Pacquiao vs. De La Hoya.

Nothing much else to say about this, but why didn't the WBC strip Pacquaio of the lightweight strap for showing them up and moving to 147 for a screenplay fight with no belt on the line? Or did Pacquiao carry so much political weight that he could basically do whatever the f$%# he wanted with no repercussions? I understand the "$35M" reasons why Manny was doing this, but I also saw it as a slap in the face for the entire 135 lb division which was arguably the most stacked in boxing at the time. Thanx GoldenGirl Promotions!

Just watched Michael Watson v Mike McCallum...:yep

 

Was a bit naive of me wasn't it? Thankfully the cross dresser got his ass handed to him.

 

NO MAS, That whole period was awesome, I remember how when McCallum got outboxed by Kalambay he realised he needed to be more active and change his approach a bit...hope for Chad perhaps?

 

Rigondeaux vs Beranza - Nice little warm up fight for Rigo with a durable enough opponent.

Hernandez vs Terry - One round blow out for Hernandez. Did Terry stay down too easily? Was certainly hurt by body shots earlier in the round though (was floored by a head shot).

Garcia vs Gonzalez - Certainly didn't see this one as a draw (thought Garcia won it pretty comfortably), but Gonzalez has/had a great chin (might be had now as he took so many flush shots :yep). Neither going anywhere, but a fun little 6 rounder.

Lee vs Thiam - :verysad

Luis Garcia vs Sipos - Garcia looked decent, if not spectacular (due to the opponent, more so than himself), against a very durable fighter.

It was great time for British Boxing, I am really glad I was at a decent age in the late 80's to have been able to appreciate them fights on the box in the boozer with my mates... I just didn't have the money back then to get to the live shows...:yep

 

Just watched a DeLa Hoya amateur fight when he was 16, against a guy called Robinson.

I'm about to watch Mickael Nunn v. IceMan Scully.

If anyone remembers this was the fight that re-established Second two Nunn's career in a higher weight class at 168. He showed that he could still box going backwards and recover quickly from shots at 168 which was lacking late in that middleweight fight with Lights Out. Jackhammer jab, freakish reach, and oh yeah that left hand...damn I miss his style! He deserves HOF status despite his drug trafficking and prison stint. (I maybe a bit biased though)

Btw does Chunky Degale remind anyone of Nunn a little bit?


Marquez vs. Casamayor.

The things Casamayor normally gets away with didn't work in this fight because of the boxing savvy of JMM. Although Casamayor looked good with left hand counters and leads early on, JMM being the technician he is patiently waited his turn. I loved these type of chess matches its the way the sport is suppose to be.
