Julio Cesar Chavez v Frankie Randall I

Julio finally losses (officially). Great fight from Randall, he brought everything. Chavez got off to a slow start, as per usual, and it didn't help later on that he got two points deductions for low blows (well deserved) and was knocked down for the first time in his career (a peach of a right hand, straight through the guard in the 11th). Very good fight. 8/10

Julio Cesar Chavez v Osacr De La Hoya II

Poor Chavez was on a hiding to nothing here, but still gave a good account of himself. Oscar looked massive in comparison to Chavez, but Julio was still able to nick a few rounds when Oscar neglected his jab. Not the best of endings, but a decent scrap while it lasted. 6/10

Jermain Taylor vs Winky Wright (115-116)

 

D-MAC, does Frankie Randall ever remind you of Mickeal Watson? Anyway he just had Chavez's number, brillient performance in both fights. He amazingly could've and perhaps should've put Chavez away in the second fight.

 

Never thought about it, but yeah there is a certain stylistic similarity there.

Tomasz Adamek vs Michael Grant

 

Alexis Arguello v Cornelius Boza Edwards

Boza Edwards comes in as a late sub for a non-title affair. He makes a really good showing, snapping Arguello's head back on a few occasions. But Arguello is the master, is a bit more saavy in the defence department, and outlands Boza when it comes to hurtful punches. Boza is reeling by the end of the 8th and his corner pull him out, saving him to fight another day. Good fight. 7.5/10

 

Its a epic fight, i like when George Foreman thought Holyfield was going to die.........and when he just went quite and decided not to comment on the fight.

Emotional ****..

Been reading the Adamek sense of humour thread in the lounge, and its inspired me to watch one of his fights.

Cotto vs. Gomez

I don't expect a casual fan to digested what i'm about to say, but Cotto prolonged a beating to Gomez by actually retreating when he had the guaranteed finish in the second, third etc. He toyed with poor little Alfonso to the point where I thought I was witnessing Ali telling Terrell, "What's my name"? Now that beatdown was the textbook definition of stringing an opponent on so that you can (almost literally) take a man's heart with humiliation. Not saying I condone that, but this aint tennis either!
