    DelaHoya - Vargas

    Really good fight. Incredible how Vargas came out in the 9th after the beating he took in the 8th. Foreman on the HBO commentary has completely bizarre, constant digs at Mayweather Sr for no particular reason. I thought Oscar fought a good fight for the most part, breaking Vargas down with the jab and then later with body shots.

    Pac V Marg one for the sadists. Pac landed 411 power shots. Margs embarassed Cotto with his performance. Lot of heart. Pac still looked hit able and was against another basic fighter.

    DeGale V Groves Very tough to score the first 8 rounds. Then Chunky took over and went for his shots. Had it DeGale by 2. Groves got lucky with that style that night imo as soon as DeGale put pressure on he folded.

    Devon Alexander V Bradley close fight alexander throwing and landing more. Bradley had one shot all night an overhand right and devon couldn't find an answer to it. He was coming on stronger when the headbutts came.

    Pascal V Hopkins I. Pascal is overrated and still dropped Hopkins hard. Won first 3 rounds and 12th. Fair decision. Hopkins really relaxed second half of the fight havn't seen him fight like that in years. Knew Pascal had limited technique.

    I don't think he dropped Hopkins 'hard' at all.

    Humberto Gonzalez Vs Saman Sorjaturong

    Chiquita: 1; 3; 5(+1); 6 (+1);
    Sorjaturong: 2(+1); 4;

    At time of stoppage: Chiquita 57-54 Saman

    Chiquita, as always, just too open to the right hand. Gutsy performance from the Thai. Never bothered to score it before, but Chiquita has a couple of good rounds, wings his punches too much and gets caught too often. Good scrap though, as I'm sure you all probably know.

    From light fly to full fly.

    In the early 80s, Flyweight lineage went crazy! It changed hands x3 in '82, x2 in '83, and x3 in '84, when Sot Chitalada grabbed hold of the WBC and brought some stability to the top of the division (a few years later Fidel Bassa would stake a good claim as well) Antonio Avelar, arguably the hardest punching Fly of all time, sparked Shoji Oguma, a brilliant Flyweight champion, when the Jap' stupidly engaged the tough hombre from Guadalajara. Avelar was then absolutely decimated inside a round by Colombian dangerman Prudencio Cardona (deffo' worth a visit to youtube to watch!!! SERIOUSLY!) Cardona lost his title to the good Freddy Castillo, and three months later he was stopped by hot-and-cold Olympian Eloncio Mercedes, who was then beat (on cuts) to British-Maltese CHARLIE MAGRI!

    But then Magri quickly lost to decent, but unspectacular Filipino Frank Cerdeno (not seen the fight so can't comment, but it seems to have been a stoppage of some sort EDIT: I have this fight, so I'll watch that tonight) Which brings me to

    Frank Cerdeno Vs Koji Kobayashi

    As you can see above, I watched Kobayashi battering Thai enigmaa Vibonchai yesterday, and today he wins in two rounds again. Against a big gangly fly in Vibonchai at super fly he looked big, at Fly, he looks huge. Kobayashi is a fairly sloppy, gangly southpaw with a massive reach, but when he gets going he doesn't stop. After a cagey, jabbing start from both, Kobayashi lets his straight left go and it buzzes the Champ. 3 knockdowns follow, and whilst Cerdeno gets his licks in, he gets overwhelmed and bludgeoned against the ropes. Good call from the Ref' for letting him carry on 3 times but knowing exactly when enough was enough.

    Kobayashi definitely seems a snotty nosed bully in the ring. Bernal sparked him afterwards I believe, before his trilogy with Chitalada (I only have one of the fights though)

    Next up is Kobayashi Vs Kazuo Katsuma, who I think I've seen once before (against Jiro Watanabe) but not certain if it's him or not. This is Kobayashi post-title loss, so will be interesting to see how he gets on.

    Just enjoyed this fight when I first watched it, with more knowledge and appreciation of both, this time round it was even more enjoyable.

    Fidel Bassa Vs Dave McAuley I

    BASSA: 1(+1); 7; 8; 10; 11; 12;
    MCAULEY: 2; 3(+1); 4; 5; 6; 9(+2)

    Always a great fight to watch this, but never scored it before. After 12, I had it Bassa 111-113 McAuley, but it should've been 110-113. Bassa goes down loads of times in this fight, and twice his legs just give out on him.
    McAuley puts in a brave effort here, in a really gruelling fight.
    McAuley should've had two knockdowns in the 3rd. Bassa, truly, on ***** street...although the first punch really didn't seem to land!!!
    6th round: Bassa really looks to be back in his groove and BANG short counter left hook from McAuley rocks him straight down to his knees. Not ruled a knockdown...again :-( Bassa, as always, comes back hard, but I'll give this a 10-9 to McAuley. He landed the more authoritive shots, and deserved a knockdown.
    Round 9: Just...amazing round. McAuley has Bassa down heavily twice, with a big left hook, and then a short right hook. Bassa recovers really well and tries to bomb back, but the Northern Irishman is brilliant here.
    Bassa gets into his groove as we enter the Championship rounds, and really lays it on. Exhausted, and under a heavy barrage, McAuley slumps to the mat. Great fight.

    Bassa KO13 McAuley

    Watch Watanabe Vs Poonterat 1&2 instead :yep The Kazua fight, IIRC!!!!! Was Jiro looking very good indeed.

    The Famechon fight is Saldivars last hurrah. Well worth a watch as well, especially as Famechon is also an ace fighter :good

    Miguel Canto Vs Chan-Hee Park I

    CANTO: 1; 5; 9; 14;
    PARK: 2; 3; 4; 6; 7; 8; 10; 11; 12; 13; 15

    Canto 139-146 Park

    Park, 9-0-1 going in with the best Flyweight of the time, is a sensation here. The talented Korean Olympian outboxes, outfights, and manouver the great 'El Maestro' throughout, pressurising him effectively, countering his jab, for ****s sake he counters Cantos counters and does the better work throughout.

    I'd like to see their 2nd fight, which was a draw apparently. I'll have to look into that. Hard to see Canto figuring Park out, he had no answer to him here and was thoroughly outclassed. Unbelieveable.

    I can vaguely remember that fight, Webb could hardly stand and he still took Arron to a decision.
