I'll have to go back and watch the 11th, I did not remember that round being close.

agreed, I think on last viewing I gave Tito 2 of the 1st 6 then 4 of the last 6 rounds. Oscar did himself no favors giving away rounds

Yea I remember being back and forth on the 12th and 2 being a round I scored live for Maidana but then to Floyd when rewatching it

Interesting fight and the first fight since Castillo where I wasn't sure Floyd was going to get his hand raised

Gilberto Roman vs Santos Laciar I
    1: Roman 10-9
    2: Roman 20-18
    3: Laciar 39-38
    4: Laciar 48-48
    5: Laciar 57-58
    6: Laciar 66-68
    7: Roman 76-77
    8: Laciar 85-87
    9: Roman 95-96
    10: Roman 105-105
    11: Laciar 114-115
    12: Roman 124-124

Probably controversial, but yeah,I think this fight was a genuine head scratcher that deserved the draw, some rounds had Roman pushing the action, then the other is Laciar pressuring him to death,10/10 classic.

Inspired by your post, I decided to rewatch this one. I personally think Oscar did enough to win, but I can't say I felt bad for him when the results were announced. IMO this was such an underwhelming fight considering the talent involved. Below is my scorecard:

    Rd 1: 10-9 Felix
    Rd 2: 9-10 DLH
    Rd 3: 9-10 DLH
    Rd 4: 10-9 Felix
    Rd 5: 9-10 DLH
    Rd 6: 9-10 DLH
    Rd 7: 9-10 DLH
    Rd 8: 9-10 DLH
    Rd 9: 9-10 DLH
    Rd 10: 10-10 Even
    Rd 11: 10-9 Felix
    Rd 12: 10-9 Felix

Final scorecard: 116-113 DE LA HOYA

Azumah Nelson v Danilo Cabrera (featherweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Nelson
    Round 2: 10-9 Cabrera
    Round 3: 10-9 Nelson
    Round 4: 10-9 Nelson
    Round 5: 10-9 Nelson
    Round 6: 10-9 Nelson
    Round 7: 10-9 Cabrera
    Round 8: 10-9 Nelson
    Round 9: 10-9 Nelson
Round 10: Nelson drops and stops Cabrera

Total through 9 completed rounds: 88-83 Nelson (actual scores: 88-82, 88-82 and 89-82 all for Nelson)

Antonio, hadn't watched this since seeing it live, but your post stirred the memory and needed to check it out again. I'll say this for Cabrera, he must've had an outstanding manager. For a guy that really never did much other than win the DR featherweight title and best win was over Carlos Pinango, he received no less than 3 title shots. That's pulling a lot of strings. I will say in the McGuigan and Nelson fight he did put up a bit of a fight. Although, admittedly, in the Nelson fight they fought in a huge ring and Cabrera used every inch of it. But when he engaged he did well. I agree with you Antonio, that 9th round, the knockdown looked legit. I didn't count it as a count wasn't administered, but I won't frown on anyone for exercising their view in scoring that way. One final thought. Nelson was so methodical here. He just slowly chopped Cabrera down.

I need to rewatch Azumah vs Lupe Suarez sometime. I was at that fight live in Atlantic City (I think it was day before Tyson-Spinks) and felt Lupe was ahead and outboxing Nelson … then Azumah clocked him with a clean, massive shot thrown after the bell (like deliberately — wait til he drops his guard and then launch) which I understand the camera’s didn’t catch as they cut away to commercial.

Lupe was out of it when the next round began and Nelson stopped him.

Want to see if my impression is the same.

Pat, I checked this out about 2 years ago, but I don't want to ruin things for you as it unfolds. I'll post my card after you.

Sugar Ray Leonard v Marvelous Marvin Hagler

    Rd 1: 10-9 SRR
    Rd 2: 9-10 Hagler
    Rd 3: 9-10 Hagler
    Rd 4: 10-9 SRR
    Rd 5: 9-10 Hagler
    Rd 6: 10-9 SRR
    Rd 7: 9-10 Hagler
    Rd 8: 9-10 Hagler
    Rd 9: 9-10 Hagler
    Rd 10: 9-10 Hagler
    Rd 11: 10-10 Even
    Rd 12: 9-10 Hagler

    Final scorecard: 117-112 HAGLER

4th viewing and this is my widest scorecard so far. Usually, I scored it 115-113 for Hagler, but I now believe that during my initial viewings I was overly influenced by the commonly repeated narrative that "Hagler gave the first four rounds away". This time I awarded Hagler 2nd and 3rd round and I watched them twice to confirm my judgement. For me, Leonard's performance is definition of style over substance. He managed to mesmerize the judges with his showboating and pitty-patty punches at the end of rounds that predominantly landed on his opponent's gloves. Hagler, while admittedly looking sluggish at times, inflicted far more damaging blows. He also outlanded Leonard and was aggressor for the entirety of the fight. I always felt Hagler deserved the nod, but was reluctant to call it robbery. Now, I am more inclined to agree with Marvelous that he was indeed robbed.

A brilliant fight. This is how I had it:

Daniel Zaragoza v Paul Banke I

    Round 1: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-9 DZ
    Round 3: 10-9 DZ
    Round 4: 10-9 Banke
    Round 5: 10-9 DZ
    Round 6: 10-9 DZ
    Round 7: 10-10 Even
    Round 8: 10-9 DZ
    Round 9: 10-8 Banke (scores a knockdown)
    Round 10: 10-9 DZ
    Round 11: 10-9 DZ
    Round 12: 10-9 DZ

Total: 117-112 Zaragoza (actual scores: 115-113 Banke and a 116-110, 117-110 both for Zaragoza for a split win)

Tough fight and tough on the scorer. Zaragoza's endless tank won this fight on my card. Banke's punching was brilliant but he just didn't throw enough. The 12th really reflected how this fight went. Zaragoza, with little left simply would not stop throwing punches, which is why he won it on my card. The commentators were Chick Hearn and Ruben Castillo. I kept noticing Castillo giving rounds to Banke that I was giving to DZ. I thought maybe he's known him from the gym for years but then he finally said later in the telecast that they were also neighbors, so I think a bit of partiality shown through there. But regardless of how one sees this, it was just a terrific fight.

I’ve heard people argue that Hagler won his share of the first four rounds but I’ve scored it every time for Leonard - obviously scoring is a subjective business and I get the split opinion over rounds 8-12 but I’ve scored rounds 1-7 the same way each time.
    1 Leonard
    2 Leonard
    3 Leonard
    4 Leonard (closer)
    5 Hagler
    6 Leonard
    7 Hagler
