The 'what fights did you watch today?' thread

just finished watching de gales last outing which i missed on saturday as i didnt realise the card started at fricking 6pm in the evening

very poor showing from dilks, got absolutely massacred. Fight should never of been stopped though

 

Is it me or are more and more young fighters employing a contraband version of Mayweathers shoulder roll? I've seen Degale, Cleverly and Bellew all try it. The problem is they don't know how to counter off it or transition it to offense, It's not really a brillient defensive tool either for them because they seem to think just giving a shoulder rock away is enough. They square up and the head is still stationary, particularly with Nathan Cleverly.

 

Just finished watching Chisora Sexton again...

Made the bill for me, so refreshing to see heavyweights in decent condition, participating in a close fight.

What a finish and the 6th round was equally as impressive. Del boy also showed a lot of class after the fight.

 

de gale actually looks alright with it

its hard to counter but never impossible, barrera took it away from naz completely by just not giving him the room to do so

 

He doesn't look too bad doing it at the moment, but it has more to do with the level of opposition. If you notice there's no follow up after he makes the guy miss and his head is in the wrong position. I think he'll have problems when he steps up the comp. especially when he faces combination punchers. He might make them miss the first shot but the second and third will definitely catch him because he waits for you to finish and doesn't pick the spots to counter.

Take a look also at James' lead foot - he rarely puts it on the outside of conventional fighters. This would help him drop the straight left and land it more effectively/consistently. If he could perfect that left down the pipe it would be great as it's pretty hard to avoid when its delivered with precision from the southpaw stance.

 

Duran was a master. He doesn't get credit for his subtlety. The amazing thing about Roberto was, for someone so ferocious how he had defence and offence in mind at the same time and performed it almost simultaneously. Sign of a true ATG!

It's something that gives him an edge in fantasy match ups with the likes of Chavez.

It was amazing how long Medina lasted in their bout. A real ballsy performance. The Thompson and Robertson fights were both very good performances from Duran.

The DeJesus fight was close but the right man definitely won. Duran looked a little bit sluggish, his feet seemed heavier than normal and he didn't box as well as he could have. DeJesus on the other hand weathered a few rough spells to put in the bes performance of his career. He maintained his composure throughout, even after he had knocked Duran down and when he shook him in the 4th. His left hook was sharp and accurate and went a long way to winning him the fight.

 

Great fight and trilogy. :good

It's really a shame the way the second fight ended and Rubens streak had to go in that fashion.
