Part II of one of the greatest trilogies in the history of boxing. Holyfield under the tutelage of Emanuel Steward made sure he stuck to his gameplan this time and tried to outbox Bowe, who came in a little bit out of shape, which was pointed out many times by Foreman during the broadcast. You would think him and Bowe had some kind of beef as George was roasting him throughout the whole bout, lol. The fight was a bit hard to score, I had it a draw just like Harold Lederman, but composed out of different rounds. Larry Merchant had the fight clearly to Holyfield. If I had to score it by rounds it would be 6-4-2 Holyfield. Round 7 is the closest one imo and it could have easily went to Evander, making it 115-113 on my scorecard.

Few observations:
John John should be in the IBHOF.

The finish was sensational.

Gulunzuga reminds me of Livingstone Bramble how he boxed. Not a bad boxer at all.

The referee actually laughed when the first knockdown occurred. He also lost the count for a second.

 

Also one of the craziest rounds in boxing history.

With Bowe fights you could never go for a snack in round 7 lol!

All very one sided apart from Hatton taking a few and getting a nasty cut in the 1st round - this was his 3rd American fight. Textbook crippling body shots to take his opponent clean out.

 

Juan Manuel Marquez v Julio Gamboa

I saw this fight was out there and thought it would be a good fight. I recently watched Gamboa's fight with Jorge Elicier Julio and thought he was damn good and would give Marquez a tussle. I'm not saying I was wrong, as he came to fight. But I gotta tell ya, Marquez was at another level and he just fired those brilliant combinations on the inside, outside and up the middle until Gamboa was thoroughly cut up (although the cut over the right eye did appear to be from an accidental butt). I was great seeing JMM in action again.

 

Sam Noakes vs Yvan Mendy

A very good performance from Noakes, shows me a lot to really make me anticipate the fight this weekend. No real changes of momentum in the fight, a shut out for Noakes, excluding a spell from 9 onwards where Mendy pushes on a bit, but Noakes is able to resist the pressure and maintain control. Great mid range work and well executed body shots throughout. Mendy is well known on the European scene, multi champion and a catalogue of 12 founders against world level opponents.

Abdullah Mason vs Ohan Jr
Vs Jeremia Nakathalia

Mason always looks good on the eye, you can see the physical development and maturity in the most recent right. Good speed and feints with the front foot pressure.

Didn’t watch start to finish or score, but revisited several rounds of Pernell Whitaker vs Azumah Nelson the other night.

Sweet Pea was in total command and at times toying with a legend (albeit one coming up from 130 to 135). Nobody in their right mind should have wanted anything to do with Whitaker below 147 — can’t hit him with a handful of salt.
