Cotto Margarito. Margarito still beats Cotto today. Nothing would stop him that night.

 

Sometimes you have no choice but to stand at range as Hearns had unbelievable leverage and you payed for your 'coming in'. The point was that Leonard's lung capacity is the big difference between them, it's why Hearns would never beat Leonard over 15. You could see Ray was getting to him in the second fight too, but ran out of rounds.

 

Probabily the first post of yours i agree with. You're right, i think Margarito beats Cotto in a rematch. The Margarito of the Pacquiao fight anyway. Don't know how much that beating has taken out of him though.

 

Duran-Leonard 2

Didnt want to make a thread on it but there was **** all wrong with Duran in my opinion. Just got sick of Chasing Sugar Ray around for 8 rounds. Leonard threw some brilliant combinations in this fight.

 

Julio Cesar Chavez V Pernell Whitaker.

Better fight than I thought it would be. Had Whitaker winning the fight.

Chavez V Haugen.

Just Chavez beating on Haugen really.

 

That's what most people end up saying after watching a Whitaker fight. Pete wasn't just a defensive genius, he could mix it up too.

Steve Cunningham vs Guillermo Jones.

A good technical fight between 2 excellent Cruiserweights at the top of their games. Cunningham was the young prospect, Jones the hardened veteran. They produced an interesting, though unspectacular, technical fight. I scored it 96-94 Cunningham, but I would not argue with the same score for Jones, or a draw, because it was that kind of fight. Very close, very technical, with either fighter being required to do something emphatic to steal rounds, yet neither (particularly Jones) taking huge risks.

Neither fought a particularly smart fight. Cunningham was squaring himself up too much, and ignoring his excellent reach at range for jabbing opportunity's. Jones would sporadically turn southpaw and try fighting out of that stance to little effect. However, this kept the fight close and interesting, if uneventful. Cunningham did just enough, in spells, to snatch the fight on my card, but he wasn't consistently beating Jones at any point. Although, I suppose it is difficult to establish a rythm when you are 16-0, facing an awkward veteran as big as Guillermo Jones. Although at his physical prime, Cunningham wasn't fully matured, so could be forgiven for not looking amazing.

 

Who agreed for Richard Williams to go in with Martinez for a second time? Absolute madness. Great performance from Maravilla though. I can't remember the exact figures but I think RW was landing about 4 shots on average per round at one point...

 

Does anybody know of a decent quality Mijares-Arce vid? I've watched it a couple of times but the one I have is quite poor.

Julio Cesar Chavez Vs Edwin Rosario.

Just utter domination from Chavez. Straight in on top of Rosario from the first bell. Respect to Rosario for hanging in so long and giving back some good shots of his own.

 

Chavez was his very best in this fight imo, aint seen it in a while tho, may give it a watch later

Yeah he sure was it was a defensive masterclass, Khan could learn alot from watching that fight
