The whole Mayweather Khan via Vargas thing...

Saw Vargas take apart Ernesto Zavala in 6 rounds last year. Zavela was game as hell and made a decent fight of it at times but Vargas was just on another level to him. But at that stage Vargas was certainly there to be hit, he'll have want to have improved his defence immensely if they're serious about a fight with Khan.

Incidently while watching that card I observed Gary Russel jnr was the stand out fighter on it, you really got the impression of 'wow, this kids gonna be World Class'. Impressive stuff when you consider Frankie Gomez and Jamie Kavanagh were also fighting, as well as Vargas.

Vargas has got a tough fight in front of him this weekend with Joseito Lopez. The winner would deservedly be closing in a World title shot. Lopez has put some good wins together and is #8 WBC, #3 WBA, #4 IBF, #15 WBO. Vargas is unraked by all but with a growing reputation and a good win like Lopez behind him, he wouldn't be far away. I expect Vargas to come through this looking pretty good, but it being a tough gruelling fight along the way. Vargas clear UD.
