Began watching their first fight, but had a round missing, so I alighted on their second fight.

Scott Pemberton v Omar Sheika II (NABF 168 title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Sheika
    Round 2: 10-8 Sheika (scores a knockdown)
    Round 3: 10-9 Pemberton
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Pemberton
Round 6: 10-8 Sheika (scores a standing 8-count due to the rule that the ropes held up Scott)
    Round 7: 10-9 Pemberton
    Round 8: 10-10 Even
Round 9: 10-8 Pemberton (last minute was a battering)
Round 10: Pemberton drops and stops Sheika

Total through 9 completed rounds: 85-85 Even (official scores not known)

Guys, a great old club-fight if there was ever one. These two really took turns banging away. Pemberton's straight shots to Sheika's wide hooks. Sheika was coming apart at the seams those last 2 rounds from a combo of Scott's shots but moreso from exhaustion. Stopped at the right time.

    Gervonta Davis vs Issac Cruz

    1 Cruz
    2 Cruz
    3 Davis
    4 Cruz
    5 Davis
    6 Davis
    7 Davis
    8 Cruz
    9 Davis
    10 Cruz
    11 Cruz
    12 Davis

    114-114 Draw

Very close fight a few swing rounds i have no issue with Davis getting a close decision 115-113 from two of the judges seems quite fair although i thought 116-112 was a bit too wide.

Davis landed eye catching single shots on the backfoot counter punching with the left uppercut being the stand out punch but i don't think they were landing quite as much as the commentators made out.

Cruz did some good work to the body and showed a nice tight compact defence coming forward with smart pressure.

The 12th round Davis boxed very cautious maybe thinking the momentum had shifted but despite fighting cautiously he did clearly win the round with his right hand and that may of won him the fight boxing a very smart last round.

great fight. I had Nelson up, 88-82. I counted Cabrera's ninth-round fall as a knockdown.

    Sandy Saddler vs Del Flanagan

    Rd 1: Flanagan
    Rd 2: Flanagan
    Rd 3: Flanagan
    Rd 4: Flanagan
    Rd 5: Saddler
    Rd 6: Saddler
    Rd 7: Flanagan
    Rd 8: Even
    Rd 9: Saddler
    Rd 10: Flanagan

Final scorecard: 6-3-1 FLANAGAN (Official scorecards were 52-48, 54-46 and 51-49 for Flanagan. I am not exactly sure how they arrived to those numbers if the five point scoring system was employed. Is there another historical scoring system I am not aware of ?)

Featherweight champ Sandy Saddler took on the challenge of fighting undefeated lightweight Del Flanagan with an impressive record of 49-0. Flanagan, who was trained by Willie Pep, showed up with the correct game plan to defeat Saddler. In a lot of ways he fought like Willie, he used his lateral movement, and was tagging Saddler with the left jab for the entire ten rounds. But unlike his mentor, he was able to successfully tie up Saddler when Saddler attempted to corner him. In fact, Flanagan was really manhandling Saddler out there. He tied Saddler up, pushed him across the ring, and spun him around. He basically gave Saddler a taste of his own medicine. Sandy didn't have much success on offense. He tried to work on his opponent's mid-section, but that didn't really seem to have much effect on Flanagan. He did catch Flanagan with a powerful left hook in the 9th round when Del became overconfident and started throwing combos, but Flanagan quickly recovered and gave Saddler a good beating in the final round. Rather ugly fight due to all the wrestling, but nonetheless good showing from Flanagan.

Daniel Zaragoza v Erik Morales (super bantamweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 DZ
    Round 2: 10-9 Morales
    Round 3: 10-10 Even
    Round 4: 10-9 DZ
    Round 5: 10-9 DZ
    Round 6: 10-9 Morales
    Round 7: 10-9 Morales
    Round 8: 10-9 Morales
    Round 9: 10-9 Morales
    Round 10: 10-8 Morales (scores a knockdown)
Round 11: Morales drops Zaragoza with a long body shot and Zaragoza is done

Total through 10 completed rounds: 97-93 Morales (actual scores: 96-93 and 95-94 both for Morales and a 95-94 for Zaragoza)

Terrific fight. One where most knew that the outstanding contender was going to take the title, but the champ put up stiff opposition and refused to go meekly into the night. I'll bet those looping shots of Zaragoza gave the Morales corner fits. But El Terrible took his time and wore down the old warrior. Again, terrific fight.

I do, what an unbelievable fight that was. Two tough guys who're no longer with us, but fought their hearts out.

Also, shout out for Letterlough for failing to land a single jab on Jirov.

Emile Griffith v Nino Benvenuti 1

    Rd 1: Griffith 10-9
    Rd 2: Benvenuti 8-10*
    Rd 3: Grifith 10-9
    Rd 4: Griffith 10-8*
    Rd 5: Griffith 10-9
    Rd 6: Benvenuti 9-10
    Rd 7: Benvenuti 9-10
    Rd 8: 10-9 Griffith
    Rd 9: 10-9 Griffith
    Rd 10: 9-10 Benvenuti
    Rd 11: 9-10 Benvenuti
    Rd 12: 9-10 Benvenuti
    Rd 13: 9-10 Benvenuti
    Rd 14: 9-10 Benvenuti
    Rd 15: 9-10 Benvenuti

Final scorecard: 9-6 BENVENUTI or alternatively 143-140 BENVENUTI
    Official scorecards: 10-5, 10-5 and 9-6 BENVENUTI

First fight of the Griffith-Benvenuti trilogy was pretty decent. Griffith was down in the 2nd round from a nasty right uppercut by Benvenuti, while Benvenuti suffered a knockdown in the 4th round when Emile caught him with a picture perfect overhand right to the temple when he was circling to the right. Throughout the first nine rounds, Emile looked like a better fighter. He was closing the distance well and was landing clean punches to the head of Benvenuti who initially had trouble with utilising his superior reach. 10th round was definitely a turning point for Benvenuti because this is when he made necessary adjustments to win the fight. He started using his left jab more frequently to keep Griffith at distance. And whenever Griffith tried to get inside, Benvenuti would either hit him with an uppercut or take a quick step backwards and score with a left hook. I thought Benvenuti swept the last six rounds and deservedly won their first encounter.

This is a perfect example of a respectful passing of the torch moment. Zaragoza may of been at the end of his career and went out on a loss but he went out on a very brave effort in a great fight against a young ATG in his prime no shame in that.
