Julio Cesar Chavez v Roger Mayweather II

Really good showing by Uncle Roger. Kept things pretty even until near the end, but Chavez was just water on stone and eventually wore him down and forced the retirment. The end of Round 7 was hilarious, with both fighters punching away after the bell, and Mayweather's trainer having to jump in and drag Chavez across the ring to his corner. Good fight 7/10

Julio Cesar Chavez v Meldrick Taylor I

Wow! What a fight. Taylor hit Chavez with everything, ****ing everything. But Chavez is a rock, and took it all without hardly blinking. Even so, he was shipping rounds all over the place, and was staring at a wide points defeat going into the 12th. Then the 12th! The 12th! Taylor was tired, Chavez was tired, but Taylor had it in the bag. Then BANG! He's down near the end. He gets up at 5, Richard Steele looks at him, Richard Steele talks to him, but Taylor isn't responding. The fight is waved off with 2 seconds left in the 12th and last, and Julio Cesar Chavez maintains his unbeaten record. 9.5/10

I watched Chavez-Taylor as well, but on youtube, Taylor took some punishment as well. Pissed PURE bloody for 3 days after that fight.

Talk about a fighter getting his prime beaten out of him! Taylor got the wrong advice from his corner that night. He should have peddled from the 9th round.

 

To be fair he could have peddled from the start of round 12 and still been safe. Despite being so knackered, he still found time to do a wobbly-legs clowning act about half way through the last round - could've used that energy to run away from Chavez a bit more.

Both landed some hard shots throughout the 12, but Taylor had the majority share. You could make a case for him winning nearly every round before the 12th (I didn't, but you "could" make the case; he was that dominant).

Great fight.

 

I had Taylor winning every round I think, his face was a mess, don't know why he just didn't stick and move, slip in and out, when he threw combo's I swear I thought he was faster than Leonard, he should have or could have been one of the greats.

Taylor would have ate the competition in today's LWW division. He would be just too damn explosive for them to handle.

 

he would have obliterated the likes of Khan and Alexander without question.

Now fights against Mayweather, Pacquiao, prime Mosley and De La Hoya would have been something.

 

The one I was actually thinking about was prime Kostya Tzsyu. Intriguing one that:think

 

James Toney vs. Roy Jones.

This was the most one sided championship fight between two such talented fighters you'll ever see. Toney had weight problems even back then, but Roy was just a freak. I'm just annoyed a guy with such sound fundamentals lost to a dude pulling gamecock moves. lol

Btw, Floyd punked Roy Jones when he said that check left hook he pancaked Ricky with came from Michigan; bullsh*t that was something uncle Roger learned from Pensacola's finest. And Mayweather's shoulder roll followed by the uppercut from the turn was signature Lights Out! Little Floyd was a copycat, but there's no shame in that. I'm still waiting for a fighter to copy Tyson's 1-2 signature with right to the body followed by right uppercut. lol

 

Caught the HBO version of Hamed-Bungu for the first time. The commentators timing with Nazs fights is unbelievable. In the Kelley fight they were talking about "Hameds supposed power", wondering when it was gonna show just as a boomin straight right lands. In this one Merchant mentions the theory that Naz is less inclined to commit since the Kelley scrap and this could be a reason why he wasnt stopping his recent opponent...A brilliant left through the guard flattens Bungu

His last good performance against a very decent fighter.

Tito vs. Vargas.

I love this fight, how i miss Trinidad. His out of the pocket left hooks and baby uppercuts were incredible. Vargas had great heart, but i always thought he had it too much too soon in terms of who they put him in with, this fight basically ruined him.

The game is missing characters like these two. Vargas had tigers in his mansion by his early 20's. lol
