    Deontay Wilder vs Derek Chisora

    1 Chisora
    2 Wilder
    3 Wilder
    4 Chisora
    5 Chisora
    6 Wilder
    7 Wilder
    8 Wilder 9-8 knockdown & point deducted.
    9 Wilder
    10 Chisora
    11 Wilder 9-8 2 knockdowns each.
    12 Chisora

    113-111 Wilder

Very sloppy too sloppy for my liking but there was some entertaining moments.

Wilder was definitely hard done by in regards to the referee.

There's no way Wilder should've had a point deducted. And the knockdown was also clearly a slip aswell.

Wilder losing 2 points overall that he didn't deserve to lose made it closer on the scorecards.

But Wilder still clearly won by a few points IMO with the cleaner work.

    Stevie Johnson vs Sharmba Mitchell

    1. Even
    2. Mitchell
    3. Mitchell
    4. Johnston
    5. Johnston
    6. Even
    7. Johnston
    8. Johnston
    9. Johnston wins by TKO

    78-76 Johnston

I decided to watch this based on your write up I also like Johnston as a fighter aswell.

    A few things to mention.

A very good win for Johnston considering he'd only had 11 professional fights. Fighting against a world class experienced fighter in Mitchell.

It was a nip tuck close affair with eye pleasing clean fast punching from two skilled Southpaws.

But I thought despite Johnston having less experience he had less wasted motion and was a bit tighter with his defence and punches.

I thought the stoppage was a tad early and the referee could've let it go on a bit longer.

But i think Johnston would’ve got the stoppage regardless.

A fun skillful fight to watch overall.

I scored this a few years ago we see this fight completely differently.

From memory I thought Fernandez won it clearly IMO. He was unusually the aggressor and i thought his punches were alot more effective overall.

Vilomar Fernandez vs Howard Davis Jr

    1 Fernandez
    2 Fernandez 10-8 Knockdown
    3 Fernandez
    4 Fernandez
    5 Davis
    6 Fernandez
    7 Fernandez
    8 Davis
    9 Davis
    10 Fernandez
    11 Davis
    12 Fernandez

    116-111 Fernandez

I heard this was a bad decision and i think it was.

Fernandez who is normally a counter puncher/mover was the aggressor throughout the whole fight. And landed the harder more effective/harder punches that consistently hurt/buzzed Davis.

Davis for me got overwhelmed in the 1st half of the fight and whilst he did better in the 2nd half of the fight standing his ground more. His punches were just not that effective and for me, and Fernandez was always landing the more effective punches combined with his effective aggression i thought he was a clear winner.

David Tua v Monte Barrett II

    Round 1: 10-9 Barrett
    Round 2: 10-9 Barrett
    Round 3: 10-9 Barrett
    Round 4: 10-9 Barrett
    Round 5: 10-9 Barrett
    Round 6: 10-10 Even
    Round 7: 10-9 Barrett
    Round 8: 10-10 Even
    Round 9: 10-10 Even
    Round 10: 10-9 Tua
    Round 11: 10-9 Tua
    Round 12: 10-8 Tua (scores a knockdown)

Total: 116-114 Barrett (actual scores: 114-113, 115-112 and another 115-112 all for Barrett)

Man, Tua frustrated me throughout the years. I was always screaming "let your hands go!" He tried to make one of his legendary late finishes but was lacking in the tank. But he has himself to blame. I barely saw him throw a punch until the 6th round. Barrett was no world-shaker but I'm glad the right man got it.

D, this bout does pose a conundrum on scoring. You and Pat had diverse cards and I came somewhere in the middle. Here was my card:

Howard Davis v Vilomar Fernandez (12 round eliminator)

    Round 1: 10-9 Fernandez
    Round 2: 10-8 Fernandez (scores a knockdown)
    Round 3: 10-9 Fernandez
    Round 4: 10-9 Fernandez
    Round 5: 10-9 Davis
    Round 6: 10-9 Fernandez
    Round 7: 10-10 Even
    Round 8: 10-9 Davis
    Round 9: 10-9 Davis
    Round 10: 10-9 Davis
    Round 11: 10-9 Davis
    Round 12: 10-9 Davis

Total: 114-114 Draw (actual scores: 114-113, 115-113 and 118-112 all for Davis)

Can't remember if I ever saw this back in the day but it was well worth seeing after hearing some chatter that Fernandez was robbed. Indeed, this was no rout as Fernandez went on the attack against the fleet-footed Davis and really controlled the first half of the fight before Davis got off his bike and started fighting back in the second half. For two fighters that really never overwhelmed the audience with excitement, it wasn't a bad fight at all.

Y'know, all these years, I've seen some highlights but never watched this right through. Well, today's the day.

Muhammad Ali v Bob Foster (5-point must in effect)

    Round 1: 5-4 Ali
    Round 2: 5-4 Ali
    Round 3: 5-5 Even
    Round 4: 5-4 Foster
    Round 5: 5-0 Ali (scores 4 knockdowns)
    Round 6: 5-4 Ali
    Round 7: 5-2 Ali (scores 2 knockdowns)
    Round 8: Ali KO's Foster

Total through 7 completed rounds: 34-24 Ali (actual scores: 34-28, 35-27 and another 35-27 all for Ali)

The judges seemed in synch with one another, so I don't know how Nevada rules scored for those multiple knockdowns in a round. I scored it as one would on the 10-point system. The winner of a round and a point for a knockdown. Ali really clowned in the 3rd and 4th, which cost him on my card, but that was part of the Ali shtick in that 70s era. It was pretty clear he could have taken Foster when he wanted, but the clowning cost him a first ever cut. Anyways, nothing earth-shattering here other than wanting to see it in its entirety.

Marvin Hagler v John 'The Beast' Mugabi (middleweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Mugabi
    Round 2: 10-9 Mugabi
    Round 3: 10-9 Hagler
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Hagler
Round 6: 10-9 Hagler (Best round)
Round 7: 9-9 Even (Hagler's round but point deducted for a low blow)
    Round 8: 10-9 Hagler
    Round 9: 10-10 Even
    Round 10: 10-9 Hagler
    Round 11: Hagler KOs Mugabi

Total through 10 completed rounds: 97-94 Hagler (actual scores: 97-94, 97-94 and 96-95 all with Hagler leading)

Although seeing this before, I never scored it. The last time I saw any of this was when @Saintpat was conducting his 'greatest rounds' thread and we all got to enjoy the 6th round of this contest. But a tremendous fight overall for pure action.

Gene Fullmer v Carmen Basilio I (vacant middleweight title)

I've always loved Carmen Basilio, but always felt he should have remained at welterweight. He was always a small middleweight. I know they chased the money and middleweight was where it was at, but he was outgunned here by a fighter that made physicality such a weapon. I have to give plaudits to Fullmer here. He really fought such a smart fight allowing Carmen to be the aggressor and countering off the ropes or leaping in when the moment was ripe. Won't run a card here because I only gave Carmen a share of rounds 1 and 6. The rest to Gene for a score of 130-119 through 13 completed rounds before the ref (or Carmen's corner) stopped the fight after he was stunned badly in the 14th (actual scores: 128-119, 125-121 and 129-121 all with Fullmer leading).
