Rewatched Page vs Snipes. Was a good one. Both guys in shape and I remember now how much more active the heavyweights seemed.
I’ve been less than charitable with Page in the past but he looked good here.
A clear win for Greg, about 9-3, but competitive. The swollen eye did Renaldo no favours.
Also watched Damiani vs De Plooy from the thread posted in classic. Damiani was a decent fighter. I’d forgotten about him.

    Muhammad Ali vs Earnie Shavers

    Round 1: Draw
    Round 2: Shavers
    Round 3: Draw
    Round 4: Shavers
    Round 5: Ali
    Round 6: Shavers
    Round 7: Shavers
    Round 8: Shavers
    Round 9: Shavers
    Round 10: Ali
    Round 11: Ali
    Round 12: Ali
    Round 13: Shavers
    Round 14: Shavers
    Round 15: Ali

    Total: 8-5-2 Shavers

This is the first time in my life I scored this fight for Shavers. I felt like, except for the rounds 10-12 and 15, he landed bigger punches and had control over action. Ali almost stopped him in the end, but in my opinion, Earnie outpointed the GOAT in this one. Well, at least this time.

Chris John vs Daud Yordan (WBA Featherweight World Title Fight)
    R1: John 10-9
    R2: John 20-18
    R3: John 30-27
    R4: John 40-36
    R5: John 50-45
    R6: Yordan 59-55
    R7: Yordan 68-65
    R8: Yordan 77-75
    R9: John 87-84
    R10: John 97-93
    R11: Yordan 106-103
    R12: John 116-112

First all Indonesian title fight ever, and it was..an awesome scrap,John was supposed to be old with Yordan, the young promising local boxer with good power being hyped as the one to dethrone The Dragon, and well...

I loved how John used his experience in this fight, outmaneuvering Yordan, poking him with jabs, and even using his infighting knowledge to land crisp shots,he did take some rounds off in the fight to take some breaths, and Yordan capitalized on it with his power punching.

But it was a good display between the skill and experience of the champ,Chris John barring against the young, full of spirit and heart of the fan friendly fighter,Daud Yordan.

    Recommended to watch/score, really..

Leo Gamez should be in the IBHOF. He and Betulio Gonzalez are the two Venezuelans missing, although I understand that Gonzalez was the WBA's favorite son and so in his case he was a bit like Samuel Serrano.

    But it's neither Gonzalez's nor Serrano's fault.

Maybe if Daud got his shot at John couple years later, He could've had a chance to dethrone him - but at that time, Chris was still World Class - and Yordan was probably never quite.
Regardless, this fight made me a fan of Daud. I liked his balanced, technical - yet aggressive, style.

Good fight, not the borefest I expected!

A couple of observations: Patterson's problem was he was not letting go as often as Ellis early on and that might have cost him on the only scorecard.

Ellis went down in round 14 and instead of going to his corner to let the referee count, Patterson tapped Ellis to console him, giving him precious moments to recuperate!

The referee did not count it as a knockdown. Mistakenly, KO and Ring Magazine called it a knockdown for years.

last but not least, ABC did not show the last round so we cant score that one. With that in mind I scored it 134-132 for Patterson, having had to discount the knockdown since it was not scored as one.

I cannot consider it an outrageous robbery as many do.

I think the thing about this one was for the first time in a title fight as an experiment/gimmick, they showed the cards round by round on TV so the scores were public.

Angelo Dundee had someone monitoring the scoring on TV in the locker room and running the scores out to the corner, so he knew what the scoring was as it unfolded and could strategize accordingly. Nobody in the Shavers camp thought of it.

So whatever you or I might think the scoring was, Dundee was able to convey to put his foot on the gas late and Earnie kind of coasted.

It’s like playing a basketball game where only one side sees the scoreboard.

I mean though,if you really want to make Yordan dethrone John, you'll probably pull the older John that lost to Vetyeka.

Would make.. atleast a bit more accepting passing of the torch for the Indonesians imo.

I think Yordan, while he was like Ruslan Provodnikov straight out of indomart (Indonesian Walmart),was limited when it comes to his footwork and overall..varying defense,John outclassed him on the inside even, despite how Yordan managed to rock him a few times when John took some rounds off.

Either way,he has good fundamentals, good punching power, always coming forward, very exciting fighter, too bad when he fought against Simpiwe Vetyeka,he also lost like his predecessor (tho I believe the John that fought Juarez would've decisioned Vetyeka),and from the his failed title challenges..(Celestino Caballero,Chris John, Simpiwe Vetyeka),he did improve..but not enough to beat the champions of his era.

Did anyone score Wlad vs AJ by chance?
