No surprise. There was a huge disparity in reach. And in boxing, if you can not clearly compete with your opponent in jabbing, you abandon it and go for something else.

Williams threw a total of 1083 punches and landed 243 (22% connect rate) against Margo's total thrown of 571 and 155 landed over the 12 rounder ( 27 % connect rate). but there are other unofficial numbers that consider that PW threw 1200 plus ( more than 100 per round - for example, PW landed 22 out of 101 round 6 and AM reached his higher water level mark with 17 out of 44 - thru round 7, Williams connected 116 out of 357 (32%) and Tony 81 out of 288 (28%))

    Per round - round 1: PW - 21 out of 114, AM - 4 out of 42
    round 2: PW - threw 106 punches
    round 4: PW - 20 out of 104, AM - 12 out of 40
round 5: THRU 5 rounds, PW - 102 out of 498 (AVR 99 per round), AM 47 out of 202
    round 6: PW - 22 out 101, AM - 17 out of 44
    round 7: PW - 28 out of 99, AM - 23 out of 63
    round 8: PW - 30 out of 104, AM - 21 out of 58
    round 10:THRU 10 Rounds, PW - 203 out of 1083 (22%), AM - 145 out 524 (28%)
    round 11: PW - 14 out of 61 , AM - 17 out of 66

That was a strange fight. Even though Margo lost he didn't really go down too much in my estimation. He just fought a bigger, stronger version of himself.

How come Margo fought a stronger man than himself if only PW admitted to get stunned in the post fight interview - he was supposed to mop the floor with Margarito but was the only guy to retreat, get a mouse under one eye and a cut above the other, and he had to win that 12th round still like he said he knew he had to... There was just two options for this fight in my book - Margarito would hit him hard enough and the fight wouldn't go the distance or it would go the distance and Margarito would never be able to outland this guy, not the way he fought Clottey. Of course Margo just goes down in the estimation of those who are expecting him to get out of the way... At least, PW put him out of his way by fighting him - now, does that make me a Margarito fan or anybody's hater? No, it doesn't... Nobody wants to fight PW now, not cuz he beat Walter Matthysse or Sharmba Mitchell or fought on the undercard of PBF-Hoya... Nobody wants PW cuz he beat Margo with that style of his ( exception taken to guys that are not going anywhere like Indio Quintana with all due respect to his fans). Most know they will not do any better than Margarito did.

All welterweights should definitely stay away from Williams, he's a freak. 6ft 1, massive reach, massive punch output and able to fight on the inside as well.

He's the best in the division for me....Mayweather would give him a run for his money though.

Williams is only 6'1" officially. Unofficially and probably more accurately he is at least 6'3". He has the height and reach of a good sized heavyweight so it's going to be very tough to overcome those physical advantages with your typical welterweight.

Matchups being what they are, I think Williams would outwork Mayweather -- the jab is key -- but Cotto would stop Paul by busting him up to the body.

Cotto doesn't hit much harder to the body than Margarito does so if PW was able to take those... George Peterson couldn't believe Paul would become a boxer cuz he didn't have a muscle on his thin wire-frame body once but now he makes up for it with that lanky, rangy figure and the polished boxing skills combined with speed, turnin, slidin, slippin punches and firing back that freakish punch output - Williams would win 9 rounds to 3 or 10 rounds to 2 against Cotto, always at the end of his jab and left counter, exploring angles and coming from all sites to tag Miguel's face.

Dead wrong. Cotto is a good boxer with great timing. Paul Williams is lanky and he is clumsy and falls in a whole lot. Cotto would have a right hand waiting for him. PW can jab all he wants but he would eventually want to fight with Cotto b/c he is the shorter guy. Cotto would lose some early rounds but get to him eventually. You cant compare a Cotto to a one dimensional guy like Margarito. Cotto has speed himself.

Wrong again, my friend Toopretty. Cotto has only proved to have speed n timing on the fast counter-move against Shane who is 5'9'' tall - much shorter and much less mobile than 6'1'' plus Williams. There is an evident differential in speed between 6 footer PW and 5'7'' tall Miguel Cotto but there is no indication that Williams would want to trade with Cotto in a fight that would mean two ww titles at stake. Margarito is one dimensional alright but I can compare him with a false versatile boxer-puncher/true slugger Cotto - like a Margo-Cotto fight would be crude stalker against disciplined boxer - no way José. Cotto doesn't do better than Margarito against Williams and that doesn't have to do with speed, ability or intelligence. Margo is bigger and I would dare to say equally as strong as Cotto. I take this opportunity to apologise for previous misunderstandings.

I disagree. Margarito was befuddled at getting beaten at his own game, in part because he seemed to regard Williams lightly, whereas Cotto is a more economical fighter. Also, in my opinion, Miguel has better timing than Margarito.

Williams can be hurt and was by Antonio, and if Cotto had more success early, he could get Paul out of there.
