Sung Kil Moon v Carlos Salazar (super flyweight title)

    Round 1: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-10 Even
    Round 3: 10-9 Salazar
    Round 4: 10-9 Moon
    Round 5: 10-9 Moon
    Round 6: 10-9 Salazar
    Round 7: 10-9 Moon
    Round 8: 10-9 Moon
    Round 9: 10-9 Moon
    Round 10: 10-10 Even
    Round 11: 10-9 Moon
    Round 12: 10-8 Salazar (scores a knockdown)

Total: 116-114 Moon (actual scores: 115-114 Salazar and 116-112, 116-111 both for Moon on a split decision)

Excellent fight if anyone is inclined to watch. I believe @George Crowcroft viewed this a few years back and had it a draw, which I can see. And if Salazar had more pop in his punches I could see him taking this. To explain, Moon is a counter-puncher's dream. He throws wild, never ducks and is always off-balance. Moreover, he lunges recklessly with the head and was clearly why he was cut in the 2nd round, which morphed into one severe cut. In fact, his corner tried to get the fight stopped before the 7th so they could take advantage of the tech decision rule. This cut was so bad that after being tended to his corner after the 9th, he stood up at the 10th round bell and it was already weeping. Man, this should've been stopped but I never saw a doctor in the ring. The 12th - which was Salazar's best round even without the knockdown - appeared to be where Moon was coming apart at the seams. IMO because of blood loss.

In closing, I know a lot of people here really like Moon. Let's face it, he was exciting. But in another era, where there was not multiple weight classes and multiple champions in each weight class, Moon may never have seen a title shot with the competition a solitary champ would impose. As it was, he received an undeserving title shot after 6 fights and was wrapping up his very successful career after 22 bouts. I'm not picking solely on Moon - there was a lot of fighters in the multiple weight class/multiple champion era that received and won titles. I'm just saying competition separated the world class contenders from the clubfighters.

D, you were kinder to Stanionis than I was. I only gave him a share of the 5th for a 60-54 for Ennis.

    Simon Brown vs Jorge Vaca

No scorecard needed here this was a brutal 3 round beat down with Vaca being put down 6 times with the final KO being pretty brutal. Me personally I would've stopped it in the 2nd round but fair play to Vaca for showing bravery but he was well outgunned.

    Darrell Coley(27-0-2) vs Oba Carr(35-1)
    August 1995
Coley is coming in NABF champion having beaten Terence Alim. His other notable fights are a win over then unbeaten future Trinidad Victim Ray Lovato and a KO1 over Saol Mamby in 1993. Carr has had his war with Bramble that he won and his KO loss to Trinidad in 94. He has since gone 3-0 against journeymen.

I had Coley winning 115-113. Judges disagreed and gave Carr a split decision. Coley had a habit of boxing well and moving, exchanging fire as necessary but man he could be hurt and flail around which did him no favors I'm sure in the judges eyes. Very good fight with Carr stalking and Coley on his bike but being entertaining

Strange enough, Coley said he wanted to pitch a shutout on the cards and not KO Carr. I've never heard a fighter say that before. I also watched this on Coleys YouTube (allegedly) and if we believe it's really him he had a comment that this fight decision really hurt him and he didn't care anymore and he was supposed to get Trinidad after this.

Pepsi, I really enjoyed this fight when first watching it. Here is what I wrote:

I happen to see a fight mentioned on the Oba Carr thread that is going on. It was mentioned that there was some controversy over Carr's decision over Derrell Coley. Well that's all I needed to see, so I looked up the fight on youtube. And guys, you gotta see it. What a terrific fight. Here we go.

    Round 1: 10-9 Coley
    Round 2: 10-9 Coley
    Round 3: 10-9 Carr
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Carr
    Round 6: 10-9 Coley
    Round 7: 10-10 Even
Round 8: 10-9 Coley (Coley was hurt at the end of the round but I still felt he did enough that round to take it)
    Round 9: 10-9 Carr
    Round 10: 10-9 Carr
    Round 11: 10-9 Carr
    Round 12: 10-9 Coley

    Total: 115-115 Draw

Actual scores were 116-114 Coley, 115-113 Carr and 115-114 Carr. To tell you the truth, all the scores including mine were right there. Nothing too wild or out of the question. I would call this a close decision but not a bad decision. The judges were in line. And I really enjoyed this fight which was fought at an incredible pace.

Really good fight, not as good as Coley vs Kip Diggs.....but that's a big ask to be better than that.

So I finally caught up on this from my list, recommended by @scartissue I believe as he wanted to see others scores, and I ended up with a similar score to many posters around here.

Pernell Whitaker vs Wilfredo Rivera I

    Whitaker : Rivera

    1: 10 - 9
    2: 10 - 9
    3: 9 - 10 (close, Rivera cut)
    4: 10 - 10
    5: 10 - 9
    6: 9 - 10

    58 - 57

    7: 9 - 10
    8: 9 - 10
    9: 10 - 9
    10: 9 - 10
    11: 9 - 10
    12: 9 - 10

    55 - 59

    113 - 116 RIVERA

I didn't really like this bout to be honest. Whitaker looked incredibly flat, and neither man really showed any power. Combined with Whitaker's mauling I wouldn't revisit it.

De La Hoya vs Mosley II

TERRIBLE decision imo, Oscar won the early rounds and most of the middle rounds pretty clear. There were a few rounds that were a little hard to score but even if you knick the 8th to Mosley which I though he lost, he still loses the fight 115-113. There was no way you can score the fight for Mosley IMO.

The judges just didn't like De LA Hoya moving around using his jab and boxing off the back foot it seemed in both the Trinidad fight and Mosley rematch which I thought he won both clearly.

116 -112 Oscar De La Hoya. 115-113 DLH is fine as well.

    DLH Rounds: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8*, 10
    Mosley Rounds: 3*, 9, 11, 12*.

    *Signifies close rounds.

    My card:

Oscar DeLaHoya v Shane Mosley II (Jr. middleweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Oscar
    Round 2: 10-9 Oscar
    Round 3: 10-10 Even
    Round 4: 10-9 Oscar
    Round 5: 10-9 Oscar
    Round 6: 10-9 Oscar
    Round 7: 10-10 Even
    Round 8: 10-9 Mosley
    Round 9: 10-9 Mosley
    Round 10: 10-9 Oscar
    Round 11: 10-10 Even
    Round 12: 10-9 Mosley

    Total: 117-114 DeLaHoya

Actual scores were 115-113 X 3 all for Mosley. The Harold Lederman card was 115-113 for Oscar. I thought Oscar really did a good job of controlling the fight from the outside until Mosley finally got inside in the later rounds. It was clear to me that Mosley was not a junior middle. He no longer had that speedy pumping jab he had at lightweight and was really gunning for the KO the whole fight. Of course, what we know of him now getting caught up in the PED thing it is now understandable with the weight gain, whereas with Oscar it appeared to be more natural with his height and all. Regardless, I thought Oscar fought a smart fight and deserved the decision.

Ruben Olivares v Kazuyoshi Kanazawa II (World bantamweight title)

Every so often a fight will come down the pike that I just didn't see like anyone else. Not the judges, nor my peers on this forum. Everyone had this a close fight, but I could only give KK a share of rounds 1 and 5 for a score of 65-54 for Ruben through 13 completed rounds (actual scores: 62-60, 63-61 and 64-64). I thought KK had a decent punch, which he would land on Ruben, but that was it. He would land and there never seemed to be a followup. Meanwhile, Ruben was very busy, especially after 5 rounds when the Olivares engine really revved up. As the fight progressed, KK's face was really starting to show the effects of Ruben's blows and it almost looked like he was trying to foul out in rounds 9 and 10 through deliberate head use, but it might have simply been desperation. Anyways, the fight was progressing for me as a shutout until the 13th. Let me preface this round by saying it was a helluva round - best of the night. Ruben started well as he had been, but around the middle of the round KK went crazy, throwing everything in his exhausted arsenal at Ruben. I was cheering KK at this point and thinking to myself, finally, a round I can give him. But once he was spent, Ruben came back again, finishing the round in fantastic fashion after hurting KK. I know others gave the round to KK - I wanted to as well for heart alone - but Ruben showed too much at the beginning and end of the round. Ruben finished matters in the 14th with 3 knockdowns to end a great fight. Y'know, I could have saved my blushes by burying this card, but that's not what this thread is about - and I'm never embarrassed about my card. Sometimes we all just see things differently.

I completely agree. I don't think the fight was close at all. Ruben was far ahead. IMO.

Very good fight i watched a few Coley fights like 2 years ago highly entertaining fighter but he had a bit of a suspect chin.

    Oba Carr vs Derrell Coley

    1 Coley
    2 Coley
    3 Carr
    4 Carr
    5 Carr
    6 Carr
    7 Coley
    8 Coley
    9 Carr
    10 Carr
    11 Coley
    12 Coley

    114-114 Draw

This was a great scrap probably one of the most underrated Welterweight fights of the 90s. Funnily enough with both fighters being from Detroit and Maryland it had a Leonard vs Hearns feel to it. But the only difference was in this fight the Kronk fighter was the aggressor, and the fighter from Maryland was the boxer role reversal from Leonard/Hearns.

Also just to note i know for a fact i've seen Coley vs ODLH but i have virtually no memory of Coley in that fight so for me this was like watching Coley for the first.

Anyway onto the fight Coley started off really well in the first 2 rounds boxing nicely circling the ring with some great ring generalship whilst landing the occasional solid counter right hand as Carr was unable to close the distance and was outboxed.

Carr was able to turn the fight around after the 2nd round by closing the distance and landing some good body shots. The body shots for me are what turned the fight in Carr's favour and i felt he had a good spell between 3-6. With round 5 being a standout round with some great exchanges in the last minute from both men.

To Coley's credit he decided to switch up his tactics and in rounds 7 and 8 he stood in the pocket with Carr. Actually winning the fight on the inside with some good handspeed and combinations outpunching Carr although Coley was badly hurt in the last 10 seconds of the 8th round. For me there's no way that was enough to steal the round for Carr as Coley dominated the round.

Round 9 oh boy this round was something special this was for certain the best round of the entire fight and a ROTY candidate. As both men went back and forth exchanging punches with the momentum swinging back and forth. Coley's legs seemed to be gone but somehow he stood up to the punishment and was able mount a pretty strong rally himself while basically being out on his feet. This round was close but i felt Carr edged it as his punches seemed to have more of an effect on Coley.

The last 3 rounds were a bit more tactical with Coley once again going back to what he was doing earlier in the fight Boxing/Moving Circling. He seemed to take a round off in the 10th round probably wanting to recover from the hectic 9th round. But i feel like Coley was able to successfully outbox Carr quite clearly in the last 2 rounds to earn a draw on my card.

The commentators were convinced Coley had clearly won the fight based on his ring generalship and boxing. I wouldn't say i disagree that you could have Coley winning but i certainly don't think Coley won it clearly.

Overall it was a very fun fight to watch and a great contrast of styles Coley really impressed me with his boxing skills and Carr as always a very fun fighter to watch with some nice skills of his own.
