The 'what fights did you watch today?' thread

I had Morales 3 up in the 1st fight & gave the last round a 10/10 & what a ****in round that was. Eric was the clear winner here on this occasion IMO, what he did was just more eye catching but what a brilliant fight from both of these legends

 

I didn't score the last round for Morales, read the post again I was saying the 12th was epic!!

Tony Thompson vs Paul Marinaccio
Zsolt Erdei vs Samson Onyango
Fernando Guerrero vs Saul Duran

I liked the look of Ali and Guerrero, but I thought Broner looked really good (although their level of opposition in these fights was not the best to judge them on). Easy night's work for Erdei and Thompson. Onyango was surprisingly durable considering Cleverly took him out in a round, although if Erdei stepped on it he could have got the stoppage. Erdei had good support in America as well. The less said about Thompson's opponent the better...

I could be excused for watching Edrei, with me being 1/4 Hungarian and him being arguably the greatest professional Hungarian boxer of all time oops, but there's no excuses for the Thomspon fight :yep

But, they were just all on the same DVD :good

I feel sorry for any Williams fans that went to that. They got to see their man destroyed in 2 and had that undercard to fall back on. :tired

 

Ryo Miyazaki v Junichi Ebisuoka - First I've seen of Miyazaki, interesting prospect. Thought it was a great performance from him, hes a good counter puncher with fast reflexes, looks very strong for 108, legs like tree trunks for the weight and he has a decent bit of power behind him. He picked his shots well in this fight, didn't waste a lot but I don't like the way he keeps his hands down all the time, a better fighter would have taken advantage of that. Stoppage was a bit early but he's one to keep an eye on for sure.

Giovanni Segura v Ivan Calderon - One of my favourite fights of the year and still a solid contender for FOTY IMO. Calderon looked beautiful at times in the first few rounds, effortless movement with fast counters making Segura miss by miles, if he was still in his prime he would have dealt with Segura I reckon, his legs weren't there for him and he had to stand his ground and trade. Terrific fight :good

Jorge Arce v Adolfo Ramos - Fight from last weekend. Arce is up at 122 now. Easily stopped his overmatched opponent in the 1st. Caught him with a great right with dropped him then finished him in the corner. He'll still be capable of a war or 2 but he needs to retire.

 

I'm gonna watch Calzaghe vs. Hopkins again. It was almost the reverse of Hopkins vs. Pascal...Calzaghe's performance in that fight is very underrated.

Nah, Joe clearly won it. Calzaghe effectively pressured him and controlled the pace, that fight is the first time i've ever seen Hopkins not wonna be in there and fall apart because of the mental pressure he was under. Calzaghe basically gave him a anxiety attack, he won the numbers game and he always beats Hopkins IMO. Just a nightmare style for Bernard.

 

In my opinion controlling the pace is irrelevant unless you land something of substance. In almost every round Hopkins landed the cleaner, more effective blows. Don't get me wrong, it was a bloody close fight. I scored it 114-113 Hopkins. Just my opinion though.

 

Joe did not 'clearly win it'. I thought Hopkins nicked it the last time I watched it, with clean effective punching, not just mindlessly throwing little tippy taps.
