What got me is why the f*** he decided to fight Clottey at 146 - that's 146 of ring weight which was only 3 lbs up from his step scales at 143. Unbelievable; I'm gonna face this new age welter freaks at 14 pounds less of bell sounding weight?? Man, get in the gym and do some 65 lb flies Mr. Super Judah...but I digress, he did box Money Mayweather's ass off for 6 rounds after the chicken dance embarrassment to Kotsya. Frustrating isn't it, IDK meng - this guy could've been the second Sweet Pea!! not.

Anybody think he can make some noise down at 140? At least he adds even more depth to a loaded division, right? I wouldn't mind seeing him against Khan actually or even Maidana.

 

I don't think Zab has anything left to offer at the highest level. He will most likely become a gate keeper for the division, although he has the ability to cause a few upsets

Hopkins vs Taylor 1 (115-114)

 

Miranda Pavlik decent little fight. Miranda has a quality resume and a lot of heart.

 

He's also the poster boy for what i call 'anti-science', was waaay overated by HBO when they compared him to and said he was the next Julian Jackson.

A nice back story but didn't warrant all the hype. He's got heart though i'll give him that, just not my type.

His resume is ****. He's list every time he's stepped up, his only claim to fame is giving Pavlik a hard fight, not putting away a guy who's jaw was hanging out of his face, and sparking guys outside the top ten.

A decent fighter with a big whack, but very strange you brought his resume up as a strong point. He has fought some very good fighters though.

 

McCallum realised before, Kalambay was just too good IMO.

Thing is, McCallum had been troubled by slow starts before, forced into action by Jackson and being soundly outmanouvered by Curry until he got his timing down (and what a shot that was :yep)

Difference being, losing to one of the greatest defensive technicians of all time and losing to Pascal is something different IMO.

I hope Pascal proves me wrong and goes on to establish him further:good

In short, I think it took McCallum a few lessons to get it right. In today's climate, if Dawson needs another fight to learn he might not regain any semblance as one of 'the Elite'.

Hopefully he bounces back, a rematch would cement Pascal as the superior fighter IMO :yep :good

I know he has not won all his fights but has mixed in some very elite level opposition. For someone of his limited ability to get as far as he has he has done well. Hes made a lot of money and really got himself a much better life.

I think i'm right in saying he increased his output noticeabily after the Kalambay fight, that was somewhat of a watershed moment for him. I don't know how i can validate it but i seem to remember Mike being much more active afterwards.

 

Hopkins vs. Pavlik

A masterpiece! Hopkins is the master of taking fighters out of their element and taking away their best weapon (which is why we can't discount him against someone like pascal even at this stage) just ask Winky Wright...Bernard had the most accurate jabber in boxing throwing wild haymakers from two feet away. He really should've KO'd Pavlik though and would've done had he been a bit younger.

I should've known he had something up his sleeve because i seem to remember Bernard being unusually quiet leading up to this fight, i noted this from about 2 weeks from the bell sounding, lol The only time I recall Hopkins being that calm was before the Tarver fight...well kind of...and we all saw Ex take the former coke addict to school and drove him back on the short bus. He must've known with Kelly agreeing to a catch weight 10 lbs north, this would be another after school special in the making.

I say this because Hopkins is never quiet when he's concerned or not comfortable, he was mouthing off against Calzaghe to try and get some sort of mental edge, because he knew Joe C Wales was bringing something he couldn't deal with.

Everyone who posts in this thread needs to understand one thing about my SWOT analysis when I draw comparisons. No matter what subject we're on, I always try and make Flea come full circle to Michael "Second To" Nunn or Mike 'Bodysnatcher' McCallum. As Flea was writing McCallum's name in reply to me, he probably had the biggest smile on his face because he knew where I was going with this when I even threw out Sumbu's name, lol! Just an inside joke between me and 'Iron chin' Flea.
