Did senior grab a proper belt ?
I thought he was WBO champion at 160 and 168, and that's it. The WBO was a joke at the time in almost every division.

Yes, he did have some very good fights (namely Benn and Watson, a couple of others).

Sr stayed loyal to the WBO and never fought any of the top American fighters, he kept well away from them.

What is the IBO again the last time I heard of the organization it was when Manny won it. If we aren't counting it for Eubank Jr does that mean Manny is really a 7 time world champion. In the interest of being unbias

Just sticking to the Eubank formula: if you're not great, be notorious. That strategy made his dad the fortune he's since frittered away...

An excellent post and observation. But how many of these fighters talk up their IBO reign? Or did they, I suspect, develop a sudden case of amnesia once they picked up a legit belt or were already in possession of one? The IBO doesn't seem to be taken serious despite that stellar role call of names you have reproduced...

How many of the above great fighters held the IBO belt on it's own? Or fought just for the IBO belt?

Great fighters have held it alongside other alphabet titles as it often finds its way into a lineal collection of belts. But on it's own it ain't worth **** and winning it off a 12-1 fighter makes it even worse.

in truth , precious few were notable for solely IBO work, mainly for work outside ibo.

This is a very salient point and i wished you'd never said it as i now have inner conflict as to whether he is a 7 or 8 division champion

    Yeah, Benn won the WBC.

I think Benn, Eubank, Watson were tough and excellent boxers but were never really top-tier in their day. Benn came closest when he beat McClellan, but he was at best a clear #2 behind Roy Jones Jr. and was never the same again anyway.
Watson's challenge to McCallum illustrated the gulf in class between the Brit gang and a true top-tier middleweight of the era.
