No, not really mate, because he was fighting top class opposition, and getting results, in his first ten fights! He run the gauntlet in arguably the most stacked 175lb division in history and came out on top against most of the best until Qawi. A solid run as the no.1 in the division.

Of course, when he fell eventually it was brutal, and he ended his career on a horrible run. But he did enough for the bulk of it to have had a remarkable career IMO. Just a shame it all went so wrong for him after his career ended.

That era of super featherweights gave me three or four of the greatest and maddest fights I've ever seen. If you haven't seen Boza Edwards, Limon, Boza-Chacon 1&2 and Boza-Navarette I implore you to a) watch them now b) read my Encyclopedia entry on them and see loads of classics ;-) :tong

If you have seen those fights you'll love 'em already, but I think they'd be right up your street mate :good

I havent seen them yet but I'll get on them, got a list the size of my arm to watch and trying to watch as many classics whilst still keeping up with modern stuff, luckily (or unluckily, whichever way you look at it) I'm on the rock n roll at the minute so plenty time to watch boxing.

Fair point, didnt even think about his early career tbh. Fighting world class fighters from the word go and cramming in 8 world title fights after was some achievement. I was thinking that because his run as the best in the division ended at the young age of 27, his prime had a premature end. But I suppose fighting world class fighters in you early 20's will eventually take its toll on any fighter, regardless of how young a fighter is.

I promise you man, they're the stuff of legend. On a par with anything else on that list, magical stuff ;-) :good

Yep, and with his style??? :yikes

If you haven't already, check out his fight with Lotti Mwale: a true picture perfect finish against a very good contender indeed.

    Duran v Leonard 1
Not the best fight ive seen.Terrible commentary by the boring + biased Howard Cossell.
Leonard missed so many punches, but showed how tough he really was.
The italian judge had 10 rounds even????

    147-141 Duran

Have the super fetherweight lot instead, you'll thank me Luke I promise!

  10. I've not watched the Barrera vs Morales series in ages though!

I think I'll watch those three, and the first two fights of each of the Pac/Morales and Marquez trilogies.

Then I'll go for.... the first two Leonard vs Duran fights, both Hearns fights, then Hagler vs Hearns and Duran.... maybe if I've got two minutes spare I'll watch the Hearns vs Duran 'fight' too.

That's still a great watch though. To see even Duran realise he isn't going to have any answers but take his beating like a man.

He didn't stand up to Tommy's blows anywhere near as good as Muangsurin :hey (admittedly Tommy peaked physically at 154, but still)

Kelvin Seabrooks vs Orlando Canizalez I

Oh man, what a joy Canizalez is to watch. Such a tidy offensive fighter, has more or less every punch in the book and puts them all together to throw great combinations. And the way he seamlessly switches from body to head...beautiful. So effective and creating angles as well with his slight movements to either side.

First fight I've watched of his but I'll deffo be checking out more.
