It's late and I'm more or less with the spirit of the thread, so I'll keep this short. Winky was a favorite of mine before he quit fighting at regular intervals.

Sam Soliman isn't a power puncher. He swamped Winky with goofy shots from weird angles, and did surprisingly well. Williams is more orthodox by far than Soliman, but his build allows him to wing shots from surprising places. One example being the uppercut from outside that bothered Margarito considerably early in their fight.

Bernard pushed him around because he had a natural size advantage, and because whenever Bernard can make a fight gritty, he will.

Winky's workrate has tailed off in recent years. If it hadn't, he'd have beaten Taylor decisively and given Bernard a sterner challenge. If the layoff has rejuvenated him the way he claims it has, maybe he gets closer to his prime workrate, which I agree, was impressive. But we won't have that answer until the bell rings.

Mosley is more talented that Williams, but he's also a head shorter, throws mainly single power shots, and sees his effectiveness drop when he fights above 147. Shane hasn't beaten anyone at 154 that I don't think Williams could beat also, and that includes the version of Oscar that Shane beat on EPO.

Now, all that said, war Winky. :smoke

 

I wish Winky lots of luck. If there is anything left of him he will beat Williams.

the man has lost two fights in the last, what, 10 years? One to Vargas (close fight) and then another almost 8 years later against Hopkins at a weight Winky had no business at. The man is a great boxer and I hope he comes back and prove it against williams.
