The 'what fights did you watch today?' thread

Never seen the Juuko or Kirakosyan fights (although I am in the process of getting the Kirakosyan one). Is the Juuko fight a good one?

 

To be honest mate Juuko looks totally shot, gets rocked early on, decent to watch though, Gomez looks good.

Can send you a copy on dvd if you want mate?

Watched Israel Vasquez v Rafael Marquez III with it being 2 years to the day since they went to war at the Home Depot. Goes without saying its an outstanding fight, never tire of watching it.

Marquez boxed well at a distance early on, using his jab to take the first 5 for me but not without taking punishment of his own. A few of the middle rounds were very difficult to score, Vasquez began to get inside as Marquez jab became less effective and once on the inside couldn't miss with the straight right hand.

Had Marquez 1 round up going into the last round, so effectively the knockdown won Izzy the fight IMO. Brilliant fight and a brilliant trilogy, bring on part 4 :bbb

Gatti Ward 1 for the first time! I've been a boxing fan for 6 years as well, just never got round to watching it in it's entirety.

 

You wont get any arguments from me on that one, definitely the best trilogy of my generation. The fourth fight does concern me slightly, you have to wonder just how much those previous three have taken out of them, but hopefully it lives up to all expectations.

Just watched Juan Manuel Marquez v Marco Antonio Barrera. Great fight, the first 6 rounds were technically amongst the best i've seen personally. Two master technicians at work, i had it dead even after 6.

The controversial 7th round changed the course of the fight, Marquez hurt Barrera and clearly won the round, but was dropped by a legitimate Barrera right hand at the end of the round which the referee didn't score. To make matters worse Barrera was (rightly) deducted a point for hitting Marquez while he was down. Marquez then controlled the rest of the fight as MAB tired.

I scored it 115-112 Marquez.

 

Marquez will hammer Vazquez in the 4th fight.

I think it will mirror the 1st fight but more one-sided - Rafa looked quite good against a reasonable opponent last time, whereas Vazquez looked awful and was on the verge of losing against a smaller opponent on a run of KO losses.

It's not a fight I'd like to have seen made, but it makes the best financial sense for the pair of them..... they'd make 5x more in this fight than they would fighting the younger names in the division. They've both paid their dues over and over :deal

 

If in doubt reach for MAB v Morales I it's always great to watch no matter how many times you have seen it...:happy

Ryan Rhodes vs Lee Blundell

A shocker. Blundell was cheating like hell but he rocked Rhodes on more than one occasion. I still felt the ref stopped it too early, because I feel Rhodes could have came back into it (he floored Blundell in the 2nd and I am sure he could have done it again).

Michael Brodie vs Sean Fletcher

Some great bodywork from Brodie in the 2nd to stop Fletcher. On a side note, it took JMM 7 rounds to stop Fletcher :yep
