The Salita fight would have been a good one at MSG.

Unfortunately Salita's team wanted some unreasonable clauses.

well that is true ,but i think he seems to have been over looked a lot of the time by the board.i mean look at some of the recent challengers ,i think willie would fit in with them quite well ...just my oopnion though

Gary Buckland deserves a shot before Limmond. He won an eliminator agaisnt Henry Castle in July. Buckland before that had beaten Craig Docherty and Martin Watson, and Castle was coming of KO wins over Graham Earl, Lee Cook and Ryan Barret (who Limmond went 12 rounds with)

He may have been over looked but it doesn't chage the face that he has not beaten anyone inside the top 10 at Lightweight in Britain in his career.

If Limmond beats a top 10 british lightweight he should 100% become mandatory for the belt.

Agree 100%. Some of the challengers for the British title (and British fighters for Commonwealth titlists) have been rubbish, quite frankly.

    Stuart Elwell
    Billy Boyle

No disrespect intended but who had they beaten in their respective weight classes to earn their shots?

One could argue that Limond hasn't beaten anybody of note for a while, but surely that would be churlish.... he is probably in the 'who needs him?' club now, which is a shame.

IMO the board need to have a rankings system and impose more stringent rules on mandatory challengers, and basically ban voluntaries.

I still can not think of one thing that makes Limond title worthy.

    Boyle was for the Commonwealth.

The board do need to introduce a rankings system with regular mandatorys. Banning voluntaries is a bit far. If you have to fight at least 2 mandatorys a year, and you can have as many voluntaries as you like around that as long as its agaisnt a top 10 fighter.

If Limmond beat one off Gary Buckland, Henry Castle, John Watson, Scott Lawton, Craig Doherty, John Fewkes then he deserves a shot, until then he is no mroe deserving than Boyle or Ellwell were.

mezallan you obviously dont rate limond mate,i will tell you how good he is,hes only been beat by 2 world champions, gave amir khan his hardest fight so far (except brescott),hes been in the top 5 or 6 for over 2 years and never been given any title chances ,imo he would beat anyone in britain at lightweight, talking about fairness mazallan i dont think anyones been fair to willie regarding title chances he could fight any light weight in europe and have a chance.

Nah I really rate him. I am one of those guys that thought he won Khan and should have gone onto to more success. I think he could do a number on well just about every lightweight in Britain and can not think of too many round Europe that would fancy chances with him.

Limond vs Murray would be great.
Limond vs Thaxton would be very interesting.
Limond vs the other lost European lightweight Romanov would be a wow fight.
Limond vs MetofficeFrenchkid would be a routine win.

But more likely is that Limond will defend his WBU belt against afrobum or a top 40 British lightweight and see his career out on lucrative title defences instead of taking a risk.

Fair enough Limond needed a long rest after the Khan fight but he has done nothing of any sort in the time he has been back active.

I wish him all the best but saying he should just jump into a domestic title fight is a joke. Limond needs to work his way into contention and like I said he needs another good fight before he even thinks of fighting the loser of Thaxton vs Murray.

As you should, you say the same thing about every fighter you train.

I do not doubt his ability, and neither does Mazallan. It doesn't matter who he has lost to, there are no decent wins on Willies record. Buckland, Castle, Watson and other all have. You also have Arthur and Rees who have won world titles in other weights.

Personally I think willie beats all lightweights in england except Arthur but he actually needs to fight top domestic lightweights to proove it.

I think the reason Limmond gives for fighting for the WBU is that he has not been given the opportunity to fight for the british title.

but quite right he needs to beat a top 10 lightweight before he gets a title shot.

Why people do not rate Mezzache i will never understand. The guy is a warior.

Mazzache has talent but I think he is not upto beating Murray or Limond. Good chmpion though.

I know he has not been given an opportunity but he should force the situation and make the board consider him as a mandatory. Another win and he could be getting there but he needs to step up from Barret and face a top 10 lightweight.

Murray should be looking at winning the Euro belt and then fighting some world contenders after this. This should be his last fight at domestic level.

I have said the same before and got slated by most of the forum. When I voiced unhappiness as Limmond fighting for the WBU not many backed me. It was a joke
