The 'what fights did you watch today?' thread

BHop V Tito, this morning. Another masterclass from Hopkins

 

Watched Curry v Honeyghan the other day for the 1st time in a long time.
Curry just couldn't handle Lloyds rough style and basically quit using a cut as an excuse.
Both fighters were 25-0 and Honeyghan was Currys mandatory. Outstanding performance by a Brit abroad.
Also watched Benn v Eubank I with all the build up and hype.
I remember someone on here taking the **** when I suggested Jonathon Ross was a boxing fan. Low and behold, Ross pops up hosting a talk show with both fighters just before the 2nd fight. And yes, he knows what he's talking about.
Going to watch the 2nd fight later and probably the Top Rank PPV which people are raving about.

 

Bernard Hopkins vs Tito Trinidad - Clinic from B-Hop. Great performance and great finish.

Somsak Sithchatchawal vs Mahyar Monshipour - FOTY 2006. Great blood and guts brawl.

Edwin Valero vs Hector Velasquez - Valero in against another overmatched opponent. Not all that impressed tbh.

 

Just watched the 1st MAB/EM fight again, close indeed, just a few rounds that could have gone either way, anyway here's how i saw it:

It ended up with 115/114 for MAB for me but just tweek the rounds 4/8/9 & it's Eric's win, the Glen McCrory commentary & scoring was the as per usual CRAP, he had MAB pissing it by 4 clear rounds

I was shocked at how frail Eric looked, he was like a walking corpse, must have been a nightmare for him to hit the weight. I'll watch the 2nd one this afternoon:smoke

 

Thought Valero didn't look really good.

Except his obvious raw power he doesn't have much going for him.He's reckless,chin up in the air,doesn't fire combos,hands down,throws a lot of clubbering punches that take away some sting,no footwork,easy to time coming in,smothers his own work,etc.

Agreed. Ridiculously overrated by some. When he steps up he'll be beaten by the top guys in the division I think.

 

First man to take his punches could very well beat him.

Marquez would do a counterpunching masterclass on him,me thinks Soto is the man to take his power and overpower him.

Katsidis could also due it if he doesn't get stopped on cuts.

 

Read my mind. That's exactly the guy I was thinking could very well take his onslaught and give it back. JMM would take his arse to school!!

I'm wondering how Antonio DeMarco will do against him? Never seen him fight. Could be sooner than we think.

 

Yep i agree. Valero will get beat soon in my opinion. Once he steps up to the top level against World Class guys like Soto. Plus if i was in the opposing corner i'd be interested in how he wraps his hands. Since Margo incident i'm always intrigued about guys who bang as hard as him.

 

That's the bad part considering his nuthuggers.I think he''ll KO DeMarco or at least has great chances to.

The Mexican ain't hard to find and at time does not fight tall.First few times I seen him he showed flaws himself.
Did improve in his last one IMO with Alfaro but I don't know.I just think a come forward awkward guy like Valero will clubber him before DeMarco can establish a jab.

 

I am also going to watch MAB v Morales today, ****ing brilliant, boxing is one of the very few sports you can watch classic fights over again, I would never go back and watch a random classic football match, brilliant stuff!

I've watched the Marquez vs Vazquez trilogy.....

The first two fights really are underrated classics, though the 3rd is the best of all.

Not sure how Vazquez was still standing in the fight though, he took a right hiding!
