The 'what fights did you watch today?' thread

Mancini is the boyo, I really do like him. Have all his winning title fights, I think he is underrated.

I have been watching ernesto Marcel fights today and the guy is quality. I am away on holiday for three weeks so wont be able to be on my home computer and upload them to WBVA but when I get back they will be uploaded, I assure you.

 

Matthew Saad Muhammed v John Conteh I

Such a brilliant fight with a great clash of styles. The way Conteh kept MSM at bay basically one handed throughout most of the fight was a joy to watch. His jab is easily among the best a British fighter has ever had.

Than MSM turned the fight and in the 14th round he punished Conteh, almost putting him down for the count...Particularly impressive considering he hadnt even completed 12 rounds before :scaredas:

I had it 145-140 to MSM...could have been slightly closer or slightly wider IMO. Would have loved to have seen Conteh from 74/75 take on MSM....would have beat him if he had complete freedom with his right hand, landed a couple brutal rights in this fight.

Fiat Arslan v Steve Herelius

Caught this on Universums Youtube channel which is brilliant by the way. This fight only happened a few days ago but it was up straight away with English commentary!

It was a decent fight with some good momentum changes. Herelius is a awkward little Southpaw who gets success with his flicky little jab and clubbing shots...hes not too skilled but for this old version of Arslan it proved too much.

Herelius took the early part of the fight against the rusty German but Arslan came back strong to nearly KD Herelius in the 8th or 9th round (can't remember)...Arslan retired at the end of the 11th and looked completely out of it. I think he went to hospital for dehydration (Arena looked dreadfully hot)

What do you think of the way Saad's cut was dealt with?

 

Spot on analysis.....it was slightly better from ringside :good

 

The version I have doesn't have the inbetween rounds which is annoying but whatever substance was used certainly worked well...It didn't seem the cut would hold up for the duration of the fight.

Wasn't there something about the substance getting on MSM gloves? Conteh was certainly blinking like a madman for periods during the fight.

 

From memory the stuff they used was like a cement and had to be surgically removed afterwards.

Hagler vs William ''Caveman'' Lee-Blink and you miss it. Caveman started with intent. Looked to back Hagler up but as they jockeyed for centre ring he was caught up a stiff right jab and was dropped two shots later. Hagler then set about him and left Caveman lying on knees infront of a onlooking Hearns and Steward (in Caveman's corner)

Hagler vs Duran-I had Hagler winning by a good few points and so did Larry Merchant. The fight was tight till the 6th round and Hagler turned the heat up and Duran got visibly tired and lost his way till later in the fight when he marked Hagler and had some late success. Hagler's hard body shots hurt Duran and Duran was on last legs towards end.

Jamie Cox vs Michael Grant (am)
Good fight, Cox came on strongly in the 3rd round and really hurt Grant on the ropes. Clawed back a 5 point deficit by the start of the 4th, but Grant threw some classy punches on the back foot to take a close decision.

Frankie Gavin vs Steve Turner (am)
Turner scored 2 points, and the computer system was accurate in this case. Basically says it all. Gavin a class above.

James DeGale vs Steve Mullings (am)
DeGale wasn't great, but did some decent work in the last round to take a clear enough decision.

David Price vs Damian Campbell (am)
Price completely took apart the recently turned pro Campbell. Got stunned briefly though, and had to settle for a points win.

Nathan Cleverly vs Joey Vegas
Erm....I actually scored this one to Vegas. Lots of close rounds, but I gave it to him by 1 point (4-3-1) - Clev won the 1st and last two rounds on my card. He was also stunned by Vegas in one of the middle rounds. But a great learning fight for him, and I really can't complain if someone scores it to Clev by a couple of points.

Tony Bellew vs Adam Wilcox
Wilcox gave it a go, but Bellew was way too classy for him. Got into motion over the first two rounds, then really let off some classy punches in the 3rd (especially uppercuts to the head and body) to cause the ref to stop the fight, with Wilcox on wobbly legs.

 

sounds like the stuff freddie brown used in marciano's cut against charles and he had to cut it out in the dressing room cause it hardened like cement
