Charles 'The Hatchet' Brewer v Herol 'Bomber' Graham (super middleweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Brewer
    Round 2: 10-10 Even
    Round 3: 10-7 Graham (scores 2 knockdowns)
    Round 4: 10-9 Graham
    Round 5: 10-9 Graham
    Round 6: 10-9 Graham
    Round 7: 10-9 Brewer
    Round 8: 10-9 Graham
    Round 9: 10-9 Graham
    Round 10: Brewer stops Graham

Total through 9 completed rounds: 88-82 Graham (actual scores: 85-84 Graham, 86-86 Even and an 86-84 for Brewer through 9)

Not a recommendation to watch this fight, as it really just wasn't very exciting outside the 3rd round and the 10th. However, it was interesting and a bit heart-breaking for Graham coming so close (not that he was going to win it on the official cards). He really had himself to blame in the 10th as he just needed to take a knee to regroup, but I guess that fighter's heart didn't want him to touch down. Brewer was dogged in his attack and was really looking shop-worn in the 10th until he caught Graham. I will also say, the ref blew the first knockdown. That was a pull down if I ever saw one, but the ref made it official.

    Nikolai Valuev vs Evander Holyfield.

    The Robbery in Switzerland!

Now this fight wasn't very pleasant to watch, I mean in actuality it was a terrible fight but because Valuev didn't show up to fight. Valuev let Holyfield do whatever he wanted in the ring, Holy dictated the pace and landed the cleaner shots in the rounds he won. I had it 117-111 For Holyfield, there was absolutely no way Valuev won that fight. He just wasn't active enough to keep his title.

    Valuev. Holyfield

    R1 9. 10
    R2 9. 10
    R3 9. 10
    R4 9. 10
    R5 9. 10
    R6 10. 9
    R7 9. 10
    R8 10. 9
    R9 9. 10
    R10 9. 10
    R11 9. 10
    R12 10. 9

    117-111 Evander Holyfield.

This was a really impressive performance considering how shot Graham had looked against Grant before his initial retirement six years earlier...then, after the big upset win over prospect Chris Johnson, the terrible fight against blown up Pazienza seemed to be an obvious indicator for him to retire now on a win before he gets hurt against a legit 168lber. I expected he would get beaten up and badly knocked out going into this - Brewer wasn't a strong champ, but that was mainly because of his bad chin...he was a hard hitter with pretty good speed and offensive ability facing a fighter who had been getting badly rocked by nearly every good punch since the Jackson KO, and now could barely take a guy like Paz's punches.

Brewer had a Hearns/Hagler type war vs Echols its a shame that fight had a premature stoppage though as the fight was still in the balance and up until that point was a great fight.

Israel Vasquez vs Rafael Marquez 3

    1 Marquez
    2 Marquez close round
    3 Marquez
    4 Marquez 10-8 knockdown
    5 Vasquez
    6 Vasquez
7 Vasquez good finish by Marquez but not enough for me.
    8 Vasquez
    9 Marquez
10 9-9 I thought Marquez won the round but he gets point deducted.
    11 Vasquez
    12 Vasquez 10-8 knockdown

    113-112 Vasquez

I decided to watch this great fight again with the recent passing of Vasquez for me this fight is so much better than Gatti vs Ward highly quality action all the way between two great fighters. I thought Marquez did well in the first 4 rounds boxing well at range but as soon as he knocked down Vasquez in the 4th round that seemed to awaken to beast in Vasquez. Who started pressuring Marquez alot better in the 2nd half of the fight and i thought Vasquez had mostly the better of it in the 2nd half with his effective aggression.

As for my scoring there's a few swing rounds the 2nd was close so was the 7th round they're definitely swing rounds IMO. The point deduction was also huge as i had Marquez winning that round but the point deduction made it an even round, i can't blame the referee as he did warn Marquez earlier in the fight that the next low blow would be a point deduction.

Overall this fight still holds up as one of the best fights of all time i would've had it a draw but the point deduction made a difference on my scorecard.

    Also again RIP to Vasquez.

Larry Holmes vs Michael Spinks 1

    1 Holmes
    2 Holmes
    3 Spinks
    4 Spinks
    5 Holmes
    6 Spinks
    7 Spinks
    8 Holmes
    9 Holmes
    10 Spinks
    11 Spinks
    12 Spinks
    13 Spinks
    14 Holmes
    15 Holmes

    143-142 Spinks

@swagdelfadeel I said i would score this one for you mate.

I thought Spinks just outhustled Holmes who gave away too many rounds with inactivity letting Spinks just outwork him. Holmes just didn't look sharp especially with his right hand it was quite a frustrating fight to watch actually. Because i felt the fight was very winnable for Holmes had it just done a bit more, he even had some good moments in the 8th-9th round troubling Spinks to the body i have no idea why Holmes didn't continue going to the body after that. Holmes landed his best right hand in the last round but it was a too little too late, Spinks with his awkward style/movement just outhustled the older champion for me.

Close fight though actually a bit closer than i remembered.

In light of the passing of Israel Vasquez I wanted to check out one of his fights that I hadn't seen and I alighted on...

Israel Vasquez v Marcos Licona (some vacant crap super bantamweight title)

    Round 1: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-9 Vasquez
    Round 3: 10-10 Even
    Round 4: 10-9 Vasquez
    Round 5: 10-9 Vasquez
    Round 6: 10-9 Vasquez
    Round 7: 10-9 Vasquez
    Round 8: 10-10 Even
    Round 9: 10-8 Licona (scores a knockdown)
    Round 10: 10-9 Licona
    Round 11: 10-9 Vasquez
    Round 12: 10-9 Licona

Total: 116-114 Vasquez (actual scores: 114-113 Vasquez, 115-112 and another 115-112 both for Licona for a split win)

Oh, man, I loved this fight. Talk about two guys who gave it their all. I would have been cool with a draw in this fight because every single round was fought like a hair between them and they fought it very composed. It started to heat up around the 4th and took off from there. The 12 rounds was over before I knew it. Most think only of the Marquez fights when it comes to Vasquez, and rightfully so, but this too is worth seeing.

Sorry just saw. And thank you! I thought I was crazy for scoring it for Holmes by a point last time I watched, years ago. Semester's almost over. When it's done, I'll rewatch and rescore it.

I decided to watch this after seeing your write up Scar this is how i had it.

    Israel Vasquez vs Marcos Licona

    1 Licona
    2 Vasquez
    3 Even
    4 Vasquez
    5 Vasquez
    6 Vasquez
    7 Vasquez
    8 Licona
    9 Licona 10-8 knockdown
    10 Licona
    11 Licona
    12 Licona

    115-113 Licona

Good solid action fight a fight of two halves honestly Vasquez was in control of the 1st half of the fight with his effective aggression and better boxing skills. Licona started to find a home for his right hand in the 8th round and when he knocked down Vasquez in the 9th round with a hard right hand the fight completely turned around.

I thought Licona pulled it out in the last 5 rounds for me his right hand was always the eye catching punch and he seemed to be making he more his type of fight. I loved Vasquez as a fighter and i was very sad to hear of his passing recently but i do think he legitimately lost this fight IMO.

Looking at the judges scorecards two had it 115-112 for Licona which is pretty much how i see it.

I really don't see a bad scorecard here. These rounds were razor close and when you have that, everything is possible. From the angle of the official, from the view ringside to our view onscreen. A damn close fight. But I hope you enjoyed the fast, clean punching.

Fabio Wardley vs Frazier Clarke 1

    1 Clarke
    2 Wardley close
    3 Wardley
    4 Clarke
    5 Wardley 10-8 knockdown
    6 Wardley
7 9-9 point deduction for Clarke
    8 Clarke
    9 Clarke
    10 Wardley
11 Wardley close end barrage swayed it for me
    12 Clarke

    114-112 Wardley

@scartissue not sure if you've ever seen this fight before but this is a decent British domestic Heavyweight slugfest that will test your scoring abilities quite a tough one to score. The fight for me was a bit too sloppy i prefer a bit more cleaner action but there's still some good drama and it's worth watching. Wardley's nose was grotesque i haven't seen a bloody nose as bad as that quite honestly, i do think Wardley edged it with the knockdown but there is quite a few close swing rounds so i think draw was very acceptable.
