A little bit of Cory Spinks highlights. I've always liked Cory's style, but i think he dined out on his last name.

One thing i didn't like as well was his loyalty to Don King. I could understand it though as King has been earning on that Spinks name for 3 decades. C-Stinks from the St. Lou was alway's DK's boy - he was the first headliner on Don King's live streaming site if you all remember. And you knew DK was gonna move mountains to get all "9 Lives" out of Cory. Shout out to the other "9 Life" fighters like Zab and Mayorga.

 

I've watched Taylor vs Chavez I, for about the 1000th time.

It's a lot closer than the HBO commentary would lead you to believe (6-4-1 for Taylor on my card) and Steele did exactly the right thing by stopping it, whether there was about five seconds left or not.

Taylor was clearly minus his legs as he stumbled twice getting to his feet and couldn't recall the series of events in the post fight interview.

He already sounds a bit punchy to me :think

 

Klitschko vs Lewis, for the first time. I was suprised how effective Vitali was. I think he would have stopped Vitali if he was allowed to fight on a few rounds more. He has Lewis hurt on a few occasions. Although the cuts were bad, i've seen worse ones be allowed to continue.

 

Pacquiao-Morales 1, 2 & 3

got Pavlik-Taylor 1, Lewis-Holyfield 2, Margarito-Cintron 1 & 2 recorded.

 

The only round I've seen is the 11th...... Dawson had a few chances to get Pascal out of there - I think on one (or maybe two) occasions the referee was eyeing Pascal up too with a view to jumping in.

On each occasion I think Pascal threw back just in time :yep

Dawson just didn't fancy it in the earlier rounds and couldn't cope with Pascal's unorthodox combinations..... or didn't want to try and cope.

I'd shove money on Pascal in a rematch, just don't think Dawson has it in him to beat young, hungry fighters with a point to prove.

 

I saw Pavlik / Martinez today. It wasnt such a one sided beating as they say - When Pavlik changed his style in the middle rounds he had some good sucess - but it may not of been a one sided beating, but it was a beating.

 

Yesterday I watched:

Jon Thaxton vs Emmanuel Augustus (or Burton back then): Thaxton was winning the fight on work rate more than anything, but he tried to blast Augustus out (hardly anyone knowing at this time, at least over here, that Augustus was very durable and defensively sound) and blew his load - some of his swinging hooks would have had Slip shaking his head in disbelief yep). Augustus then took advantage of a tired Thaxton, caught him with some good shots and didn't let up until the ref jumped in.

Shea Neary vs Andy Holligan: Massive fight in Liverpool and it didn't disappoint. Great inside battle between the two and round 6 was particularly memorable.

Herbie Hide vs Willi Fischer: Fischer with a peek-a-boo style stayed out of danger in the 1st, but he was quickly undone by some big punches that got through the guard in the 2nd round.

 

Ward-Gatti I again. Trying to find HBO versions of II & III, I've only got BBC versions.

 

I watched these two yesterday as well. Wasn't particularly impressed by Matthysse. I thought he looked far too easy to hit against Vivian Harris and if Zab has the right mentality and focus for the full 12 rounds then he should comfortably outpoint him. Can't see Judah getting the stoppage.

Today I've been watching most of Juanma's fights ahead of this weekend's big one with Rafael Marquez. Lopez always impresses me but I still can't believe the punishment that Penalosa took and was willing to continue to take whilst still being able to throw some decent punches back. It's an interesting fight against Marquez though because it's another step up. Lopez is so exciting that he's inevitably gonna get caught a fair bit in his fights. I reckon we'll see a boxing clinic and his best performance to date from Juanma on Saturday though.

Later I'm gonna try and catch up on the Vazquez-Marquez trilogy (plus the 4th one..) again.

 

I scored the 11th 10-8 to Dawson, I had that bout a draw.

 

Whitaker vs Jones

A Whitaker fight I'd never watched before. Great fight to watch, the boxing from Pernell was brilliant. Must have been awful for Jones to try to hit such an elusive target for 12 rounds, I think at then end of round 10 they showed the punch stats and he had only a 20% connect ratio.

Jorge Arce vs Michael Carbajal

Great scrap, poor aul Arce though, I really have a soft spot for him as a fighter, he's such a warrior. Great heart from Carbajal as well though, kept battling away and was landing some big shots throughout.
