only one fight of his went the distance and had not even fought for Korean title, let alone an OPBF. He had 3 recognizable names on his record in Rod Sequenan, Rey Tam and Nene Jun, but they were journeyman-ish. He didn't deserve this title shot, nor did he deserve his first shot at Rolando Navarette. He needed experience at this level. And if anyone thinks I'm being harsh on him, this was his last fight. And he retired with a monstrous 14-2 record with 2 title tries behind him. A whole lot of good, seasoned fighters never saw one title fight in their careers. Choi's people just needed to slow it down and give him experience and realize the important thing wasn't fighting for the title but winning it.

I watched this one last night (thanks to @Russell posting it) and scored it the same … as would, I think, anyone with at least one functional eye.

But Bazooka started turning it around the fifth when he ramped up the pressure and went nuclear after he got cut and ran Choi out of the ring.

Choi looked like a really good amateur — couldn’t miss with the right lead and controlled the distance pretty well. Very game. But Limon showed him that this was pro boxing and those first five rounds are just to work out the kinks and get loosened up.
