People forget just how much of a beating Mike took in that fight.

 

Yep, people tend to remember the ''long count'' controversy and think Douglas was lucky to land that uppercut. Which really isnt the case.

 

it was a beating , tyson was a easy target.

Arguello vs. Pryor 1.

What people forget in this fight is that Arguello was actually slightly past his best by the time Pryor got to him, that and the fact that the Hawk was probabily taking something illegal, means it was a great performance by Alexis.

Because Arguello was past prime and was never that nimble on his feet anyway, being the bigger puncher he tried what a great pro would do and he punched with Pryor and tried to catch him with something clean to knock him out. Even though he was losing the rounds due to the Hawks workrate, strength and insane pace, Arguello was getting in some vicious subtle punishment to the head and especially body with whipping right hands to the solar plexes.

Both guys were buzzed but were very adept at hiding it, untill the 14th when Alexis was badly hurt.

Truly great fight between two great fighters. Must watch for every boxing fan.

 

Some of the things Tyson displayed in that fight which came out in most of his career, lends me to think someone like Ali would've had his way with him, especially prime for prime.

P.s- i've got the week off work, totally pissed off my head and i don't even know what i'm posting.

 

Finished watching and scoring Steve Cunningham vs Tomasz Adamek.

I had it 114-144, a draw. Adamek obviously had the advantage with the knockdowns, and won a few of the early rounds, but I felt Cunningham did enough in the late rounds to deserve a draw without a doubt.

However, Cunningham did not impress me much. For a guy with very long arms, a big frame, and strong straight punches, not to mind very good handspeed and underrated power, he fights with possibly the worst gameplans I have ever seen. Adamek was tailor made for him IMO, a bit plodding, short, and therefore very susceptible to Cunninghams long sharp jab and right hands over the top. Yet despite this, Cunningham only threw the jab in spurts, spread his legs so his height advantage was nullified, and continuily backed against the ropes, letting Adamek pressure him and get the better of him. He made a number of amateurish mistakes. Though I do think, with a game plan, and a bit of common sense, Cunningham could beat Adamek without much trouble.

 

Haven't seen that fight in ages, but those were exactly my thoughts when i saw it. Cunningham fought a dumb fight and still the fight could've gone either way. It was there for the taking for Steve.

Leonard vs. Benitez.

I've seen this fight so many times, but i still see something new from Ray Leonard. This is IMO his most underrated fight, it was probabily the smartest fight he fought. Benitez had perhaps the best defensive reflexes ever, he didn't have brillient technique in terms of blocking and rolling, but for pure reflexes Benitez was off the charts.

Leonard was having a hard time finding Benitez because of those brillient defensive reflexes. So he adapted and did something really clever. He realised everything Benitez saw would never hit him, so he started throwing an up jab from his waist instead of high up from his guard or shoulder level. As soon as he did this he started rocking Benitez' head back and knocked him down. This single change probabily won him the fight. Ray Leonard was one of the smartest fighters ever IMO.
