Marquez Vs Katsidis

First time id seen the fight since watching it live on a shitty stream. im not sure bout FOTY but was very entertaining and was, as usua,l a joy to watch Marquez's flowing combinations. Judging on Diaz II i thought Marquez would struggle down the stretch as it looked like he was on the downslide but retain on points. He upped his pace and Katsidis barely threw a punch in the 9th and was a good stoppage by kenny bayliss. i do find that katsidis throws his left hooks abit weird, like he wants to follow it up with the elbow:yep, although im sure thats not the case.

 

What career set should I start watching?

Marvin Hagler?

Meldrick Taylor?
Ken Norton?
Bennie Briscoe?
Salvador Sanchez?

All of them are good, Kos. If i had to pick two it'd be McCallum and Sanchez. Salvador is just incredible to watch, he basically secured his legacy and status by the time he was 23 years old. He's the closest fighter to Ray Robinson i've seen post Robinson, in terms of technique, power and punching form.

 

Hagler.

If there's one former US boxer I'd love to meet and share a beer with, it's him.

Never had anything easy like so many others but still rose to the top and defied anyone that put a block in his way.

The best middleweight of all time too.

 

Montiel-Hasegawa

Impressed with Montiel's punching power on his left hand even though he is an orthodox fighter, tried a few left hooks in the 1st round, showed good head and upper body movement but does look a bit erratic and can jump in and when he misses can end up off balance.

However, I very much doubt Donaire is going to come out and **** about as a southpaw because Montiel will tag him and maybe **** him up badly, plus Donaire is only going into his 2nd Bantamweight fight and I don't think he has the power to stop Montiel.

btw, that **** Lawerence Cole really is poor ref, he was shocking at that stoppage against Hasegawa.

 

Very exciting career, but it's hard to watch Meldrick post Chavez. Maybe it's just me? He was sensational before that though, especially against Buddy McGirt.

 

Had a watch of that McGirt fight last week, sensational performance. Speed and power of his shots were unbelievable at times.

Imagine that Taylor in todays 140 division or against Hatton :scaredas:. Would completely tear them apart with ease.

 

Well, in his post I thought he meant that he had all of them and which he should watch first. In which case Taylor was just kind of a "get the sadness out of the way" suggestion.

 

Not a fight but I watched HBO's Legendary Fights: Tyson vs Douglas. Why did they stop making these? They're very well made and it certainly got me into certain fighters I otherwise wouldn't know too much about(Arguello, Taylor etc). Going to watch the Lewis-Tyson one, got Tyson fever at the moment.

Randomly decided to watch Bowe-Golota I.

The second fight is seen as the real damaging one for Bowe, but damn, he took some really vicious punches in this one and looked ready to go abuot three times. Open to the left, open to the right and Golota's size and guard kept him from getting his right uppercut going. He kept swinging and got Golota with several good whacks of his own, but was taking too much in return.

You can tell after the third corner, in the corner, Bowe has this "oh ****, this is harder than I thought" expression on his face. Golota's low blows seemed more the result of poor technique there and a certain robotic insistance on how he'd throw his shots in combination.

Still think a Lewis fight in '96 would've been better for him, at least provided a clean knockout loss rather than the drawn-out battering from Golota. Bowe could still throw pretty quick, still had the stamina for that impressive busy workrate, showed great spirit and guts, but his reactions were just that fraction slower and his defence was never much cop at the best of times either.

Also watched Lewis - Epps, DQ2. Nothing much to say there except Epps was in really good shape actually, better than most title challengers these days sadly. Tempers were flaring but I thought the ref dq call was bad, premature stuff, should've let it continue on.
