Nigel Benn-Michael Watson: I forgot what an incredible fight this was and what a top performance it was by Watson.. Also watched 3 Bob Foster fights against Allen Thomas, Dick Tiger and Frankie DePaula, the guys power at LHW was just insane
I watched JMM vs Casamayor. A wonderful technical boxing match that I frequently re-watch. Some other thoughts: First things last, I thought the stoppage was correct in this context, but had it come earlier in the fight I think they should have let Casa try and make it through the last 15 seconds of the round. Although because it came in the 11th, on the back of a probable 10-7 round which handed JMM the fight, there was really no point letting it carry on. People in the GF were trying to tell me this fight was a good example of someone being outboxed. Frankly, I can't think of a worse example. It was a very close fight, Casa lost his way for about 3 rounds in the middle after the cut, but arguabley swept the early rounds and was, again, arguabley winning the 11th when the fight was stopped. A good example of someone being outboxed: Lewis-Tua. A bad example: JMM-Casamayor. I don't think Casa at age 38 is shot, just badly faded. The biggest issue that I see is in the legs. His movement is about 40% what it used to be. And there are some stamina issues, he takes too many rounds off these days. That aside, he landed the left so many times, which is quite extraordinary against an opponent of JMM's quality. Casa's handspeed is still good, his chin is still good (despite the stoppage, he took some real bombs). I personally still think Casa could pick up another world title, although he certainly isn't the figher he once was. Despite remaining one of the best counter punchers in the game. The fact that his legs have gone means he isn't nearly as elusive as he once was. It was odd to see Casa coming forward and intitiating the action. The US commentrary of the fight was excllent, best I've heard. Really strong analysis of the fight from a technical perspective.
