Well, it's your opinion, but that's just how I scored it.

Marlon Starling Vs Don Curry 1

    Starling, aged 24 and 25-0 (16) Curry is aged 21, and 14-0 (11)

Both hot prospects with quality amateur careers, with Curry seen as the favourite due to his highly touted potential. Both top 5 Welters of the time.

Ray Leonard, the no.1 provides commentary ;-)

    Curry: 2; 4; 7; 10; 11; 12

    Starling: 1; 3; 5; 6; 8; 9

    Don Curry 114-114 Marlon Starling

An obvious draw really; Curry outmanouvers Starling in the 10th and 11th, finishing strong and letting his hands go more in the 12th than he has for the whole fight. Starling clearly irks Curry as they go into the 10th, his odd, defensive style and crafty inside work frustrating The Lone Star Cobra, also bothered by a cut lip. But as I say, a strong finish by Curry salvages a draw, though it's c;ear he learned from this fight going into their rematch. Here, he struggles to get the kind of shots off that we all know him for now, though that's hardly surprising against a stylish technician like Starling.

Vid' jumps around a bit, but is definitely watchable. Thanks to HitmanHatton1 for hooking me up and giving me a chance to watch it again :good

Castillo vs Corrales I. I had Castillo a point ahead after nine. Castillo's demise was amazing, especially after two knockdowns. Size difference was massive.

Junior Jones vs Jorge Julio (116-109 Junior Jones)

A fight with lots of momentum shifts, that wasn't overly compelling but managed to remain exciting throughout. Jones started off boxing very well on the outside, with an excellent crisp jab and follow up right hand, he dominated the first 4 as Julio tried to work his way inwards. It changed in round 5, Jones was knocked down, seemingly off balance, but evidently hurt as Julio preceded to land hard right hands in the follow up. Junior came back towards the end of the round with his own hard shots, but it was Julio having the success on the inside and frustrating Jones. The next couple of rounds went Julio's way as he fought a good inside game and took Jones out of his comfort zone, holding and hooking at close range. He began to tire though, and by the 9th, Jones was back in control, dominating with the jab. Julio was dropped in round 11 and seemed badly out of it from some hard Jones right hooks, he scraped through the round but it appeared the momentum of the fight had changed drastically again. Jones dropped Julio again with about 5 seconds to go in the last round with a beauty of a right uppercut, but Julio made it to his feet to finish the round, though quite clearly out of it. It was quite funny actually, as Julio appeared barely able to stand up at the finish, yet flung his hands into the air as the bell went as a victory sign.

    Morales vs Barrera II

115-113 to Morales. More tactical, but still a good fight. Barrera's boxing didn't work and I think that he should have done more brawling, like in the first fight when I had him winning.

Morales vs Barrera III. Brilliant fight. 116-112 to Barrera IMO, who showed that he had the edge in fighting.

Junior Jones vs John Michael Johnson

Junior's first professional defeat, coming in the blistering heat of texas to a man he had beaten in his fourth pro fight, John 'Bam Bam' Johnson. Jones got off to a superb start, and for 3 rounds it looked like Jones was going to school what appeared to be an overmatched opponent. Jones was decisive with the jab, moving and firing it off at Johnsons face with pinpoint accuracy. Johnson seemed content early on with chasing Jones, taking shots and struggling with a low output. Things changed in round 4, Jones began to back off more, he jabbed less and less, and seemed tired. Johnson caught Jones with a peach of a right hand, badly wobbling Jones and knocking him down. It took Junior a while to re-assert himself, but by the time he regained control, he was tired and struggling with Johnson's pressure, which led to him being dropped twice and stopped in round 11, though he contested it. I had Junior with a comfortable lead on the cards going into the round, and Johnson needed a KO to win (he got it).

    Junior Jones vs Orlando Canizales

Arguably the best win of Junior Jones's career (not his best scalp, but performance wise it was superb) against the legend Orlando Canizales. This fight also features one of the worst score cards I have ever witnessed (119-110 Canizales, I had it 118-110 Jones, with the closest I could see it about 117-111). It was an excellent comeback win for Jones, when many were questioning whether he was past his best after 2 knockout losses to 'lesser calibre' fighters. Jones, with Lou Duva in his corner, fought a terrific fight, beating Canizales on the inside and the outside, and regularly pasting the champion with hard shots. Jones hit Orlando with some hellacious bombs in rounds 4 and 8, grabbing his attention, but never hurting him (a true iron chinned fighter, was Canizales) Jones jabbed, moved, and landed combinations up close (particularly with the straight right) to dominate his experienced opponent over the fight and secure his return to the top level of boxing.

Junior Jones vs Marco Antonio Barrera II (116-111 Junior Jones)

The best performance of Jones's career, for me. And against a much better Barrera than he fought in their first bout. The first encounter between the 2 was a war, both came out swinging, and it was Jones who finished standing at the end. Barrera was not about to let the same thing happen again, so smartened up his style going into the rematch. He was a lot more methodical, much more accurate and showed improved defense and timing. He boxed as opposed to slugging, and it nearly paid off. For much of the first hald of the fight, he was the more accurate and precise fighter, outboxing Jones and outlanding him by a wide margin. It looked like he would cruise to a win. However in the second half of the fight Jones picked it up. He stopped trying to box with Barrera and decide to attack and overwhelm him. It worked against the possibly too calm Barrera, who was outlanded massively late on and took some very had right hand shots over the course of the final 6. Jones late rally (aswell as a couple early rounds on the cards) won him the fight on both mine and Ledermans card. He switched up his game to counter Barrera's style and it worked perfectly, a great performance and win for Junior Jones.

    Junior Jones vs Kennedy Mckinney

This fight must have left a really sour taste in Junior Jones mouth. Losing, on his birthday, by KO, against the guy who beat him in the amateurs to take his Olympic place, after battering Kennedy for 3 rounds and nearly stopping him (dropping him in 3). Jones punched himself out trying to get rid of Mckinney after receiving a cut from a headbutt in round 1, and paid the price. He was punched out in round 4, his legs were knackered and the end was inevitable. The end of Jones at the top level of the sport IMO.
