Roman Gonzalez vs Francisco Rosas II

I dont think there is many other fighters in the sport who put shots together better than Gonzalez. He picks his shots well(particularly the left to the body) and you can see a noteable improvement from the first fight. He stayed calm after knocking him down the first time, didn't rush anything and let the shots flow. Which obviously helped, what with him being the first to stop Rosas. I'd love to see Gonzalez and Segura get it on. What a fight that would be, and one I see Gonzalez winning.

Was looking for footage of Nicky Booth so watched his fight against Ste Truscott in an ABA fight which was a good little scap in 1997. Then watched jason Booths fourth fight against Dave Caldwell, you watch it and think how good could he have been if he hadnt had his problems. Was a quailty performance.

    Berto - Collazo

    Scored it for Berto 114-113.

Very good fight, lots of back and forth action, good exchanges, both fighters coming on in spurts. A lot of people thought Collazo deserves the nod in this, the majority do in fact. I don't see it though. The rounds that each fighter won were pretty clear, and Collazo faded badly in some of the middle rounds, barely throwing any punches and gifting Berto rounds. Ledermans scorecard was awful. Rounds which Berto was clearly winning, he was giving to Collazo, and despite Luis only thowing 10/20 punches, he claimed Collazo was 'outworking' Berto. I don't think so......

Close fight. 114-113 either way is the only outcome I can see in this fight, the rounds weren't massively difficult to score, so it was pretty clear who was winning each round.

I'd be in agreement with this. The term 'robbery' is becoming one of the most overused terms in the sport. If a fighter is 'hyped' and doesn't win convincingly it's branded a robbery nowadays.

I hadn't seen the fight, and based on what I had heard on here, I was expecting Collazo to box rings around Berto. The truth was, if Berto had maintained the workrate and accurate power punching he had going on in rounds 6-9, he would have clearly won this fight. Yet for some reason, he slowed down. Maybe it's because he gassed, maybe it's because Collazo got his second wind. Whatever it was, it nearly cost Berto the fight.

Neither fighter impresses me at all to be honest. Both showed flaws in there games. The most blatant thing, to me, was how poor Berto's ring IQ was. He's like Steve Cunningham - He's got all the physical attributes, yet he doesn't seem to be able to use them. I think soon, this will be the start of Andre Berto's downfall.

Collazo reminds me of Clottey in a way, not style-wise, obviously, but based on how they were perceived off the back of fights they were supposed to lose handily but ran their opponents close in. Both went from being underrated to overrated pretty quickly I think.

Berto is a very unintelligent fighter. If he lands a good shot, he'll constantly try to repeat it, and he isn't discreet in doing so. On top of that, he appears to have very little stamina, which makes his more difficult fights very messy with constant clinching.

Couldn't agree more. His over-clinching pointlessly cost him points :)yep) against Collazo. The way he tries to land a big shot of his own after taking a big shot is commendable, but not always a good idea.

Plus he is woefully inaccurate. People describing him as 'slick' is laughable(because he's fast and black?). He's good, but unless the division takes a huge plummet in talent, I can't see him ever being the top man.

    Of all things, Ali-Berbick.

Berbick looked like a total amateur. I know there's a fondness in some quarters for the 'lost division' of 80s fighters, but Berbick on this night was just a windmill puncher, and inaccurate with it too. It certainly wasn't anything Ali did, he was bouncing on his toes and throwing out one-twos, just had zero pop on them at all and seemed just to cover up when Berbick came flailing forward.

Humberto Soto vs Urbano Antillon (116-112)

Excellent action packed fight between 2 warriors. One of 2010's best without a doubt. Both fighters showed tremendous heart, courage and determination in producing an outstanding war. Soto won the fight with his crisper, more accurate shots, but even when landing huge combinations, he could never deter Antillons relentless attack. If Soto has kept up the work-rate and accuracy he displayed in the opening 3/4 rounds, he could have made it a very long night for Antillon, but for some reason Soto slowed down, resulting in the momentum shifting into Antillons favour for the mid rounds. Antillons nonstop agression and walking down of Soto, never willing to step back, allowed him to wear the champion down and win rounds. However, this didn't prove to be enough, and Soto clearly won by a respectable margin.

I thought the official scorecards were a tad generous to Antillon. Urbano's slow start, and point deduction in round 5 for low blows, led to it being a somewhat wide win on the cards for Humberto. Although Antillon's pressure did run the bout close. I saw some on this forum say they had the fight for Antillon. I do not believe this. There is no way that Antillon won this bout. A draw would be extremely generous to Antillon, never mind a win. Soto won clearly and I expect him to do so in the rematch.

This bout helped provide me with a fair analytical conclusion about both fighters. Soto is quick, accurate, and has good footwork - can change direction well. He lands crisp shots and can counter quickly and hard. His variety of punches is also very commendable. He does however seem to fade at times, maybe due to stamina issues, and is susceptible to a sustained body attack. He is also prone to being outworked, due to his taking a break during rounds. Antillon is very agressive, very good at cornering and cutting off the ring, has a wicked body shot (his body shots were so loud I had to turn the speakers on my PC down), and displayed good stamina in this bout. He can fight through adversity too. On the other hand, his defence is poor, in terms of both his head movement and footwork. He is an absolute sucker for an uppercut, Soto was landing that punch at will whenever he threw it. Antillon rarely steps back, and on the occasion he does, it is in a straight line, which allows his opponent an opportunity to land as he is on the back foot. His defensive issues are without a doubt his most blatant flaw.

What is clear from this fight, at least to me, is how good Miguel Acosta's win against Antillon really was. Soto has him wobbled from huge combinations, but he never came close to stopping Urbano. To knock him out takes some doing, and I don't think Miguel gets enough credit for this.
