Been slowly, and surely, making my way through the Arturo Gatti career set I bought the month before last. Last night I watched the Joe Hutchinson and Oscar De La Hoya fights... Vs Hutchinson: What a dirty fight that was! Gatti clearly won (I had him 7 up at the end) but, in typical fashion, it was a very enjoyable fight to watch. Gatti turned up and went straight into his street-brawler mode. That said, he could have been stopped on cuts with a different referee/doctor. vs De La Hoya: I think people forget that De La Hoya packed a punch. Most people accept that he was a classy boxer but I think the way he completely beat Gatti up in a way that no-one else really did, shows that there was definitly power there. Gatti was never really in the fight despite landing a couple of big shots and the difference in class was painfully obvious.
I started to watch that the other night. Mrs Lee Mc was watching Big Brother so I thought I'd get myself ready for Saturday night as well... I fell asleep :-(
Karmazin by 5 could have been more to be honest depends how generous you were, shame for him as he's no longer a young man
Just to butt in, I had it a draw or one point to Slyvester cant remember which. Thought Slyvester's efficeny, workrate and accuracy all contributed in him overtaking a very lazy Karmazin and I thought Slyvester had the bigger rounds by far, the tenth and eleventh from meory were all Slyvester. I'll tell you what though, Slyvester's idea of creativity is to throw a right hand to the body, one of the most unimaginative fighters ever. And it was a cracking chess match IMO.
Just watched Foreman v Lyle and began watching Leonard v Hearns 1 and then my son woke up with the chicken pox 3 rounds in.
Marquez-Diaz 1 - had to be done really :yep Dmitry Pirog - Sergei Melis Bit of a scouting mission ahead of tomorrow night
whats your thoughts on Pirog Johna?? :think Will he shatter the Golden Boy Jacobs dream or Fall Short?
Very good defensively mate, likes the shoulder roll and seems quite hard to hit clean. Different to alot of conventional Europeans offensively as well, bends his knees and digs to the body rather than staying in the typical upright stance, throws some decent little combinations from different angles too. I was quite impressed, seems very solid and does everything decent rather than anything great. I think it'll be a very close, competitive fight but i think Jacobs hand speed will be the difference. He just seems to have that little bit of star potential about him and his grandmother (who raised him) just died last week so he'll have that as added motivation. Plus its a golden boy card so any close decison goes his way doesnt it.
