Up until recently they were two of the rarest fights out there, not many were willing to trade, but I dl'd them recently.

On Zarate-Zamora; that guy comes in as if to say 'let's make peace' and then gets battered :rofl Always loved that bit, adds to it being the unbelievable crazy shoot out it is.

Zarate was bigger, stronger, and more durable. Zamora the harder pure hitter.

And never saw that question on Zamora; I guess I kinda' answered it above but here's more.

    Pre-zarate (savage)

If you guys don't know, both Zarate and Zamora were in the same gym together (I've got a fight of Zamoras where he's filling in for Zarate, who's got ill backstage). Zamora, an Olympian, and Zarate, established killer, had a beef after Zamoras Dad pulled him out of there citing contractual issues, it all got messy and the two Bantam title holders agreed to fight, in a massive Mexican grudge match, just above the limit.

    Zarate destroyed him.

He was just one of those all or nothing fighters that had a devastating loss at their very best.

Here is a post-Zarate fight that I HIGHLY recommend! WARRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently acquired his brutal slaying of a pre-prime Bantamweight Eusebio Pedroza :good

Dawson Johnson I - close fight not a tough fight to score. Chad by 2. Rounds he won were more clear than Johnsons.

Dawson Johnson II - a clinic from Dawson

Alexander - Matthysee - nice fight very close with the knockdown. alexander outworked matthysee who didn't throw enough in the early rounds.

Zamora actually hit harder than Zarate, I'd say. Among modern day Bantams, I don't know that anyone hit harder than Zamora, actually. While he was almost sorely a banger in offensive terms, certain aspects of his skills get overlooked, such as his footwork. He was great at opening and closing up the distance to get the optimum range on his bombs. Threw very nice punches, too. Same with Zarate, though. All in all, Zarate was just much more organised and aware. Not to mention he had a much stronger beard. Zamora was lacking in that regard, especially post-Zarate.

If you haven't seen that Zamora vs Superfly Sandoval fight that Flea posted I highly recommend it. Great back and forth action. Shows the flaws in that chin, too (which ultimately makes for more exciting drama). I think Superfly had too much heart and machismo for his own good. He had some real skills.

    Agreed.

And yes, Zarate was a far tidier operator. Zamora reminds me of a small Cuevas, but with fast feet to close the distance, rather than aimlessly stalking until opportunities arise.

Very good fighter, but as you said, not very durable. But he had balls.

Did you see: I've got a 2 minute highlight of Borkhorsor-Montana in the post :happy Can't dig up nothing about possible Salavarria fight footage though, this will have to do when it comes to the Thai monster.

Have you seen Furuyama-Muangsurin II with sound? Have only seen it silent, looking to get hold of a copy of it with audio if you know of anyone (don't think RB has it) :good

    Pac-Margarito

First time I had seen the fight and I had assumed from reports that it was basically Pac beating on a corpse. But I thought Marg actually looked pretty good in this fight and I would definitely put it up there as one of Pacs very best performances.

Librado Andrade and Antonio Margarito have similar styles, margarito is a little bit more durable, with a better defense and more athleticism aswell.

Wilfredo Gomez vs Lupe Pintor-What a fight! It would take a better poster than me to describe how good this fight was. One of the greatest fights ive ever seen. Im exhausted just watching it:lol:

On a side note, it was very unusual to see Gomez's corner literally run across the ring, pick him, and carry him back to his corner to preserve his energy after an hellacious 12th round. Dont think ive ever seen that before in a fight:D

Ernesto Marcel vs Alexis Arguello (Didn't score it, felt Arguello won maybe 3-4 rounds, the rest Marcel stormed)

First let me say thanks to Flea Man for hooking me up with this fight (cheers :good)

Secondly let me say what an absolutely brilliant fight it was. To see a contest like this between 2 sublimely skilled fighters such as Marcel and Arguello is very rare, and to watch this fight is a genuine treat. I actually think this might be one of the best fights I'll ever see, such is the skill displayed by each man. It most definitely ranks amongst the best displays of pure skill and ability I have witnessed in a boxing ring. What a performance by Ernesto Marcel though, wow. To come up against a younger, bigger, more powerful and hungry challenger in the form of the great Alexis Arguello, and to leave the ring as a clear winner is just amazing. A sublime display by the Panamanian, who looked every bit the wily, experienced and sublimely skilled veteran fighter he is, as for much of the fight he dominated Alexis and even 'schooled' him (if you can do that to a fighter of Arguello's calibre) at times.

At the start, Ernesto's defence was superb, his head movement on the outside was magnificent and his parrying + blocking on the inside was amongst the best I've ever seen. Rarely do you see a fighter who looks like he knows EXACTLY what he's doing at all times in the ring. Marcel was landing frequently with his lead right hand which seemed to find the mark just about every time he threw it. Even when Arguello landed some shots of his own, Marcel would just as quickly return with a barrage of clean, accurate blows which would consistently knock back the head of the Nicaraguan. Even when Arguello launched his own mid-rounds assault, badly hurting Marcel in the process, the veteran champion hung on, rode the storm and even in rounds he appeared to be losing roared back with a barrage of his own. After a shaky couple of rounds, Marcel re-asserted himself and finished the fight back on top, landing some telling blows on Arguello, who couldn't appear to figure out his foe, despite finding some limited success with aggresive tactics.

By the end, it was clear who the winner was. Marcel retained his title by out-boxing, out-fighting and out-punching a great fighter in Alexis Arguello, and he looked thoroughly magnificent in the process. What a fight and what a performance from Ernesto Marcel. It was such a pleasure to watch this fight, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Really happy I watched it :happy:deal

:happy Marcel was a f'n sublime operator! The fact that it's him who impresses most, in a bout with as bona fide a P4P ATG as you can find, says it all for how skillful an operator this man was.

I knew you'd appreciate it; the Encyclopedia does good...again :D

In the Sanchez fight, Gomez shifted from the perfect punch picking boxer to an overly aggressive bomber. Be it Sal Sanchez was so much better it changed him for ever, or he truly fell in love with his power at just the wrong time, but post-Sanchez, Bazooka Gomez turned into a gifted slugger.

Pintor is the peak of that madness. Pintor was ace, but Gomez of a few years before would've given us a far less entertaining fight ;-)

WHAT A FINISH THOUGH!!! Gomez could still really put it together when he had his man hurt.
