Victor Galindez v Len Hutchins - Title winning fight for Galindez, it was highlights for Argentine TV though and I reckon they omitted any good Hutchins moments but Galindezs attacks were vicious....knocked Hutchins down 4 times I think before he couldnt take no more and Hutchins failed to come out for the 14th....some vicious hooks from both sides in this one :good

Rafael Marquez v Mark Johnson I + II - Top performance in the 1st fight for 2 sharp IMO! He deserved to get the decision, outboxed Rafa for long periods in that fight and considering age and the jump up in weight he did great...I scored it 95-94 to Johnson (2 points were taken from Johnson and 1 from Rafa)......Weird rematch in the sense that when Johnson tried to outbox Rafa he had more trouble! Rafa began to dominate from Rd.6 and just took him apart.

Also watched Ricardo Lopez v Kimio Hirano (total mismatch) and Donald Curry v Nino LaRocca which included some lovely counterpunching from Curry, LaRocca didnt look a bad fighter though

Amazing Era for LHWs......amount of good fights in that time is insane! Will watch the second Lopez fight soon :good Loving Galindez as a fighter so far...just downloaded Galindez-Kates I which I read is a good-un so will watch that next :happy

As is Saad (my fave from that era and the best from those years bar Spinks, who came after Saads prime) vs Kates, which I ain't watched for a while butthat I apparently own :happy

awesome fight with some HEAVY kd's. Kates would clean up today, as would the other nearly man Yaqui Lopez.

    Duran-Leonard II

This was shaping up to be one of the best ever fights, not in an all out war sense like their first fight but in a style clash.

Leonard was getting the better of the fight but Duran was doing well in every rd except rd 7 were SRL kinda embarrassed him.... the suprising thing about Duran quitting in the next rd was that Leonard never showboated once, he was slightly getting the better of the argument but not outright dominating.

For my money.... Duran did not look out of shape at all physically but I dont think he was right at his peak mentally like in Montreal, Leonard just fought his fight this time & that beats any version of Duran.

2 of my all time fav`s & 2 of the top 10 p4p best fighters that ever lived going at it in their primes, splitting fights 1-1... this hardly ever happens in boxing history.

Fight 2 is very underrated because of the `No Mas` thing IMO.

We need more parity in the HW division and one of the only ways I know how to accomplish that is bringing back the 15 round fight. I completely understand the reasoning behind Boxing adopting the 12 round max, but grown men over 200lbs need a marathon format. 15 rounds would get us back to fighters like Fast Eddie being able to work the stamina, skills and speed over these giants. But in 12 rounds it's too much of a sprint and easier on these skilled 6'7" giants to horizontally park their suv and take up 2 spots!

Just watched Victor Galindez-Richie Kates I :D It was a brutal fight, great to watch....
It was a great performance by Galindez as he suffered a horrendous cut in the third round by an accidental butt....yet it didnt deter him in the slighest...Fought at a non-stop frenetic pace throughout landing an extreme amount of punishment on Kates with his brilliant hooks on the inside. Kates gave him a few things to think about early on with his strong jab but the strength and power proved to much for the American to handle.

Galindez finished off in great style with 2 quick left hooks that left Kates unable to beat the count. Tremendous heart shown by both fighters, super fight :good

Quote from Galindez after he retired:-
He was killed in his first ever Motor race at the age of 31 :-(
