The 'what fights did you watch today?' thread

  1. I think Maidana has the power edge over Matthysse too, and I agree if Maidana throws heavy shots from the opening bell Alexander will soon loose heart and its Maidanas for the taking, buuuut im not so sure about the extra 7lbs we shall see.

  2. I think Maidana is pretty tight at 10st.

He's probably a harder puncher than Matthysse but he's not in the same league in terms of skills, Devon isn't the hardest to hit and is going to have to put himself in harm's way to take rounds on aggression/workrate against a fighter like Maidana.

Urango apparently wasnt up for the fight at all, though. And I heard this before the fight.

If you remember I called a stoppage, albeit corner retirement.

A day well spent- except I hit the booze instead of the bag.
Off the top of my head I can't think of a fighter who I've enjoyed seeing more in the last decade. Slick and stylish whilst brawling and dirty, aggressive with fantastic technique whilst also vulnerable, body attack guaranteed.
Zoro style moustache and beard (raging homo).:D

That uppercut that dropped Urango was pure class from Alexander. But his skills are shown nowhere near enough. I'd fancy Maidana over him easily right now but wouldn't be all that shocked to see Devon get another "win"

    Alexander flaws.

    - He telegraphs and tips off his punches.

    - Fall shorts too often and hits air.

    - Poor timing.

    - Poor defensive base.

His biggest problem is he's a programmed fight who can't throw curve balls at you. What i mean by that is, he looks the same fighter from round 1, that he looks late in the fight, in terms of his attack. You watch one round of Alexander and you've seen every round of Alexander. He's not very imaginative with his attacks. When you lose form like he does you can't put maximum effort into everything, which he does and leads to loss of posture. This reason makes his head fall over his knees to far and brings his elbows out. When fighters lose form their flaws get magnified and Devons flaws are magnified then most. Like using a HUGE magnifying glass on a not so small object.

That would be a really good fight. I'd take Lucas as he's more rounded and has underrated skills. A better straighter body puncher.

    Jorge Castro-John David Jackson 1

Terrific end to this fight as Castro, badly shaken up, lands a perfectly timed counter right hand to drop Jackson heavily. Shockingly Jackson is allowed to continue before being knocked out:good

I love that fight. Crazy, crazy turnaround. It's mental how one punch can change a fight like that....

It was a left hand. Not to be a stickler. He missed with the swinging right, and crossed back over with the left.

  11. I think he'd be a fairly strong underdog too.

It would definitely be a ''lump on'' time for me.

I'm still smarting over the £50 that the judges cost me when he ''lost'' to Alexander. 9/4 I had, the £112 profit would have been nice.

    Julian Letterlough-Julio Cesar Gonzalez

Both guys came in undefeated and just went to war. Teddy Atlas started off by saying that although Letterlough could bang he had an iffy chin and just as he said that boom! down Julian went in the first .

Letterlough might have being limited technically but he had great heart, grit and power knocking down Gonzalez three times over the twelve rounds. Gonzalez scored that early knockdown and one late on and for the majority of the fight the two guys just stood toe-to-toe slugging it out.

Teddy kept lamenting how Gonzalez could really make things easy by boxing from the outside but luckily for us he didn't. Gonzalez's cornerman was a dead ringer for Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid

The fight's on youtube and if you haven't already I recommend you watch it :good

Ishy, I may be wrong here because I'm on my iPod and can't see the vid, but believe it or not I think the guy you're referring to is actually related to Mr.Miyagi.
