After 1800 votes and three months, we have crowned our first ever Heavyweight head-to-head champion.

By a dominant decision of 59/41 over Lennox Lewis, your winner and champion is:

    Muhammad Ali

Even though he was not the #1 seed, or even the #2 seed, once the voting was underway, he quickly stomped through the tournament, destroying Jim Jeffries by a MASSIVE 93/7 margin, then dominating Tyson, Vitali and Lewis by no less than a 59%/41% margin throughout.

Second place goes to Lennox Lewis, who fought valiantly to the bitter end, cutting the lead from 63% to 59% the last three days of the competition before finally succumbing to Ali's speed.

Honourable mention goes to George Foreman, who came THIS CLOSE to making the finals, being ahead by a single vote with five minutes to go until Lewis got a last second vote to tie it up and win the tiebreaker.

Finally, credit goes to Larry Holmes for making an epic comeback against the game and extremely formidable Wlad Klitschko, down from 45/55 to edging him 50.1/49.9 on the final day of voting.

But most importantly, thanks to everybody who participated and made this a bigger success than I was anticipating. Sometimes this board ignore anything novel or new and prefer to perpetually argue the same two or three topics over and over. It would have been easy for this tournament to get lost in the endless threads about Floyd/Pacquiao or the pro/anti-Eastern European and American threads. I'm glad that didn't happen.

I'm hoping to launch a Middleweight H2H tournament soon, which I feel will be even more successful. There's greater potential for shock results, since it lacks a universally-recognized GOAT at that weight. I think we'll see some interesting matches here.

    Thanks again for participating!

This and Vitali was the only problem with the tournament. But I understand thats the voters fault and not yours

    Ali. of course.

I'm pleased that Holmes finally got past Klitschko, even if it was close. Klitschko better than Holmes? That really bothered me.

Middleweight should be good. I'd like to see a welter and a lightweight tournament, too. Any plans for that?

I think Ali and Louis should have been in the finals, but it is what it is. Nice job with the contest, hopefully there will be others coming.

I might do a lightweight. A welterweight tournament is unlikely just because I can't see any outcome other than Robinson winning. I guess you could have said the same thing about Ali and the heavyweights, but I thought it might turn out differently after seeing Ali with only the #3 seed.

Rather than doing the greatest welterweights of all time, do an interesting tournament covering the past 20 years or so. Maybe without including May, Pac, Leonard, Hearns and Duran. Would be quite interesting

Yeah, I think something like that could work. Let's see how the middleweights go next. I think I've gotten a lot of good contributions, I just haven't had the time to collate them and create seeds. Hopefully this weekend, because I'd like to get it started.

But we know Monzon, Hagler or SRR will win it. Better off doing the middleweights not ranked in the all time top 10. Just my 2 cents :thumbsup

I'm OK with there being three favourites, because it is unclear which of those three will ultimately take it. This will be a fun one, especially depending on how the seedings shake out. For example, it is conceivable that Leonard can get in, but at a low enough seeding that Hagler actually draws him in the first round. Imagine what could happen then!

God, I've got to start working on that soon.

I'm open to that. 24 hour sudden death playoff? What do you suggest?

Either Klitschko would knock Holmes out and they would beat Ali, by TKO or KO. It's just common sense. Henry Cooper, a little guy, had Ali out on his feet, so Angelo cut Ali's glove to keep him from getting knocked out. Leon Spinks beat Ali, etc., this is fantasy land..............
