The 'what fights did you watch today?' thread

Have any of you ***s scored Mares - Darchinyan? I gonna watch that fight tonight or tommorow, and I was jsut wondering if you guys had scored it at all?

 

Carl Johanesson vs Michael Gomez

 

Salvador Sanchez Vs Jose Sanchez

Salvador Sanchez Vs Richard Rozelle

 

Had it to Mares by 3 or 4 iirc. Very solid fighter. Darchinyan couldn't get anything going.

 

Gonna watch Alexander-Kotelnik later.

 

Score it as you go, at the end you'll **** breaks.

 

Paul Hodkinson v Marcos Villasana I - Great war. Both fighters standing there ground and swinging like no tomorrow. Villasana has an ATG chin and deserves to be mentioned amongst the very best. Shots he took without flinching in this fight was crazy. Hodkinson was well ahead at the time of the stoppage but his eye was in a terrible mess. Cracking little fighter was Hodkinson.

Shumenov v Joppy - As expected Joppy didn't put up much of a fight. Shumenov didn't need to get out of second gear, dropping with a hard right in the 5th and again in the 6th when it was clear Joppy didn't want anymore. A definite beatable opponent for Clev in the future.

 

Ray Robinson vs. Joey Maxim.

As we all know Ray Robinson was out classing Joey Maxim...I had him up about 10-3 after 13 rounds and the judges also had him up big on the scorecards. He was really fighting a brillient fight and outboxing the light heavyweight champion of the world, on his way to a UD IMO. Important to note as well that Joey Maxim was no ordinary fighter. He was good enough to beat two future heavyweight champions in Jersey Joe Walcott and Floyd Patterson, which not many people know, is a hall of famer and was outweighing Ray by about 16lbs.

It's a shame the only thing that beat him was the heat and he collasped from heat exhaustion. The temperature was about 104 degrees and probabily even worse under the intense ring light, it was under some brutal conditions mahn, that's for sure. The fact that the referee and a few others passed out proves how vicious the conditions were. You can actually see Ray's arm twitching and shaking involuntarily as they take him to his corner...:-(

Incidently, Ray Robinson when he fought Joey Maxim had 135 fights, which gives you an idea of how much wear and tear his body had by that point. He retired for almost three years after this fight aswell and had blisters all over his body. To think this was Ray Robinson’s only stoppage loss over such a long period and that amount of fights is incredible!

McKinney vs. Ncita 1 and II.

Great fights! McKinney is one of those underrated guys who don't get talked about much, the Vince Phillips, Simon Brown, Boza Edwards type. Very exciting fighter and he could've been even better without his drug problems.

 

Just watching Bradley-Cherry again now, Slip. I remember you told me to watch it before, and I did, only I was so pissed at the time I can't remember any of it.

Yeah i do vaguely remember us having a conversation about the "Cherry Bomb" and how i always secretly rooted for him...lol That was the fight that sold me on Bradley and yes he does use his head, in more ways then one.

 

It really does show off what a rounded fighter he is. Round 1 uses the jab, Round 2, uses his legal head movement then counters, Round 3 fights on the back foot, Round 4 goes for the body on the inside...

Pacquiao - Marquez 2

Good fight, more technical than I remember it being, but still a very good fight nonetheless. I had it 115-114 Marquez. I thought he definetely won this. The closest I could give it to Pacquiao is a draw, Marquez dominated the middle rounds and did enough late on to win. He really battered Pacquiao in that 8th round. I had it even going into the last round, and Marquez clearly won that round, so he wins the fight.
