:thumbsup Speaking of Mabere, from watching this fight it's apparent that Joyi must've fought a damn good fight to be the only man to stop Gutierrez(or Sammy G-G-G-Hutti as Finito Lopez and Jhonny Gonzalez are calling him), this guy is as tough as nails reinforced by steel, walks straight through every flush shot.
Juan Palacios Vs Sammy Gutierrez Oh my days, just watch this fight. It's very hard to really give any kind of analysis because almost the whole fight was the two exchanging punches, there was no stats but I'd estimate that they both threw in excess of 1000 punches over the course of the fight, and thanks to porous defenses, an awful lot of them landed. The good thing about Palacios is the ease in which he lets his shots go from long, mid and close range all with equal expertise. The problem for him was though that Sammy wouldn't allow him to throw from the first two distances after a few rounds had passed. Palacios started well, utilising his height and reach advantages by pumping out one-two's and slotting in a straight right to the body whenever Gutierrez dared to lower his guard. The writing was on the wall though, as he couldn't keep the quintessential Mexican off of him, he's a good all-rounder is Juan, but he doesn't really excell in one solitary area aside from his body-punching, which he couldn't even put into practice early as that gave Sammy the opportunities to get inside that he lusted after. Then the next ten or so rounds followed a similar but truely entertaining pattern, the Nicaraguan didn't have the footwork to keep Gutierrez off of him, which initiated exchanges time and time again, with both displaying a great assortment of shots, the Mexican found great success by flinging uppercuts through the middle, Palacios when he pounded and pounded away at the body. Both were pushing each other back in turns, it was almost a perpetual motion, Gutierrez pushes Palacios back with a plethora of flailing shots, Juan pushing him right back with a series of some oddly powerful arm-punches before the round would conclude with both swinging for the fences. Palacios won a close and well-deserved UD in a really enjoyable fight, I'd advise anybody to watch it, not quite the drama of a Marquez-Concepcion, but a very fun fight all the same that contained momentum changes during the rounds. watched toney vs barkley. sweet counter work. :smoke and calzaghe-hops. clear calzaghe win. hopkins in the post fight interview is in cloud cuckoo land. load of nonsense out of his mouth.
Rico Ramos vs Akifumi Shimoda Ramos might be one of the worst title holders in boxing at the moment. Really shite performance, did nothing for 6 and half rounds, then turned it all round with one short, sharp, left hook. Nice KO, but a woeful performance. Rigo would decimate this kid.
I was expecting a masterclass from Shimoda, but really he only did a little bit more than Ramos, who was doing nothing, so he didn't look to great in this fight either. Shimoda is quick, rangy, and has good footwork, but his jab is fairly average, he's innacurate, he isn't a crisp puncher and he doesn't really excel in any area. He was quite a weak champ, but he can clearly box at a level above Rico Ramos, which is quite worrying on Ramos's part. I thought Broner was fairly average (for the hype he gets) but this kid takes it to a new level, he's actually pretty crap!
This content is protected 's ok I suppose, though nothing spectacular. This content is protected s got a cultured jab, which he continuously pops out at you while slowly advancing, and an accurate straight left when he gets into a rhythm. He puts his shots together well and has a humungous head, which he puts to good(albeit illegal) use. His head movement is good for not letting an opponent set but it's poor in terms of enabling him to defend himself. In essence, his defence is pretty bad, and, being a southpaw, he's more vulnerable to the left hook and the right hand. He's on the fringes of the best guys IMO.
I've just watched the Vasquez/Marquez trilogy & the 3rd battle was def one for the ages. Absolutly well worth getting on disc. I'am def going to keep my dual signed poster from this modern day epic. This content is protected Uploaded with ImageShack.us
@jpab19 I doubt Shimoda will win another world title. He was sort of fortunate he beat another weak fighter in Li Lee for it anyway. Nice Vazza/Rafa poster :good
