Gaspar Ortega vs Charley Scott 1

    1 Ortega
    2 Scott brutal round
    3 Scott
    4 Ortega
    5 Scott
    6 Scott
7 Ortega wow the exchange at the end amazing round.
8 Even beautiful infighting from both men.
    9 Scott
10 Scott both men wailing away in the corner amazing.

    97-94 Scott

Never seen this fight before and all i can say is wow it's now one of my favourite fights of all time beautiful infighting all the way nonstop reminded me alot of Castillo vs Corrales 1.

Overall i thought Scott clearly won it but it's one of those fights that was highly competitive all the way through even though Scott clearly won it on points. I have to say i found myself clapping at the end of the 10th round i've never seen anything quite like it, both men were in the corner wailing away for like 40 seconds non stop literally just pumping the arms out like rock em sock em robots it was incredible to witness.

I’ve not seen it start to finish but I am familiar with the ending exchange (which was basically a never-ending exchange) and it’s amazing. Everything good about boxing and those two were probably both pretty happy to hear that final bell, haha.

D, this is how I saw it when I scored it last. Incidentally, I would also recommend Ortega's fights with Florentino Fernandez (both of them), the first fight with Emile Griffith, the Federico Thompson bout and of course the Benny 'Kid' Paret fight. I wasn't too keen on his fight with Carmen Basilio because it was such poor film quality.

Gaspar Ortega v Charley Scott (NY rounds scoring)

    Round 1: Ortega
    Round 2: Scott
    Round 3: Scott
    Round 4: Even
    Round 5: Scott
    Round 6: Scott
    Round 7: Ortega
    Round 8: Ortega
    Round 9: Even
    Round 10: Scott

    Total: 5-3-2 Scott

Man, there is no telling what these two could do in today's era. Todays fans would be talking about them as all-time greats. They just happen to come from a very strong era that entertained audiences. Outstanding fight. Incidentally, for those that love stats, Actual scores were 5-4-1, 6-3-1 and 6-1-3 all for Scott.

Been watching Eugene Hart vs Fate Davis. Davis had a really interesting career on the b-side of the game... Fought Napoles at welterweight and was TKO'ed in 6. Lost and drew with Curtis Cokes over two bouts after that, eventually moving to middleweight.

Robbie Peden v Nate Campbell II (jr. lightweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Peden
    Round 2: 10-9 Campbell
    Round 3: 10-9 Campbell
    Round 4: 10-9 Peden
    Round 5: 10-9 Peden
Round 6: 10-8 Peden (Campbell penalized 1 point for a low blow)
    Round 7: 10-9 Peden
Round 8: Referee stops contest in favor of Peden

Total through 7 completed rounds: 68-64 Peden (actual scores: 66-65, 68-65 and 68-66 all for Peden)

If I was Peden, I wouldn't be overly proud of that victory. He had a lot going for him with his high trunks, a can-opener of a head, and mostly for a very compliant referee. That ref was very hard on Campbell. He couldn't help but be penalized the way Peden was allowed to wear his trunks and protector. Also I saw a lot of Peden headwork in there but again, the ref would only come down on Campbell. The deck was stacked I'm afraid.

Courage was a fraud HBO wanted to perpetrate on the public but they couldn’t prop him up long enough to get him to main event status.

Big puncher when facing Willie Fall, Chip Panzee and Kenny Last types but not good enough even to top decent journeymen.

It was fun when he was a mythical creature they’d talk about on broadcasts about some KO 1 against Dusty Trunks, maybe even show us a 10-second clip, but that’s about as far as it went. He literally doesn’t even have a best win.

He makes Jorge Luis Gonzalez, who at least had a world-class amateur background and did beat many of the usual suspects (and a much more interesting hair style), look like a first-ballot hall of famer.

Neat to see him show up here, though. I remember the hype. Never would have thought of him again without this, probably.

    Erik Morales vs Marcos Maidana.

What a fight and a hell of a performance from the aging Legend from Tijuana Mexico. He showed everybody that night that he still had enough left in the tank to battle a prime ferocious Maidana who hadn't even had his Marquee win yet (Broner) on his resume. I had the fight a draw, and believed they should have had a second fight

    Morales Maidana

    R1. 9. 10
    R2. 9. 10
    R3. 10. 9
    R4. 9. 10
    R5. 10. 9
    R6. 9. 10
    R7. 10. 9
    R8 10. 9
    R9. 10. 9
    R10. 10. 9
    R11. 9. 10
    R12. 9. 10

    114-114 A Draw!

    5 Arguello 10-7 2 knockdowns
    6 Escalera
    7 Escalera
    8 Escalera
    9 Arguello
    10 Arguello
    11 Arguello
    12 Escalera
    13 Arguello wins by KO

    124-121 Arguello

@Jel i know i've seen you say before that you rate these fights as one of your favourites i have to say i thought the 2nd fight was considerably better. Escalera was much more assertive and pressured Arguello from round 1 making it a better action fight with more consistent action. I also think the 1st fight ended a bit disappointingly because Escalera was doing well in the later rounds and the fight was getting really interesting until it was stopped on cuts, where as the 2nd fight had a much more conclusive ending with the KO which is another reason i prefer the 2nd fight.

Overall 2 great fights but the 2nd one was better as Escalera really went for it and we had a much more satisfying ending.

Yeah, it was me and @PhillyPhan69 who had a friendly debate about which of these was better - he liked the first one more and I liked the second more.

I agree with you that the second had the more statisfying conclusion. Escalera seemed to be coming on again when Arguello dropped him hard in the 13th with that picture perfect left hook.

Escalera showed tremendous heart in both fights and Arguello knew he’d been through a real endurance test each time, particularly in the second fight.

Going through some latter career Bob Foster and wondering how much he had left in the tank for these two bouts... What say you? Was he almost toothless by this point?

Arturo Gatti vs Micky Ward 1

    1 Gatti
    2 Gatti
    3 Gatti
    4 Ward 10-8 point deduction
    5 Ward
    6 Gatti
    7 Gatti
    8 Ward
    9 Ward 10-8 knockdown
    10 Gatti

    94-94 Draw

Decided to watch this great fight again in 60fps for me there's only two debatable rounds in this fight. The 3rd round Ward pressured Gatti well and started to land his famous left hook to the body, but i thought Gatti had the better of the round overall even though it was very competitive but i could see this round for Ward. And finally the 4th round in which Gatti had a point deducted for the low blow again i could see 9-9 round but i thought Ward nicked the round.

Overall depending on how you scored those 2 rounds you could have a different winner but i have no issue with Ward getting the nod as Gatti lost 3 points overall with the point deduction and the knockdown.

PS Lederman also had the same scorecard as me.

Arturo Gatti vs Micky Ward 3

    1 Gatti
    2 Gatti
    3 Gatti
    4 Ward
    5 Gatti
    6 Ward 10-8 knockdown
    7 Gatti
    8 Gatti
    9 Gatti
    10 Gatti

    97-92 Gatti

I've always thought the trilogy was overrated honestly yes the 1st fight was amazing but the 2nd fight was a blow out and whilst the 3rd fight was good in spurts mostly Gatti out boxed and won nearly every round.

You had some drama with the knockdown and Gatti breaking his hand but Ward was still far too slow and could never really get his offence going apart from in a few rounds.

Overall very easy fight to score only 2 debatable rounds is the 6th round whether or not it should've been a 10-9 round as Gatti clearly won the round until the last 10 seconds when he got floored. The 10th round Ward made a good go of it and it was a competitive round but again he was clearly out punched but it's a round maybe i could see for Ward.

There's no way this fight should've won FOTY over Toney vs Jirov or MAB vs Morales 3 there was only a few stand out rounds and Gatti mostly dominated. The fight's above were fought at a much higher level and had way more competitive action as i said before i think the Gatti vs Ward trilogy is overrated as a whole.
