Just bought both dvds of tyson raw and uncut covering his career up to the bruno fight, ive seen them all but nothing beats a rewatch of a few tyson fights.

Meldrick Taylor vs Buddy McGirt

Only the second time I've watched this fight (first was ages ago). I saw some posts earlier this week from some posters saying that they didn't always label a fight as a 'favourite' upon first viewing, and it normally took 2/3 views of the fight for it to really become a fight they truly appreciate. I think, upon watching Taylor/McGirt again, that this is one of my favourite fights. Although I've got many, many more fights to watch, of the ones I've seen thus far, this one really appeals to me. Best winning performance by Meldrick Taylor IMO (beating the win over Aaron Davis at 147) and a truly excellent showing by the young man. Came in as the underdog, many experts were pipping McGirt to win (some even said he'd be a future great!), but Taylor rose to the challenge and simply battered McGirt for 11 rounds after losing the first. Rounds 5 and 8 (?) were just awful for Buddy, he took a savage beating in each, which loosened him up for a twelth which he spent out on his feet until his corner stopped it. Wonderful performance from 'The Kid' and a great fight to watch.

 

I really must start watching more fights. The internet was cut off there for about a month and have to get back into the habit of it.

I had McGirt winning about 4 rounds in the Taylor fight. I believe he was coming off some kind of injury or sickness as well. Taylor didn't really start dominating until late, and the stoppage was pretty pointless, in my opinion.

I thought Buddy won 3 rounds and had 1 even, with the rest to Taylor. It's not as one sided as the commentators make it out to be. Still, Taylor stands out because of the way he was battering McGirt in some of the rounds, and clearly winning others, whilst the rounds the champion won were fairly close. The stoppage was odd, I don't know why they stopped it when the action had halted, but I really do feel that McGirt was spent and could have been finished off in the last minute by Taylor.

 

Chavez vs Taylor (108-101 at time of stoppage)

3rd time I've seen this. Still cannot believe Meldrick Taylor lost that fight. I thought he dominated the fight until the 10th (which he arguably won) and the only clear Chavez round was the 11th, which was still competitive. The 12th was highly competitive too, and you could even say Taylor was getting the better of Chavez in the final round until the last 30 seconds. I thought Chavez looked beat that night, where was the urgency from him? He almost seemed resigned to losing, not pressuring Taylor nearly as much as he could have in the later rounds.

I know people have differing views regarding the stoppage, but for me, if Steele let's Taylor continue, then he wins no doubt. Chavez wasn't finishing him IMO. And I do think it's become popular to label the fight as non-controversial.

Edit: Though I understand why the fight was stopped, it's Taylor's fault for not answering Steele.

 

Watched Michael Carbajal vs Humberto Gonzalez and Jorge arce vs Hussein Hussein, good fights.

No.

I'm not knocking the stoppage. If a fighter doesn't respond to the referees questions, then he has to be stopped, those are the rules. But I don't think Taylor was out of it, and if he had continued, regardless of what Chavez did, Meldrick would have been saved by the bell and won the fight. Was the stoppage technically correct? Yes. Does that mean you should have to like it? No IMO. **** the rules. If a fighter doesn't say 'yes' then he loses? That's daft.

Chavez wins fair and square, but he can thank technicalities with the rules for it if you ask me.
